I hate to be conspiracy brained on this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it came out that Nico pushed Kid to play Kyrie more, to "supposedly" make the playoffs. This injury is way to convenient for him. (yes, it is convenient, this team wasn't going to win and anybody who believes it was is delusional)

This injury doesn't let Nico off the hook, his decision making contributed to it.

Stop crying y'all. Losing Kyrie is good for defense.
By the way his work ethic is sooo questionable (to put it mildly), just ask the Cavs, Celtics and Nets.

So we are very persistent here, great!

Was thinking the same thing. He can clearly point out that Mavs weren't winning without the trade either.

I don't think Nico wanted this outcome but I also think he's probably dodged a bullet here.

No, his reasoning was that they have more chances to win now and next few years, with this injury he has lost this year and next year. It's basically over. He won't win anything with main players being old between 34-37 years, all injury prone and 1 returning after main injury. He lost the gamble and he knows it. The pressure on him will just grow, it's only question of time, when he's gone. The only thing that can save is lottery luck, odds being very low.

I don't think so. He will definitely say oh we made the right move for the team but we will never know because of this injury but we all knew this trade could have a down side like this when you pair two injury pron players in their 30s. If they still have Luka you still have that long run way, now without him it just derails everything the franchase was originally setup for the next 10 years.

Fans aren't dumb, don't let this dumbass off the hook

Mavs should blow up the entire organization. The curse of the Luka trade strikes hard. Their entire future is finished.

Brutal for him as well being in a contract year at his age. He was looking to get one last big payday coming off that Finals run last year he seemingly turned this around after leaving Brooklyn. Now I'm not sure if they will pay him or not.

The truth is that this is a 2 years injury, most players need almost a full season to recover and trust his leg again, and that player will never be 100% of what he was pre-injury, that's just the reality.

It's sad but we might have seen the last of Kyrie's peak

This does clarify things for Dallas. Now they can start the full rebuild. They don't have to sell it to Luka or the fans.

Not sure if it's true, but I read they are trying to move the team anyways. So lack of team support would help their case.

some people have so much money they buy something just to cut tax bill. Preferably a big something with a nice, stable profit margin due to let's say a massive 11 year media rights deal. The Adelsons are more likely to learn Japanese than respond to unhappy fans.

Let's see what the next media deal looks like. There's a bubble and it's coming.

Ratings are in the gutter and streaming isn't going to change that.

Why are people saying minutes affected this? Did you all actually look at the play that it happened?

I said this and next year and yes season 26/27 was never realistic with those grandpas, after the injury even less off course.

Mavs should just trade AD, Klay, PJ and Gafford it would be the best for Mavs and players. They need picks for rebuilding, Nico killed this version of Mavs.

I can't think of a worse month for any team in sports history, aside from the team leaving town entirely. Gut wrenching. Trade Nico to the Lakers, and you might get Luka back.

Its almost as shocking as Zion being injury prone at 300 lbs.

And it was 100% self-inflicted.

It's not even just the Luka trade. They wouldn't need to be relying on an old, broken down Kyrie now if they didn't give up on a 25 year-old Jalen Brunson.

it's not as if lightning struck twice, this is cause and effect

since they traded a generational player in his prime for day-to-Davis and the latter exerted himself so much in the first half of the first game that he injured himself, Kyrie has led the league in mins. I haven't checked it out myself but Bill Simmons said on his pod that in the last 6 weeks, Kyrie played the most mins in the league with a whopping 38.7 mpg and it's not like Kyrie is very durable not to mention, he's not a spring chicken anymore..

Nico Harrison with the biggest brain-fart in modern sports history

I can only compare it to how occasionally when ur stoned (or high) you get a ridicilous idea that ur sure is like the best idea, out-of-the box, paradigm breaking idea you've ever had but then u wake up the next day and realize how ridicilous it was

dude must have been high to make that deal..

Kyrie is better than Brunson as a running mate for Luka imo but with that said, Brunson was always going to NY

maybe if they had given him a chance sooner and not made him a bench player for so long, things could have gone differently but at the summer of his FA, his mind was already set and obviously something funky was going on with his dad NY connection (paid under the table, perhaps?)

Well he will the offseason to get Durant.

In 2018, Kyrie said that he, Davis and Durant had a dream to play on the same team. All 3 had deals with Nike likely through Nico at that time.

Part of me thinks this has been in the world a long time and won't just stop now because of injuries this season. In fact a tanking Mavs gets them a better pick to entice Suns to trade Durant to them.
