I thought he would have been somewhere else since this may not be permanent as the Knicks may want to sign Diawara & others past this season

This does take care of a toughness problem, he and Alvarado puts hair on this Knicks teams chest. Looks like they want to offset the KAT issue and pick up a few enforcers so they're ready for rough and tough competition.

Good depth piece as we look to go for it all this season.

I think it allows us to give OG some rest down the stretch.

Kat issue? He wasn't an issue versus Detroit in the Playoffs....

This version of Sochan is still in there somewhere.

Anyway, as I've said before, we pushed other non PGs into primary ball handling/O initiating duties to good effect for their overall game.

Sochan had a clearly defined role this season, per Mitch. So he either wouldn't or couldn't do it. Both sides move on.

How would you assess Sochan as a playmaker? The idea of him was a sort of "Dimes and Defense" athlete, and the Spurs giving him some PG reps pumped some hope into that concept. A strong, playmaking 4 next to Wemby made sense in theory, but when they went all in on athletic guards with mediocre jumpers, it felt like even the idea of Sochan didn't fit into any lineups.

If there was a team that needed a tough defender to could playmake (or be a connective passer), do you think he could fill that role? I can see the Heat, Wolves, Knicks, Nuggets, Bucks, Hornets, Clippers, and Hawks having use for a player like that, but is Sochan capable of being that player?

He is not a playmaker at all imo

Yeah playmaker is stretching it. He apparently played some 1 at Baylor and I think Pop wanted to get him to see the court/plays beyond his role with the short lived experiment. He finds cutters well enough and can make some skip passes but does get tunnel vision like with end of Q heaves or over dribbling when he should pass ahead. It's tough to buy in when you need to stand out with your next contract looming.

Also, the 3s and handles looked improved in summer practice videos but opponents didn't buy it and he wad left open at the arc as the desired option to take a 3.

Apparently he has a 7' wingspan. Got blocked an awful lot. Just a lot of fundamentals that need instilling and we were no longer at a slow project development timeline.

Very solid defender. Likes to muck it up. Should add some sandpaper and wiseass hate to play against that guy element to the Knicks.

Wish him the best. Something tells me his heart has always been with more of a spotlight city and team so hopefully he adjusts and contributes well.

Love this piece. Our main weakness this season is we could stand to be a little more chippy. Whelp. Went out and got Grand Theft Alvarado and Sochan.

Lol you Knicks fans always gotta get a dig in. I'm talking about the fact that your team could use a few tough enforcers, and that's exactly what you got.

Shocker wonder if RealGM will bitch about the large markets signing all the free agents as much as they bitch about small markets tanking????

Generally of course a great pick up, but again another proof how pointless the whole draft & salary system is.

Looks like I called it. And yes, I/we realize that this is not prime Draymond Green we're picking up. Sochan is tough, though, and wants to defend--not true of a lot of players in today's NBA. This season, whenever OG and/or Mitch sit, we have had a toughness problem (that becomes apparent especially when we play teams like Detroit...). Does Sochan completely solve this problem? No...but he'll at least scrap, foul hard, grab an offensive rebound (and/or an opponent's jersey) or two, and he comes very, very cheap.

Fingers crossed that he helps us.
RIP magnumt--you're literally why I'm still here on these boards.

Good pickup. I wanted the Lakers to sign him but unfortunately their roster is full.

This is why when I complained about Bronny being signed, I would just roll my eyes when people said "BuT iTs JuSt A 55tH pIcK, wHaT's ThE bIg DeAl???"

This is the big deal. It eats up a roster spot that could be used on a better player who fills a need.

Hope the Knicks win the east.

He isn't that good but he is a fine addition for our bench. I am happy.

It's a pretty public opinion that the Kat trade made the Knicks core softer I thought? Didn't think I was throwing shots
