Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

were the lakers a deserving play off team last year after that schooling by phoenix?

Borderline but since they won at least one game and were the 7th seed I would say yea.

the lesson as always, the nba needs to cut down on playoff teams. 8 is too much, 6 would be perfect

Then you would have a team with a bye round.

We shall see how far they get this year, especially since this season's Lebron is better then last season's Lebron. Basketball is a team game. I rather have 3 championships as a major contributor and closer (because we all seen Phil Jackson sit Shaq at the end of games due to is lack of free throw capabilities) then "lead" a team to the finals and get swept.

Very true. It seems like to many ppl here, leading a mediocre team to the playoffs is more important and impressive than winning actual championships.

I dont think that carries more weight than 1 championship as option 2 and 2 championships as option 1B

why does everyone always say this? We were underdogs in the new jersey. No one even wanted to give us a shot in the pistons series and they told the cavs to get the fishing gear ready after game two.

on couple posessions Lebron defended kobe pretty well..

Kobe is still number one but lebron will take the crown in 1-2 years..

Lebron uses his big body pretty good the guy is very strong..

thats the thing, there was no torch ...theres like 4 players the past 3 seasons that could be considered the best in the league (Duncan, Kobe, Lebron, Wade). Maybe even throw KG in there.

Nobodys holding a "torch" like Jordan in the 90s..

No, you were only underdogs in the Detroit series, like anyone in the league besides Dallas, Phx, and San Antionio.

this is how I view the best players in the NBA..this is just my opinion though..

2000: Shaq
2001: Shaq..Duncan/Iverson
2002: Shaq..Duncan/Kidd
2003: Duncan..KG/McGrady
2004: Garnett..Duncan/Shaq
2005: Duncan..Shaq/Nash(weak year)
2006: Wade..Kobe/Nash
2007: Duncan..Kobe/Lebron
2008 so far in the reg. season: Lebron..Kobe

so I believe Kobe's only had the #1 player title for STRETCHES at certain times during the years..I don't believe he's been the #1 at the end of any of these years though..my opinion..

2000: Shaq - head and shoulders above the rest
2001: Shaq #2 Iverson
2002: Shaq #2 Kidd
2003: Duncan #2 Garnett
2004: Garnett #2 Duncan
2005: Nash #2 Duncan
2006: Kobe #2 Wade
2007: Kobe #2 Lebron
2008: Lebron barring injury #2 Kobe

+1

IMO, in order to carry the torch, you have to be the best for 2+ seasons... You can make a case for 5+ people being the best for different periods over the last few years so no one has carried the torch for a while now.....

How were you underdogs vs New Jersey??

Cleveland finished with 50 wins, NJN finished with 41.... And NJN didnt have Kristic who was averaging 16 and 7 on 52% during the season...

Cavs were definitely the underdog vs Detroit, but the fact still remains that you only beat one good team

QFT.

Now if this is about wing players then it is a different story.

B-Scott wrote:Kobe was only getting the edge in my opinion because of reputation. When it comes to on the court and who has been playing at a higher level over the last 2 years,it's Lebron. He has also gotten the better of the Head to Head matchups. Cavs are 5-0 against the Lakers, the last 5 games.

Lebron is just more gifted because he's 6-8 245 pounds with the speed of a WR. This allows him to get inside the paint with more consistency then Kobe and that helps the Cavs in close games. Kobe relies a lot more on jump shots.

Lebron is also in my opinion on the same level,if not a better defender then Kobe. He's bigger, stronger, longer, more athletic and when he locks in on you on D your not getting by him. And shooting guards and small forwards are not going to post him up because he's 245

Excellent post B-Scott.

That was a great game Sunday. The torch was officially passed in the final minutes when LeBron shut Kobe down on several plays and then hit the iso jumper in Kobe's face.
