Really? Been Simmons missed a whole playoff series during the bubble.

How about no Murray and MPJ last season? He still got a game off the NBA champs.

How about no Murray the year before? He still made it to the second round against the NBA finalist suns. MPJ was only in his second season.

Embiid got swept in the first round with no Simmons with an average +\- of -13.5 per game.
As I said, good enough to win MVP, should be good enough for it to translate to the playoffs.

Well, if you’re runner up then similar expectations must be put on Embiid right?

Rudy Gobert had a 70% TS in 2019-20 averaging 15.1 points on 8.2 FGA

Jokic this year is posting a 70% TS% averaging 24.6 on 14.8 FGA (lowest or 2nd lowest since he became a star)

Giannis this year is posting 60% TS% averaging 31.3 on 20.7 FGA ( highest in his career)

Jokic efficiency rose while shooting 2.9 less shots on average compared to last year where he had 66%TS.

Compared to last year Jokic raw production fell hence why his efficiency rose.

This however doesn't make Jokic last year better because his raw production dropped but because a portion of it translated into him playmaking and passing more when his roster is much healthier.

This one of example on how taking advanced stats and especially TS% and trying to single it out but itself its either misleading because Jokic just shifted his game into different focus while dropping usage by 4 %, rebounding and raw scoring.

This is why when i see people freaking out about 70% TS it means absolutely nothing.

This is why when i see people saying that Giannis is having a down year is flat out wrong.

For the record, i do believe Jokic this year is better than last year.

Again context matters. The amount of shots and types matter. So throwing in Gobert’s ts is disingenuous. I expected you to discuss and debate in good faith. Just like you did with calling out plus minus stats

It seems you completely missed my point allow me to clarify.

Goberts numbers weren't to directly thrown in to compare him to Jokic it was to showcase why he isnt considered an elite offensive player despite having TS as high as 73 % because of his volume.

This is why i put FGA and even bolded because the production part matters a lot.

For Jokic i highlighted where the 4 % increase came from ( which is lower usage, rebounding on 3 less shots ), in fact i believe last year Jokic was better in terms of scoring because he had near playoff usage% on higher volume shooting and higher overall raw production. Shot selection here is irrelevant for explaining the rise in TS% for Jokic as its similar to his previous year.

This is also why i threw in Giannis as third explanation to showcase people saying him having a down year is wrong just because his TS dropped which is explained on his insane high usage and high volume.

My whole point is to give context on why people taking TS % as a gospel is simply is misleading without context .

Jokic reason of being a better player this year is not his 4% increase TS% but because he raised his playmaking/passing to higher level despite being already high. That his biggest case for the MVP and not his already highly efficient scoring.

Efficiency is part of why he is having a historical season is another factor in why he is the favorite. Also shooting 60 40 80 at over 24pts per game is rare indeed. So efficiency is a big factor to his historical season. At more than 4 fg percentage increase is significant. And while I am at it he is only shooting less than one less fg made pregame. So for him to shoot 3 less shots per game he is only making less .9 shot per game.

Stop making excuses for Embiid then. He’s consistently been in the running for MVP but can’t even make it out of the second round. Not even once!

Umm, one is about to win his 3rd MVP, the other hasn't. One had his star player have the greatest drop off in NBA history, the other hasn't. One has been constantly injured every playoffs of his career the other hasn't. One has Doc Rivers, the other doesn't. One had James Harden do his annual disappearing act, the other didn't. Want me to keep going? No, you get the point. Those are actual excuses.

The mental gymnastics are exhausting with you bro. Embiid has had far better and healthier teammates his whole career and it ain’t even close.

Yeah I am confused, so Embid should be excused for being an inferior player and therefore should win MVP :)

You guys don't seem to get it. There are levels. You win 3 MVPS you're held to a higher standard, as opposed to a 3 time runner up. Plenty of people have sucked in the playoffs and won 1 MVP. Playoffs and winning your first MVP, has no relevance, zero, zilch, nada. But when you're in the running for the 3rd, then you're basically in the running for top 15 all time in NBA history. For players who have won 3 in a row? All have won a championship.

Not that difficult guys. You accomplish more, you're expected to do more. That's the way the world works.

But you think Embiid should have at least 2, so if we go by your opinion, then Embiid has underachieved and needs to be better

Lol, I'm done responding to you. You can try and make it seem like your logic makes sense, but at this point, this is no longer a productive conversation.

The contest continues to narrow
Jokic 31/21/22
Luka & Oscar = 5 x 27/8/8
The Brodie = All-out energy
