Jokic last 20 games in 33mpg:
23/13/11 on 68/50/83% shooting splits and an incredible 74% true shooting percent. He shoots 13 times a game in this span, and the team is 17-3 in that span and has outscored opponents by 183 in that span.

Most Triple Doubles in a season by a Center:

1. Wilt (1967): 31
2. Jokic (2023): 25
3. Wilt (1967): 22
4. Jokic (2022): 19
5. Jokic (2021): 16
6. Jokic (2020): 13
7. Jokic (2019): 12
8. Jokic (2018): 10
9. Wilt (1966): 9
T9: Sabonis (2021): 9
10. Sabonis (2023): 7

Yes, assists were harder to get in the 60's because of different assist rules, but, Wilt did this in ~46 MPG, Jokic is doing it in 33-34 MPG.

And, of course, we don't have official blocks for Wilt's era, in total fairness. I once went through 136 game wrapups that had Wilt's blocks counted. He averaged 8.75 blocks per game, and eclipsed 10 blocks a game 53 times in those 136 games. (38.9%).

There's also this data:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tTIVEWsAP14/VkFK-IE7GHI/AAAAAAAAHSo/n_u04_ScpoQ/s0-Ic42/Wilt%252520blocked%252520shots.jpg

In this sample, it looks as if Wilt had 40 10+ block Triple Doubles in the 112 games listed. (35.7%).

Wilt played 1205 career games. If this data holds for his career, he'd have 400+ Triple Doubles with blocks counted!!!

My only thing is Jokic is just not doing anything to lose his lead. 18/18/10 on elite efficiency (scoring and facilitating) over the 2nd seed in the West.

This is where I'm at. I said it over a month ago and I'm sticking by it, that it's hard to proclaim an MVP 50-60% into a season. Especially when you have guys playing historically great basketball. It also makes the regular season compelling, especially if you're a fan of said players who are in the running.

GeorgeSears wrote:The national Jokic-for-MVP discourse is getting borderline embarrassing. I just watched a clip of Richard Jefferson, who is actually a solid commentator imo, criticizing Jokic for not getting enough "hockey assists." The heart of the criticism is that Jokic is hogging assists from his teammates - the players on the floor are just there to receive assists from Jokic.

The great news is that there will be no more Nuggets games on ESPN for the rest of the regular season.

Jefferson called the game last night on ESPN.

If Giannis makes the comeback and wins the award, I'm ok with that. I'm a huge Giannis fan.

I think, for now, Jokic deserves the award but Giannis is coming on strong.

I can't see anyone else besides those two winning the award. At least not right now.

I remember last years game with Milwaukee in Philly. Giannis had the famous block on Embiid.

well, at least now the Embiid fanboys might be forced to recognize that Embiid isn't actually playing elite defense consistently

he does when he feels like it, is focused enough (seems like he has attention span issue, keeps dozing off a-la WB)
and isn't still lying on the ground from his latest offensive flop

that's why the 76ers keep losing tough games despite having incredible talent - Embiid is way too incosistent and takes alot of plays off on the defensive end this season (but never fails to find his focus when he's got the ball, imagine that :P)

Giannis is playing on the team that is loaded with the defensive minded players which helps him a lot, he has as many blocks as Jokic for the season average.

Is this implying that without Holiday or Lopez he wouldn't be as great a defender?

Blocks? are we gonna do a Hassan Widesie discussion this year as well ?

Giannis is still #1 even without brook at the rim, in fact Giannis makes anyone he defends shooting worse on average by 7% ( anywhere on the court)

People shoot 16% against Giannis at the rim...

There is a reason why Bucks are way ahead in defense.

There are multiple individual metrics that showcases Giannis as the best defender in the league much less on the Bucks

I find it hilarious anyone trying to downplay Giannis defense when he has been elite anchor since 2016 at the age of 20

Milwaukee defense wouldn't be good without all defensive pieces they have this season .

If Giannis defended like Jokic it wouldn't work at all, the defensive anchor can't be a liability or you're just always going to be bad defensively. You can't hide the 5.

Ya there is no way to cut it, Giannis is an elite defender. Just because Milwaukee has multiple elite defenders doesn’t take away the fact Giannis is still elite.
