Should that pass at 2:59 be an assist? To me, not really, but just a reminder that everyone is getting those kinds of assists.

White made a move towards the basket immediately and scored after the pass from Giddey. Now, all of his other assists were things like lob, dump off, catch and shoot type stuff. Maybe the scorekeeper was trying to get him that triple double and gave him more leeway on that last one

about the only unassailable stat is counting the ball going though the hoop.

everyone has a bias and in that context all assists count because all assists get the same treatment in all cities. the only way i see an unbalanced perspective on assists is if a team's crew sticks to the letter of the law when all the other teams don't,,,in which case the pg of that team is really screwed. or if a crew is blatantly outlandish

but that doesn't happen

what has to happen is basketball(for EVERYTHING) is create hard rules with no subjectivity. like isn't there a "clear path" rule about assists? that's a problem
