Totally agreed. Most PTS/100 possessions, since 1973-1974 when per possession began being tracked, (Min 10000 MP):

1. Embiid: 41.4
2. Jordan: 40.4
3. Doncic: 39.3
4. Durant: 37.1
5. LeBron: 36.7
6. Trae Young: 36.0
7. Kobe: 35.8
8. Harden: 35.3
9. Gervin: 35.3
10. Shaq: 35.2

Bookies already starting to have Jokic at "-110 to -118" to win MVP.
Very clear favourite now.

Its Jokic

then Embiid

then everyone else

Third year in a row! Jokic actually has a solid lead though when the last two were razors edge most of the time

"Voters will look to do anything to not give it to Jokic this year we know this. But it’s past the point of it being a Derrick Rose style win. The guys had arguably the best 3 season stretch of any player all time. "

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

do we know this? No one is really bringing voter fatigue up as a negative and Jokic keeps winning every accolade while being on track for an unprecedented third straight MVP without any playoff success. The guys bringing it up like Zach Lowe and Bill Simmons bring it up to say it doesnt matter! Where are the complaints coming from?

It is actually Embiid they wont give literally anything. Best Center in the league 5 years ago... give all nba to Anthony Davis when he legit says every month he doesnt play center and literally doesnt for half his plays.

Razors edge with Jokic the next 3 years all go to Jokic for all nba and no one bends the rules for him for all-nba

2nd in DPOY voting but also 2nd team all defense. Yet in many years before and after this decision theyve put as many as 4 centers on the 2 all-defense teams. Not for embiid, hes never been first team all-d a single time, just like never being all-nba first team a single time.

All star voting this year seems to be following a similar trend although less important i think its just funny to bring up. Its front court and not defined positions!

Everything that can go against embiid seems to have happened and everything that can go for him doesnt matter. To a comical degree. Complaining about Jokic not being respected enough is tonedeaf

I'm not mad at you for not being super impressed with Tatum last night. It wasn't one of his best games. Shots weren't falling and he had some bad turnovers.

Since the Finals there's been a thing where he really struggles vs GSW and the C's haven't been able to beat them. I think it's accurate to say they guard him better than any other team. They really get up in his grill and crowd him to take away the 3 and force him to drive, then when he drives they send tons of help at the rim from unusual places while also clogging up his passing lanes. They're very precise and disciplined in their gameplan. And Wiggins is a tailor-made defender to put on him in rare instances where it's just single converage. And over time it seems like it got in his head and his struggles kinda multiplied.

Last night was actually his best game vs them in a while, but not a game that's going to blow you away if you're seeing him for the first time. Still it showed a lot of growth on his part. A couple season ago that might have been an 8 point game from him and a big fat loss. But now a not-very-impressive game from him is 34/19/6/3 and a win. As Celtics fans we'll take it haha.

Ok.....again to reiterate- the reining MVP is reining....

2-7 is a preference thing....good argument for each of the guys (plus Steph) being number 2

8-15 is a week by week thing

Sounds like a salty Embiid fan who wants to just hand him awards he doesn’t deserve.

Embiid has been unlucky in the sense that he keeps meeting one better in all of those aspects. It’s like saying let’s give the scoring title to a player who averages 30ppg instead of one who averages 32ppg just because he hasn’t gotten any awards and we need to share around the awards like a kids league.

Unfortunately when you miss 10-15+ games on your competitors every season it’s always going to be tough to beat them in awards, especially if you’re behind them before even factoring in missed games.

On your points though, Jokic has been playing with nowhere even close to a playoff team cast since getting Murray and MPJ back this year. And with them back he has them as the no.1 seed in the West. You’re looking so arbitrarily at a point of needing playoff success when he’s missing half of his roster in playoffs. Embiid has none either with a far better roster, so if you’re going to make that point you’d at least hope the other candidate you’re campaigning for has that as a point on his side you can look to.

