Crazy as it sounds he's kind of been under the radar with the Chet hype. This dude might legit be a top 7 player in the league right now. OKC gets that #1 seed I think he can make a real push to upset Embiid for MVP.

Gotta be top 5 rn tbh

Lebron made it to the finals with that cleveland team.

Bird would have won 4 rings with that team, in this weak ass era of basketball.

Embiid has the stats and PER, thats' the crazy thing. Last year Jokic had PER, and all advanced stats. But this year Embiid has many of the advanced stats, and ridiculous raw stats.

Last season, PER was a non-issue as Embiid (31.69) and Jokic (31.78) were so close. This season Embiid is 34.9 and the next closest is 31.48. So, yes, the difference is significant enough to be taken into consideration.
True, good point.

Everybody else.

For the time being I still have Embiid ahead, but if he was to miss more time this month I could easily see SGA being the front runner

SGA is already the front runner IMO...

SGA
Embiid
Jokic
Giannis
Luka

Nobody is close to Embiid’s PER and his winning percentage (games in which he has played) is higher.

Per matters now lol. Not the last three years when you guys were making fun of “advanced stats”. This is absolutely hilarious and I am here for it lol

Embiid winning percentage is heavily skewed by his injured games, and PER favours bigs because of the rebounds...
I think the 2 are close, and in case they are close, SGA should win it (for that reason specifically I supported Embiid for MVP last year).

SGA has been incredible, but the efficiency with which Embiid is scoring, rebounding and passing has been otherworldly. On top of that he's playing great defense like SGA. Embiid is also still averaging more points than minutes per game.

If both of them are tied with records I'll go with Embiid. If you can average 34 ppg+ on 65% TS, you are in another stratosphere.

In addition to PER, Embiid's EPM is 11 and SGA is 10.3. SGA had an opportunity to retake that lead, and he wasn't able to over the last week, in a stat that SGA was leading for about a month. Shows you how incredible Embiid has been. And unlike PER, there isn't a heavy skew of rebounds for EPM.

Let's also not forget that he's put up these numbers while not playing the 4th quarter for 9 games. If he wanted he could have easily padded his stats and dropped 40-50 in most of those games, and had an insurmountable statistical lead.

You using efficiency and “advanced stats” is pure gold. Given the crap you posted the last three years. I love it!

I don't think Jokic is even close to sniffing the MVP award this year, but... for a 2x MVP he has to receive the worst whistle in NBA history lol.

This year vs last year:
17.8 FGA/GM vs 14.8 FGA/GM
5.8 FTA/GM vs 6.0 FGA/GM
2.7 fouls committed per game vs 2.8 Fouls committed per game

Free throws in the last 8 games: 34 (18 in GSW game)

However, if you remove the Golden State game which was a nationally televised game where the NBA instructed the referees to give him a reasonable whistle, he's shot only 16 free throws in the last 7 games combined. For a guy who lives inside the paint, how is that possible?

“Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to me is at the top of the MVP discussion, along with Anthony Edwards, who somehow doesn’t get mentioned. We got to get over this whole thing that you got to play in Los Angeles or a big market to be considered, primarily for MVP.”

I’m a Wolves fan, but I don’t put Ant at the same level as SGA, Jokic, Embiid or Giannis. At least not yet.

ANT has been great for sure but yeah I don't consider him an MVP candidate. Maybe in a year or two.

That is out dated. Why use an old graph. That graph is from middle of December

Since when do we care about PER? People ridicule it when I bring it up just as a point of comparison to pre-1974 players before better stats exist. Your argument is that Embiid leads PER and even more simplistic nunbers people looked at 20 years ago???

The best truly advanced stat we have is EPM EW. SGA leads Embiid 8.9 EW to 8.0 in less team games played. The best box score stat we have is VORP where SGA leads Embiid 3.5 to 3.3. Estimated RAPTOR WAR has SGA first at 8.3 with Embiid 5th at 5.6. SGA has an on/off of +16.6 compared to +10.0 for Embiid. And most importantly of all, he’s on pace to play 79-80 games while Embiid is on pace to play 64-65.

Quickley is really good. Raptors are still really bad. All I'm taking away from this raptors/grizzlies game.
