Your floor is right, but your ceiling is slightly off. Josh's ceiling is Kawhi Leonard/Jimmy Butler, not Wiggins (no offense to T'Wolves fans).

I personally feel it's too early to comment on Wiggins ceiling, let alone Jackson's.

Draft PROJECTIONS are done primarily BEFORE they enter the league, not when they're well into it. Then you just have a STATEMENT not a PROJECTION. ;)

I know, I totally get that. I'm just saying that we still don't know what Wiggins' ceiling is given he's still so young. It's fair to say that someone like Butler has probably peaked and it's hard to envisage Leonard getting much better, but Wiggins is nowhere near the finished article.

I'm fine projecting players but putting a ceiling on a prospect is something I'm never comfortable with given we have very little idea about the mental elements and other variables that determine the eventual level of a player, especially if he's a one and done player. We also have no idea of what kind of circumstance the player will find himself in. For example, would Kawhi have developed to this level had he ended up somewhere like Orlando or Minnesota? Probably not.

For what it's worth, I like Jackson. I think he can develop into a really good player.

the thing that separates JJ from AW is motor.

I think Josh will be the better player out of the two based on this alone.

Before the 2014 draft Wiggins was projected to have Superstar potential. While he has not lived up to it, he's only 22.

Kawhi and Butler were not elite players at 22 either. Neither of them averaged 20 points before the age of 24.

That's why it's still too early to use Wiggins' ceiling as a benchmark for incoming rookies. It's comparing an unknown to another unknown.

Even though it won't happen, how amazing would it be to see the Celtics pick Ball at #1. The complete crap-storm that would create would be amazing.

Interesting one. Don't know much about Kurucs but an explosive back court with Anunoby a great multipositional defender and the upside of Giles.

I went with

Ntilikina
Kennard
Jackson
Isaac
Allen

Good size in backcourt and Ntilikina has the length to guard two's if needed, both hit over 41% from 3. Great defense at 3/4. Also could swap out Isaac and Allen for Tatum and Giles for more offense but Isaac could more easily defend 4s so that's the trade off.

He's got a lot more length and likely projects into a much better defender as well. Fultz will likely take longer to adjust though considering Lillard has 4 years of college under his belt and a lot more experience coming in.

especially when you consider that prime Iggy is a superior player to current Wiggins.

Do you have to take one from each column? Or just 2 guards/2 forwards and a C?

Because if I can, I'd go Fultz/Donovan/Ju.Jackson/Isaac/Giles. (5+2+3+4+1=15)

The tweet says two guards, two forwards and a center, so in therory your line up works.

Mine would be: Smith Jr.($3)-Monk($4)-Tatum($5)-J.Collins($2)-Giles($1)
The 2024 NBA Champions Boston Celtics depth chart:

Guards: Holiday, White, Pritchard
Wings: Tatum, Brown, Hauser
Bigs: Porzingis, Horford, Kornet

I like this team.

Collins at PF covers Giles at Center, and Monk doesn't have to worry about passing fulltime with DSJ there, and he can play off ball where he functions best.

You have 3 playmakers and Perimeter threats from 1-3 with DSJ, Monk, and Tatum.

Props!

No, he's right about the floor.

We've watched Jackson all year and prior on the Knicks board and Josh's floor is indeed Iggy. His off the court stuff and behavior may affect that, but there's no doubt from anyone who's watched him for a year or more, that he has a floor of Iggy

As I mentioned above tho, once he develops his offense, he moves into Butler and then Kawhi territory.

[EDIT: Also, Iggy was the 9th pick in his Draft (NINTH!!!) pick in his semi-deep Draft, so I wouldn't peg some "only a sure fire 1st overall" honors on him. ;)

--Mags

I just don't think anyone should be given the floor of someone who's been an all star and major contributor to a top tier championship caliber team. Anyone.

While I am a big fan of his game, there are some who are not.

Personally I think he can potentially be an Iguodala or better and Butler is a good comp for what he could become. I don't think Kawhi is though.

Kawhi's length/wingspan alone put him in a different stratosphere than these other guys and he has MVP potential, and may be the MVP favorite for the next 5-7 years.

I have a hard time saying MVP caliber about a prospect unless they absolutely dominate in college like Shaq or AD. KD and Blake dominated too. Jackson didn't really dominate and their team didn't get very far in the tourney, despite playing for a blue chip school. KD and Blake didn't get far but they played at UT and OU.

That's actually a VERY VERY bad way to go about things.

A good majority of Top 3 picks have not reached dominant territory (especially the #1). Using your philosophy, you'd have missed out on Kawhi (14), Butler (30), Iggy (9), and your very own Booker (who was taken late Lottery)!

I NEVER try to take into account a guy's Draft range for his projectability. It just would fail you EVERY time.

Just because Josh may go 3rd - 5th doesn't mean his floor can't be Iggy, as we have watched him so much we KNOW it can. Like I said above too, once he develops his offense more, he very well will enter Butler/Kawhi territory.

Josh Jackson *is* the best 2-way player in this Draft and the last few Drafts. Dude would've been the #1 pick past year was he eligible. It just goes to show you how deep this 2017 Draft really is, that a guy of his caliber might go 3rd to 5th (a steal for the Suns of they get him!).

--Mags

I don't mean to be rude but do you know what floor means? You're basically saying that the worst case scenario for this kid is being a all star and averaging 18-20 ppg in his prime while being a top wing defender. That makes zero sense. I like Jackson as well but his floor is much much lower than that.

It doesn't say you can't, so I don't know why not? The way it's set up it looks like that was the idea, but it's not stated, so I think that works.