You’re then looking back to a single all nba centre position 5 years ago as a reason for Embiid being looked against. It’s the only single point in your post that is even arguable. That’s the one where he definitely should have gotten all nba first team and the mistake that is genuinely wrong. He played more games than AD and genuinely did deserve that first team selection.

He wasn’t razors edge with Jokic the next 3 seasons. Jokic was clearly better and Embiid missed the following:
2020: 30% of games missed.
2021: 38% of games missed.
2021: 17% of games missed.

You’re never going to win awards missing 30+% of the season if you’re neck and neck or still behind without when factoring that in.

There’s no argument at all for 2020 or 2021 when he wasn’t as good and missed 34% of games in that span. No one, not even MJ would win awards missing that amount of games.

Then you look at 2022, Jokic played in more wins with a lottery team level roster while Embiid had Harden, Maxey, Harris and still couldn’t win as many games in the games they played.

Jokic also broke the all time PER record ( higher than MJ, Lebron, Bird etc.) and averaged 27/14/8 on elite efficiency. He’s also never missed more than 10% of any season he’s played. There was no argument here for Embiid.

Can you show me where they’ve put 4 centres across these 2 teams? There hasn’t been a single season in the last 20 where’s there’s been 2 pure Centres in the all nba first team. AD is a PF or at worst a PF/C that could be argued into either position. Embiid has never played a single second as a PF so you can’t just magically change his position to include him as a forward when he doesn’t ever play there. There’s often many wing forwards that miss out on all nba defensive first team that are better than the guards but that’s not unlucky it’s just the fact you need 2 guards, 2 forwards and 1 centre. If you split positions at times it can be argued as to where you go in these awards which has helped AD get lucky in a few ‘C’ All Nba teams when he plays 80% of his time at PF. Embiid plays 0% PF and 100% C so unfortunately for him like Gobert, like Jokic, like Jarrett Allen, he’s never going to be eligible for any forward awards or positions.

He simply has to play more games AND be better than the best Centre’s which he hasn’t been in any award at all except for the all nba first team 5 years ago.

He’s never been MVP because he’s never deserved it in any single year. His seasons would have in other years but he faced better competition. He’s unlucky on his timing but so are many players who don’t get given consolidation awards just for being good at the detriment of someone better who has already won awards.

Gobert’s been better defensively and Jokic has been better overall. There’s no injustices just unfortunate with timing.

That’s before even factoring in he’s missing 15+ games most seasons which is a huge issue and always has been for nearly all players in all awards, especially if there’s players better than you anyway.

It’s very simple, stop complaining about everything going against someone and actually look at maybe being better than the other players for a start and then secondly actually staying on the court.

Not really because there's still a large percentage of talking heads and others that don't even think he's one of the best two players of the league when all players are healthy. Heck, I bet some of these same talking heads currently would say on-air that they wouldn't take Jokic over this current version of Lebron or KD. And there are still some who will take Embiid over Jokic cause they always cite Embiid's defense over Jokic. When Davis is healthy and playing they continually say he's better than Jokic. It wouldn't surprise me if they start lobbying harder for Tatum and Morant too over Jokic. In my opinion the reason that they're forced to acknowledge Jokic at all is the same reason they had to acknowledge Duncan(who they also felt wasn't a star): he's that damn good.

As far as Embiid he probably has been unlucky the past two years for the MVP vote. '21 he didn't play enough games compared to Jokic and '22 he was penalized cause Harden was on the team. If the Sixers don't get Harden last year I think the voters would've clearly gone with Embiid.

Not sure what you're talking about, last two years were definitely a razor's edge. 2 years ago, Embiid was the betting odds favorite at the all star break, then he went down with an injury. Last year he was leading the straw poll at All star break, then Zach Lowe freaked out and got his podcast buddies to vote Jokic, who's in 6th. They decided on the MVP based on 3 losses after the AS break, 1 to the Nuggets, 1 to the Nets and 1 to the Celtics.

