So much hyperbole in this statement it isn't even funny. He's shooting badly. He's still averaging 16.5/8.5 in SL.
Celtic fans have so much hate for Josh Jackson, it's unreal. Dude can't shoot after two SL games but is still filling the stat sheet. We will see what Tatum does when he has to defer to IT when the real season starts......
SL is for ball dominat scorers......duh!
in all fairness I never liked josh jackson, I think tatum will be the better player. But remember that Josh Jackson will be a starter, tatum will be coming of the bench behind hayward.
I don't hat Jackson, he has big upside and will also make plays that won't show up on the stat sheet. Maybe staying in anger management wouldn't have been a bad move however.

IMO Lonzo has the most upside of anyone in the draft. His passing ability at his age is insane and he has so much untapped athleticism because he doesn't know how to use it yet. He's a pass-first point guard and let that define him rather than using his athleticism. Once he gains weight/strength and learns how to use his speed/vertical he's going to be scary good. Of course he needs to hit his shot too. Potentially he can be really good though.
Dennis is good, but there are some things you can't ever learn and Dennis just doesn't have great feel. He's a scorer so it's alright, but what Lonzo does for his teammates is unmatched by anyone in the class and it is what really separates him from the pack for me.
At the same time I could see a small chance of Lonzo having a broken shot forever and if that's the case DSJ could be the better player soley because he would be more complete. I think they're both going to be really good though.
I'm super high on a lot of this class.

Oh God, you guys are gonna say this about every PG that has a decent summer league gamestop
I think they made the right choice with Ball (for them)
No, they didn't. Did you see DSJ tonight? He dominated again. These two are so dramatically different from a ceiling perspective it's like comparing PJ Brown to Kevin Garnett.
There games are completely different. 1st triple double in LV summer league history for Ball. DSJ looks like Marbury a bit, while Ball looks like Kidd, both in terms of ceiling. I'll take Kidd over marb any day of the week.

Tatum really has trouble getting past his man and driving to the rim.

Lonzo doesn't really do anything well other than pass. And, he isn't nearly as good a PnR passer as DSJ.

He doesn't look like Jason Kidd tho. People are really trying to put this kids point guard skills in a category they haven't reached yet

As the #2 pick, I'd say that Ball has the biggest chance of being a bust. Most of these other top prospects are the same age as him.

I respect your opinion a ton as a poster but what makes you think Lonzo has untapped athleticism? He def has a high vertical but he looks like Nick Young running around the court...just super awkward.
Lonzo can setup whoever he wants but to me that's a cop out. I want a PG who is a scoring threat.

I think 'untapped athleticism' is being too generous. Just as you argue he has an unteachable feel for the game, DSJ has unteachable athleticism, Lonzo will never come close to the borderline freak athlete that DSJ is/will be as he hits his athletic peak around 23-24. It really comes down to what is more valuable at PG in today's era, a guy with amazing court vision or a guy with amazing athleticism. I'm taking the latter all day, especially when there are legit NBA skills there to capitalize on it like DSJ has shown.
I like Lonzo a lot and think he's going to be a really uniquely impactful player but in today's era a PG's ability to shred teams off the dribble, collapse defenses with pure speed/quickness and score in bunches is really important. It's different if you have a plethora of talented players, but if you're putting a franchise on a guy's shoulders that stuff matters.

Look around top teams have volume scoring PGs than scoring deficient but assist rich PGs. Even Spurs plays with scoring PGs, last time they dont was Avery Johnson.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Once Lonzo learns how to finish at the rim, he will be impactful. I don't see his shot ever being more than below average. You cannot just be a pass first PG in this league anymore with no other skills.

I saw J Kidd his whole career from his pro am games at Kezar Pavilion, against the likes of Tim Hardaway,to Cal, and through his pro days and I see very little resemblance to Ball's game. They both pass the ball well and that's it. Kidd was such an intense competitor and imposed his will on his opponents while Ball has more smooth/laid back approach to his game. I don't get the comparison at all.

I think he's going to be Draymond-like as a PG, in that he'll be incredibly different for the position but he'll have as much impact as most 'traditional' stars at that position. Obviously there are stylistic differences (Draymond's defense, Lonzo's elite court vision, complete opposite personalities, etc.) but both are non-dominant scorers who won't carry a team but are amazing at gluing talented teams together.azcatz11 wrote:Prez wrote:doordoor123 wrote:IMO Lonzo has the most upside of anyone in the draft. Summer league doesn't have the spacing that NBA games have. In real games I bet he has a bit of an easier time. J Brown has been having the same issue.

If you're a top 10 lottery pick you're either declared a bust or a future star based on your SL performance, can't be average
.
Player does terrible in SL, "It's only SL, doesn't matter". Does well, "Future star here".

I was super disappointed when the Wolves/Bulls trade came through because I knew there was no chance we could trade up to get DSJ at that point. One freaking day the Hornets will hopefully get a star guard from North Carolina (CP3, Curry, Wall, and now DSJ).
That said I'm happy Malik Monk fell to us and Kemba is not half bad himself. Monk has more passing ability than he was able to show at Kentucky. Both Fox and Briscoe lack the ability to be effective off the ball, so Monk didn't get many opportunities to direct the offense. It was too bad we didn't get to see that during summer league.
That said Mavericks fans have to be really excited about Smith. I honestly can't remember the last time they drafted an elite talent in the lottery. They haven't been there often over the last 15 years (Dirk is the man) so I imagine it's been a looooong time.

It's a message board dude - everyone has hot takes and I don't see anything wrong with that. Otherwise every post would be the exact same post as yours and would be boring!
