Not when you factor in his 4 from tonight...

Yeah you're right I didn't include tonight's game (or rather they weren't updated yet in nba.com's stats), that would surely put Jonas ahead comfortably.

You have to watch the games, stats dont tell anything close to the full story.

Cool. You realize that one is a rookie who's only played 5 NBA games right?

What is the pressure we're putting on him?? he isn't reading realgm or even the article posted by the op.. You must think Jonas is the most fragile person ever.

It's not RealGM: it's the media factor. Have you forgotten the whole "Valanciunas Centred story" thing? That's just BC's and co marketing strategy. So far he had success in selling Val, but if Val happens to struggle (which is inevitable), don't blame the player for not "living up to the expectations" (which were set by others).

He's been the new hope of a basketball-crazy country for years. . I think he can handle pressure. Besides, people here are too busy talking about the NHL lockout.

Yep, it's not about stats. It's his defense, energy and his feel for the game that have been impressive.

what are they supposed to show on nba tv canada? The reason they did that story on jonas was to inform the fans about the player they drafted and content for the station. They do shows like "behind the draft" Surely you wouldn't want that shown on tv either, us fans will expect the world out of ross and acy.. *shakes head*

NBA GM Survey

Which international player is most likely to have a breakout season in 2012-13?

1. Jonas Valanciunas, Toronto -- 17.2%
2. Ricky Rubio, Minnesota -- 13.8%
3. Nikola Pekovic, Minnesota -- 13.8%
4. Goran Dragic, Phoenix, Danilo Gallinari, Denver, Donatas Motiejunas, Houston, Kevin Seraphin, Washington, Alexey Shved, Minnesota, Mirza Teletovic, Brooklyn -- 6.9%

Also receiving votes: Christian Eyenga, Orlando; Evan Fournier, Denver; Enes Kanter, Utah; Tiago Splitter, San Antonio; Jan Vesely, Washington

Obviously, some GM's in the league think the guy has some game.

Jonas has been more efficient but Tristan has been slightly better as a shotblocker.

Oh those are cute stats!

Kanter is a great prospect, I love watching him play but he had some growing pains in his rookie year. I think before you compare him and Jonas you need to give Jonas some time to adjust to the league.

There is a doublestandard with the mods on this board that makes me less inclined to even visit the general board nowadays.

GUARANTEED? well how about you try it. i love when predictions pan out, it's like winning the lottery.

I'll do this right now, watch.

Stop disrespecting the mods. I hope you realize now that you have a bias against the mods in your thought process. Mods aren't here to screw you over at every turn.

BC is a master of getting the media on his side, by wearing a good suit and interviewing well. He's the ultimate politician in that way, he can cover up being crap at his job just by spinning it well. OTOH Brian Burke, despite doing a way better job for the Leafs than BC has with the Raptors, justs annihilated by the media hype machine just because he's a huge dick to them

Way to deal with the actual article and avoid talking about someone (Jonas) that you've repeatedly gone out out of your way to label a bust. Can you admit the fact that Jonas is playing well?

Do you still feel that Scott Machado and Meyers Leonard are far better prospects?

Jonas' defensive positioning and instincts have looked like those of a 5 year vet so far, which completely destroys his entire "Javale McGee like defensive IQ" argument, so don't expect Mufasa to come back with anything rational.

To be honest, I'm shocked with how well he guards the post. His positioning from game one on Greg Monroe, an extremely capable post big, was impressive. He gets into his defensive stance and moves his feet well on the initial move, then straightens out and uses his length without over committing extremely well during the shot. The extra year in Lithuania definitely helped him from a defensive standpoint, even if he was consistently ignored on the other end by the Rytas guards.

He blocked an airborne Amar'e from a standing position, I definitely think the 7'6 wingspan measurement was accurate, not the long ago reported 7'4. That seems like it would have been true for him at the U-17 tournament.

I get that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but even just after 5 meaningless Preseason games, i can't imagine anyone seriously saying they would take Mullens over Valanciunas if they had choice. I would love to have Mullens on the Raps but he' be fighting Ed Davis for minutes as the second big off the bench behind Amir.

He can jump higher, but by no means he's a better NBA athlete imo, not for the center position. As a PF, yes, he has the edge.

I saw a little of this in the last preseason game. JV was flashing in the post and open for lobs and bounce passes and the guards were just looking him off. I think that's a mistake by Toronto.

I'm not saying you have to dump it down to him every time, but they missed him multiple times within about 5-8' of the hoop.