The double standards continue with Luka having his team in 5th, but somehow that's not enough, because Jokic is in 1st now, even though Embiid was in 1st 2 years ago. Every year they make reasons why no one else can win it, but then when Jokic does it it's fine. LOL

It’s very simple, stop complaining about everything going against someone and actually look at maybe being better than the other players for a start and then secondly actually staying on the court.

LOL

Or….They just award it to the best, most deserving player.

Which they have and hopefully do again this season when it’s clear who the best player is after 82 games.

If Jokic misses 30% of the season this year of course he won’t win MVP. Would be crazy to think he should, as it was in 2021 for Embiid missing 30% of the regular season with other as worthy candidates.

do we know this?

That was not the case how many times are we going to do this, lol. Jokic had a better season than Embiid in both seasons. Last year they were both within 3 games of each other. Jokic played with less help. Jokic deserved to win both of his MVPs you crying about wont change anything. He also having a better season this season. You can say Embiid is unlucky playing in the same era with Jokic. Nothing wrong with being the second best center of his era.

You don't deserve the MVP for 6th seed. Especially when the competition played a career high in games.

Goal posts are always moved for Joker. If he wins this year he'll go down as the only 3 peat MVP winner who has not won a chip.

Embiid and Luka definitely deserve to be MVP this year. But neither are having a better year than Jokic. That's pretty black and white, it's not even really all that subjective this year. It's nothing those two (and Tatum) are doing wrong, Jokic is just existing at the same time that they are. Somehow, against all logic, he keeps getting better.

-Stats blow everyone else out of the water
-Nuggets almost have the best record in the NBA
-He hardly ever misses games

Any other pick would be a travesty. It's not because there aren't other deserving candidates. Jokic has just been better.

Sixers won three whole more games than the Nuggets last year. LOL. Embiid had Maxey and Harden. Jokic had Bones (not even hyperbole, Bones was probably Denver's second best player last year). What he was able to do with that carcass of a roster was absolutely MVP worthy. He, single-handedly, won 48 games LOL. He was the absolute textbook definition of an MVP.

People arguing against Jokic are grasping at straws, because there is no logical argument to be made.

I get it, if he wasn't on my favorite team I'd probably be tired of him dominating too. But he is, and he is.

Yup all of this haha. Outside of games missed, Embiid is no doubt having an MVP worthy season. Ridiculous raw stats, ridiculous impact stats. Ive been saying this about Tatum as well and ya Luka as well. If Jokic didnt exist and one of these 3 won it, ya you could kind of poke a hole in it. Embiid (missed games), Luka (team wins), Tatum (some advanced numbers not there). But overall you could look back at if they have won people wouldnt point to this season as a prime example of a guy that didnt deserve MVP. You wouldnt bat an eye. They're all playing MVP level basketball and putting together a legit MVP worthy resume.

Jokic is just being stupid though haha. I mean 2 games ago he put up a 36 point triple double with a 98 TS% haha. And it was his 3rd triple double with a TS% of at least 90 this year. That is just flat out stupid, I really cant think of a better way to describe it haha. The dude only has 1 game where he shot below 50%. Everyone else are putting up MVP seasons, Jokic is putting up a video game season.

Protip:

When arguing with horse poop eaters about last year's MVP, remind them that Jokic won more games than Embiid and IIRC had a better winning % too. Literally, if you delete games missed by Jokic and Embiid, respectively, then Denver had an unambiguously better record than Philly.

Don't let the horse poop eaters fool you with their lies.

But here's the thing. Even with Embiid playing a career high in games, Jokic still won more games. Embiid played in 45 wins last year. Jokic played in 46 wins. Does Embiid really get a huge boost because his team won more games without him than Denver did without Jokic?

I mean you guys will find any stat to give a reason for why Jokic deserves it. Even it's one measly game.

Explain why Luka isn't the front runner right now, when he's put up godly career high stats, and has the Mavs in playoff contention. His roster is worse than the Nuggets this year. Jokic got that benefit last year, why doesn't Luka this year?
