His teams season just ended right before the draft btw. Unlike most of the players in the draft he hasn't been sitting on his ass since March
These scrubs are better than anything he faced in Europe . Him settings screens needs work as the video above shows ; he can work on thatno they aren't. Most of these scrubs wouldn't even make a team in Europe
That French league is like 7th best league outside of nba. G league teams would beat them. But that’s all irrelevant the point is wemby needs to work on things and he isn’t using the opportunity to do so.

they gave him a couple of games to please the crowd and the media and to give him a little feel for the American game
it's pointless as SL games are so different than what he's actually going to be doing
completely pointless to play him more, pretty standard imo
I think that was the plan all along, we've seen this done numerous times with high picks
Exactly. High picks usually play until they have a good game or 2 in SL then sit the rest of the time. We all saw what happened to Chet 2 summers ago.

Injuries can happen at any time. Sitting someone out doesn't make them any less injury prone. If SAS can't trust Wemby to stay healthy for 3 straight games, then they made the wrong pick.

it's not about a risk of injury that's just an added bonus (i.e the Chet example)
its' just pointless, he's better off practicing with their invidual coaches
they let him play a couple of games in low gear for the crowd, media and so that both he and the Spurs can get acclimated a little more. it's also good for the league and the SL, that he plays a couple of games like a notch in his belt - hey I played in summer league and hey - the #1 played in SL. makes no difference if it's 2 games or 3 or 4 or whatever
they saw what they needed, the direction is clear and there is no reason to play him he's got nothing to gain development wise by further playing in that enviornemnt. we've seen it plenty with high picks, avoiding a needless injury is just a bonus

No point in playing him. Especially if some scrub is going to injure him looking for clout

He will just play in pickup games if he's not playing in SL but I'm sure that's not an injury risk. He only has millions to gain in endorsements by playing and having productive games like he's had so far.Exp0sed wrote:Marvin Martian wrote:hardenASG13 wrote:

Scoot will most likely win ROTY.
Wemby will take some time to get use to the NBA.

You think he's losing endorsements by not playing SL? His stock couldn't be higher and if he's as good as expected he will be endorsed by whoever he chooses.

Re: Victor Wembanyama Mega-Thread - For all your Wembanyama needs!
For players who already have a roster spot secured SL is useless. At best it's just some added interest for those who are bored because they haven't played since April. But if all you gonna do is fight your teammates for the ball and then take it and go 1-1, which is what they do in SL, then you're better off doing it in a controlled environment with the team's trainers who are extremely careful to make sure nobody gets hurt.
The best thing for Wemby who is already exhausted both from basketball and from b!tchslapping* a former pop star, was to not play in SL at all. There's nothing in it for him. But the Spurs couldn't do that or they'd have to answer the "OMG IS HE INJURED" question 10 thousand times. So they showed him off a little, now take him back to the lab for service and tuning.
*I'm joking obviously. in case it needs to be said.

Not being able to play 3 straight games after your 50+ games season ended 3 weeks ago is a different story than playing 3 straight games after your 35 games season ended in March.

Ya and with his example that teams should sit star players in the first round of playoffs we saw what happened to Rose

It's not that they don't trust him to stay healthy. He has nothing left to prove in SL. This is standard practice.

I disagree with the decision to sit him out for multiple reasons. First, he needs all the experience he can get. Second, we as fans want to see what he brings to the table. There's so much hype around him, we lose out on seeing him for a few months.

So basically you think your desire to see him playing in meaningless exhibition games against scrubs is more important than whatever plan the Spurs have for him this offseason?

He's been playing basketball straight since last September. Had about 3 weeks off between his last game and SL.
Coming up is his first NBA season followed by summer Olympics in Paris.
Reps isn't the problem. Rest is.
Given the upcoming schedule, there will be plenty of chances to see Wemby play.

And those 3 weeks were not even rest as such, he had the draft night, he had to go to Nike (Oregon?), househunting in SA, media etc. The guy was exhausted in that first game especially, they did the right thing by him.

this kind of thinking is exactly what the Spurs are protecting him against, and why he and his family were so happy to be drafted by SA.
if he got drafted by charlotte, michael jordan would be dying to play him in some meaningless scrimmage and "put him in his place" like he has done with other young players.
These are the opinions of one lifelong Spurs fan, nothing more
