Warriors cannot afford to sign Barnes and Ezeli, and hope to ALSO replace guys like Iggy, Bogut, and Livingston. Hell, they have to replace Barbosa too.

Barnes is as good as gone. He will not be in a Warriors uni next season.

If he sucks as bad as you say he does, then maybe no one offers him the money he'll be asking for (or much less than he's anticipating) and the Warriors will match. Perhaps he'll even accept his QO (similar to the way Monroe did), lol.

In fact, another team's 4.5% raise max contract is a better deal too.

The tax threshold will be $120m+ after 16 and the Warriors can pay the tax as long as they don't get into repeater tax. The numbers work, including Ezeli.

The Warriors can match anything. The question is whether Barnes is worth their cap space.

The assumption that if you offer max you can get Barnes is wrong.

Maybe the assumption is wrong, but it shouldn't be. If the Warriors spend 20 mil a year on Barnes, they're going to eventually pay for it with a terrible bench and losing other players. Ezeli won't cost that and is arguably just as important to the future of the team.

No team (unless the lux/repeater tax is OK with ownership) can afford to spend 18% of the cap on their 4th option. That's madness.

The Bulls are going to clear out cap space and max out Harrison Barnes.

It will be a top heavy team if they go that direction, no doubt. Klay and Green's salary won't be 25% of the bigger $100m+ cap until their contract is up, so that helps.

It will be similar to how the Heat was built which was also top heavy in salaries.

Right now, Steph is on the $44m contract while Green Klay Barnes Ezeli were all in rookie deals, that's why they can afford Bogut and Iguodala now.

Even though Green and Klay get their max deals before the cap shoot up, Steph will get his $30m per year in his next deal. The salary will become top heavy regardless. They can't keep the same salary structure forever. This is a good sign because their draft picks worked out, and winning, and the players are not on rookies anymore.

So the question will be, how valuable is Barnes role as the small ball PF. If it means "that final edge" to win rings, the Warriors will match anything and become a top heavy team.

Filling up the rest of the rosters will be another task. But over the years you see competent ring chasers joining winning teams - aka Heat. So they can worry about that later. They need to decide if Barnes provide them the edge to be a championship favorite instead of just a contender.

The Warriors will be staying around the tax threshold of around $120m on-going as long as they can keep Steph as a contender. It can be a top heavy team with Barnes and Ezeli resigned to big deals or not. They might go into the tax a season or 2 but will avoid the repeater tax.

I don't think Barnes breaks out like Harden, but I can see him breaking out like Reggie Jackson in a larger role.
