Quick question didn't you say Simons would not be traded and Portland was loyal to it's players?

Can you show me a quote where I said this, particularly in relation to Simons?

There's zero fact to back this comment up. All indications from anyone close to the team is the Blazers have never seriously considered moving Simons.

The only time the Blazers considered moving him was pre the 2023 draft when they were "supposedly" looking to make a major trade to appease Dame Lillard before the trade demand. Outside of that, there's never been any serious rumblings that Cronin is looking to move Simons.

There was even a full team report from the Blazers beat writer that Cronin has been in contact with Simons to check if he wants to be moved, but Simons says he doesn't right now and Cronin therefore hasn't been shopping him. So yeah.... there's no evidence that comment is remotely true and plenty of evidence straight from the mouths of the GM and Simons that the opposite is.

Not wanting Simons or others is fine, but no need to make stuff up about it. It's fine to stick to reports and known facts.

I think you did change your tune but Simons being traded should have been a given once Scoot was drafted.

What you claimed I said and the quote you just provided don’t align, but whatever (nothing to do with Blazers being loyal and signing players like you initially made up).

I still stand by that quote, there was zero indication from the local media and sources the Blazers were gonna trade Simons.

EPM had Simons in the 160s in terms of impact and Jrue around 90. If people think the trade is being won from Boston on player impact... no. But clearing Jrue's contract is a necessary casualty because of the apron and Tatum's injury. Might have even needed to happen without that. And getting Simons/picks is a good haul for that.

The only reasonable explanation is Portland is going to tank and win one of those sweet, sweet 2026 guys like A.J. or Booze 2.

Because the league said we got you, we know you're up for sale.

I'm kidding, kind of.

The fix is in guys, BOS is tanking this season and will "miraculously" be rewarded with the 1st pick in 2026 selecting AJ Dybantsa!

The Lakers/Boston dynasty battle lives on!

When is the last time that happened?

I think the trade 2 years ago was win-win. Blazers had no business keeping Jrue while tanking. They got Brogdon and 2 firsts (essentially traded for Deni) plus RWIII. Both teams do that trade again if given a re-do.

This trade, however, Blazers truly feels like they lost it.

With Boston clearly as everyone knows they are trying to cut salary and Simons is just a one year rental probably at most. This isn't a win now move for them and highly suspect they'll tank this season. Simon is a terrible defender but someone that can get you buckets and came make you seem like your still trying to compete when clearly your not. Again I post this before but just wait until we find out that Brown has so called side effect and issues with his recent surgery and missing parts of next season if not all of it.

Celtics goal I think is to clear the books as much as possible around Brown/Tatum and tank this year to free up cap space for '26 and hopefully land a top pick to add to the group.Going into '26 with a healthy and returning Brown/Tatum along side another all-star type caliber player they signing in '26 and possibly a top five pick and be right back in the title contending mix in the East.

Goal should be to clear the books around Tatum and White, and Pritchard. Brown's a declining player that can't really help an elite offense who's making $60MM/year.

How is Brown a declining player? Lmao

Yeah, I misspoke but it should have been obvious Simons was gone. You don't have your 3rd playing off the bench.

I don’t think anybody would rather Simons over Holiday.

I would have loved Holiday to have retired a Celtic.

However that extension became too much of a luxury the moment Tatum went down.

I still actually think Holiday has a fair bit left in the tank and am glad he didn’t go to a contender.

I'd say it's a good trade for the Celtics from a value standpoint. They move Jrue and his large contract for a young player and they get two 2nd round picks as well. That's a pretty good haul for Brad.

Jrue will be severely missed, though. What a great addition he'd been for the Celtics. He and KP were the missing pieces to form that championship core.

He's expensive, and he's relatively old, but he is no where near 'washed' can still defend anyone at the highest levels. He was injured before the playoffs this season and missed the start of the playoffs. He was the starting PG on what was probably the 2nd best team in the NBA this season.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

getting injured is one of the main parts of being washed. Bron and KD and Steph are still great when they are on the court, they just can't go more than two months without pulling a groin or a hamstring.

This legit feels like a 2K trade with the force trade option on.

Jrue’s biggest issue this season was busting his finger and it never being able to heal because of the timing of the season.

He had a mallet finger injury that typically needs a large number of weeks to heal and he was back fairly quickly and didn’t shoot or handle the ball well at all with it.

I wonder if people will keep that same energy when they criticized Milwaukee for trading Holiday for Dame.

Jrue is beloved around the league.

Billups probably sees him a 6th man that can get them to the playoffs.

Simons can be used in other trades for Boston or take the offensive load so they can rest their key guys during the season.

Portland is basically eating that last year because Jrue is so highly thought of. He can help them the next 2 seasons.

This doesn't look that lopsided as Portland values character guys who play defense as Simons is basically Jordon Poole and expendable despite youth.

This is an identity trade for the Blazers. They're going to be one of the tougher defensive teams in the league next season and they're going to win games off of that identity. They're still not a great team but Simons was standing in the way of what Billups is trying to do there. Blazers were a substantial net negative with him on the court. They lose some offense with Holiday but maybe gain some cohesion.

Still think they're silly for giving draft capital. Sounds like they approached Boston with the idea and were treating Simons as a liability.

Only read the first page. Like everybody there I'm utterly confused with this trade.
