I didn't think they had the balls. Who else is gonna milk that kind of success out of that meh roster?

Memphis fans hated on Jenkins cause he didn't play his stars enough lol. Going from a guy that plays his starters too much to a guy that plays his bench too much.

This is insanely reactionary. Except of course, if the players privately went to Rose and said get this guy outta here.

I actually think Thibodeau achieved a lot of success in terms of results versus expectations throughout his 5 year tenure with New York. With that said his formula of over-playing his starters throughout the regular season and playoffs was destined to have negative repercussions sooner rather than later imo so if they can replace him with a quality coach who can manage personnel better I think it can be an improvement.

One of our posters speculated that Thibs started making lineups adjustments (Shamet/Wright) in the Pacers series due to management pressures.

Whether that's true or not, management went out and got those guys for him this year and he refused to use them until the situation or management themselves forced his hand. That's... gonna piss 'em off especially since both players clearly helped when we started to use them. That's ticket out of town material.

If the Knicks hadn't had those 2 comebacks and lost to Boston (ideally without Tatum getting hurt) Does Thibs still get fired? Because they weren't expected to beat the Celtics, and he did beat them. So if they lose in 6 and never get to the third round, maybe he keeps his job?

This forum is hilarious to me.

You guys spend most of the time trashing Thibs, his rotations, his minutes distribution, etc, then he gets fired and you all act like he's an amazing head coach.

Hire him for your team if you think he'll win you a title.

The guy is a good coach and works hard but he has limitations that will never get him over the hump. Look at his resume. It speaks for itself. Just because he took a team that was going nowhere and made them respectable doesn't mean the team needs to be married to this dude forever.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Yea I don’t understand this one. It was a disappointing loss to the Pacers, but still a fantastic season.

Let's go, Thibs was a floor raiser not a ceiling raiser. He had a cap on his potential with this team. Knicks need a coach with a good offensive scheme to make up for their defensive short comings of their stars.

Well, the next Coach is allready under maximum pressure. The team liked Thibs and he got them more success than maybe their last 10 coaches combined. Maybe it was the right move and they are going to the finals next year, but the grass ain't allways greener. I remember the Pacers firing Nate McMillan (thank god) and hired this young innovative coach Nate Bjorkgren and everybody thought the Pacers will finally play fresh basketball - but it was a total disaster in every aspect and everybody was happy when they finally fired him midseason. So let's see who they bring in - I just gotta say I'm not sure if Malone is the answer.

It's really hilarious. He's a defensive minded coach who team played mid defense, and also ran one of most basic and primitive offense in the league. Omg how could he possibly get fired?!

That’s also a ticket for ruining relationships with agents and their clients who probably had some indication their players would have a role when they sign that never materialized.

Im guessing they have to have somebody already.

Mike Malone makes the most sense to me.

Probably still has a job if the Knicks didn't boow game 1.

At the same time, I am not surprised at all, Bill Simmons had said Thibs was on the hot seat going into these playoffs.

Deserves a lot of credit for changing the Knicks mediocre culture and getting them back to respectability but I think the time is right for a change

Imo they should go for a young fresh first time coach with no previous baggage (like Malone or Jenkins)

Sam Cassell is a sure fire bet if they want a coach who is a winner and has a great rapport with young players and vets alike

You betcha. We already heard that neither player would return next year. Who else will come? You've got 7 guys? What use am I?
