Meh… really mediocre game so far
Redeemed himself somewhat down the stretch, but yeah would have liked for him to have more assists

The nuggets two losses was on a game winner and overtime. They’ve been great.

It's not a season where someone with big numbers on a 6-seed is winning MVP

Zion is a tough nugget to crack, his advanced stats are horrible, his scoring is down, but Pelicans having 5th best record in the league is a possibility and he's clearly the best player there, he's in similar boat with ANT in the 6-10 range.

Re: NBA MVP Discussion Thread 2023-24 (Part 4: MVP Thread's Revenge)
If the Mavs win 48 games and Luka go on a tear in the final stretch of the season, I think he will win it regardless of any advance stats against him. Kyrie missed 33% of the season and I'm not even sure who's the 3rd best player of the Mavs. This is the year Luka will win his first MVP.
On a side note, MVP thread isn't as intense when Embiid leading the MVP race, the moment he went down with injury and got disqualified, this thread has been calm except when some people are debating how important +/- is.

Team, please guard Luka not taking Kyrie's Ramadan dinner. Might be not used to eating during games today.
Very nice of Mavs to do so.

Last time Mavs fans proclaimed the team would go on a huge winning streak they ended up losing 5 out of 6 during a stretch mostly consisting of Eastern Conference opponents.
Luka will not go 11-2 and he is, therefore, not coming.
Whether they will avoid the play-in or not will probably depend on their upcoming Kings games on the road.
They are 0-2 against them this season thus far.

Jokic 35 and 16 on 14/22, Nuggets 12-2 since the break and half a game off the 1-seed. Why all the noise with Luka?
I get that people just want to create discussion but the Mavs are still eight games behind Denver, nine behind OKC and in the play-in. He's third at best right now.

There is zero chance Luka wins the MVP this year. The only categories he leads the league in are USG%, FGA, and turnovers. Just not going to get it done, especially when you have a couple guys so far ahead on positive metrics, while also having a sizeable gap in the standings. And I top of that, both have better narratives going for them as well.
I do respect the amount of effort Mavs fans have been making for him though. Maybe next year will finally be his year.

Fairly sure he leads the league in PPG.
Kind of an important stat, especially considering he's 3rd in assists, and posting 34PPG on 62TS%.

So why is it only translating to a play-in spot? No one doubts Luka's eyepopping box score numbers, but he is behind Jokic and SGA in pretty much every meaningful advanced statistic (quite significantly in some cases) and his team is eight games worse off.
You pretty much can't make an argument for him without criticising his team mates or coach, which is a good indicator you don't have a strong case otherwise. The Mavs are just too far behind in the standings and it's difficult seeing OKC and Denver both dropping enough games.
His best chance is getting into 4th, which is doable given how close the West is outside the top three (although the Clippers and Pelicans are both better). But this narrative that he's somehow closing the gap when SGA and Jokic keep winning is weird.

“It doesn’t matter how Luka is playing,” Exum said. “If he’s playing amazing, he’s going to get doubled. If he is playing bad, he’s going to get doubled. So, he’s always going to create opportunities for everyone to score and make the next play.” - takes 27 shots when he hits 6 of them. 2-11 from 3. Barely beating the Spurs with a Wemby off game. Not even close to Jokic..

Yes, let's judge a player by the worst shooting performance of his career, when he's leading the league in scoring on 107 TS+ while being the most double teamed player in the league by wide margin.

+- is a PART of the picture, not the whole picture, nor did I claim that. But go off, son, do your thing!
You claimed that both struggled similarly.Luka might not had his best game, but 37 points with better efficiency is still much better than 16 points with 16 shots.
About assists and +/-. Mavs role players were shooting 0/13 for 3, if they had normal shooting night, Luka's +/- and assist number would have been different. He had 15 potential assists.
+/- is unreliable stat even in bigger sample sizes. Talking about it in a single game is total nonsense.
I read how Nuggets are saying that they have lost because they had bad game. Maybe they should look at how bad shooting night Mavs had. I don't believe Mavs have won a game in last few years in which nobody outside Luka and Kyrie hit a 3.
I assume Luka's 6/27 shooting [22%] against a bottom 3 team in the league overshadows his great all around performance (16 ast, 10 reb), based on your logic in this post? Due to his abysmal shooting (even worse than Jokic vs. Mavs, but Jokic limited the damage by only taking 16 shots...not 27)...?
No, Luka was good, he was + 5. Unfortunately Kyrie had a disastrous game with - 10. But luckily Kleber with monstrous 5/1/4 and +27 saved Mavs.
I'm becoming a bigger believer in +/- every day.
P.s. It was Luka's the worst game of the season. Not because he couldn't hit anything, it happens, but because he didn't stop shooting. From the Mavs perspective, great win, they wasn't winning games like that in the past.

I don`t really mind him having an off game from the field, it`s just the fact that his stats are so inflated by his heliocentric volume, and the fact that he has 16 assists and yet takes 27 shots (6 more than Kyrie and NINETEEN more than the 3rd) while he is missing everything, surely there had to be some better shots he could create for others? This player is inflated, inflated stats and just heliocentric ugly basketball. And he can`t even get his body fat % down to make everything easier when he wants to play this me me me me style of basketball.
It`s ugly, I don`t care if he leads the NBA in everything, he is **** good but he has the ball ALL THE TIME, Jokic plays winning basketball, Luka plays me basketball and if we win it has to be by me, but I refuse to believe you can win a chip with this playstyle, at least not in the shape he is in.
Luka seems to be a complacent talent, and I don`t like that, so I will actively root against him until he starts looking at himself with a more open and critical mindset, he has all the tools to be an OMEGA-great all time NBA player, but he seems stubborn to me. I get the vibe that I don`t need to change anything because I am already great, you know? And that`s the wrong approach.

I'm sure Luka is reading you and is deeply concerned about you not liking him. Especially talking about how fat he's.
