Now, I think he'll be around the 10, 8, and 1.5 area throughout his career, maybe peaking at 15 PPG and 10 RPG for a couple years.

Just don't know if the kid has "it" anymore. Doesn't seem to take basketball seriously, really reminds me of Andrew Bynum, tbh.

Before his injuries I could have seen a possible Andrew Bynum pre 76ers days now I don't think he will be anything more then a Greg Oden a guy who was drafted on potential but couldn't stay healthy

Neither, he didn't have the top-level athleticism of either pre-injury, hard to imagine he'll get there now. In terms of playstyle, obviously Olajuwon is the closer comp.

On the health scale, he gave Embiid a 70% chance of full recovery, given the need for a 2nd procedure. (but the 2nd time they assembled a world class team of surgeons, etc. the same guy who worked on Durant. and the report was things looked a lot better then they anticipated when they went in to do the graft.) On a scale of talent, Sam said that Embiid was off the charts. he's a ridiculous combination of skills and athleticism. so, Hinkie's opinion is that the guy's ceiling is limited only by a 3 in 10 chance of re-injury. he has a 7 in 10 chance of being a (THE?) dominant force in the game. Sam may be a little partial, but no more than any other evaluator of NBA talent you're likely to find.

There's a gazillion reasons why players never reach their potential, especially ones with so little on their resume. A 7 in 10 chance that we will at least get to see what Joel can do sounds pretty good though considering some were doubting whether his bone structure ever had a chance to develop enough to support playing basketball.

They said his foot was fully healed before the draft as well, and until we see him on the floor, it's premature to say he hasn't lost anything and we have to see whether that foot will hold up.

Before which draft? In 2014 he was fresh from surgery. In 2015 it was announced before the draft that there had been some kind of a setback in the healing on the scan that was not there in the prior scan.

This time the medical team has said he is fully healed and he is playing 5-on-5 at the Sixers facility. This is a stage he did not get to last time.

Usually when you ask these questions you go from a scale from 1 to 10.

You my friend, only have a scale from 10 to 10...

Oden was a pretty good center, one of the most impactful defensive bigs and super efficient on the offensive end and could make free throws. Good rebounder too...still developing when injuries/alcoholism/dick pics took him down.

Yea Oden would have been good if he stayed healthy, his main on court issue was his foul rate... but he was really young, and if he had stayed healthy I have no doubt he was going to be 18-12 at a minimum within a couple of years, with high level defense.

The mental gymnastics people are willing to go through to justify their feelings about Embiid is ridiculous. This is the type of behavior we see when people talk about superstars like Lebron, Kobe, etc. Embiid has been with the league for 2 years now and hasnt played a single game..

Shaq, Hakeem, AND Kareem now in the discussion... Damn

I think the better question is, "will Shaq, Hakeem, or Kareem be remembered as being as good as Embiid?".

Let's get about a quarter of an NBA basketball game down before we consider the greatness that was supposed to be--3 years ago.

Shouldn't this be on player comparisons? I believe in Joel, I don't know how great he will be, but he looks like he can be amazing. I need to see him doing it on a NBA game tho, those names are all time greats... Op can save his mockery for his own franchise.

The Dream is my #1 center of all time so I don't want to compare but this guys potential is the only comparison.

True but Kwame Brown was never battle tested in the NCAA before all the hype started. We see year after year guys hyped up the wazoo in high school failing to impress greatly at age 18 in college. Embiid at the very least (whether people here want to accept stats or not) put up per 36 min stats in college pretty darn similar to Anthony Davis. He put up really, really good ORtg and DRtg differentials as well. He put up a high BPM. He was the concensus #1 pick after halfway through his Freshman season. Despite the injury in his Freshman year Cleveland was ready to draft him #1 overall after his individual workout before the concerns about his stress fracture in his foot arose in the post-workout medical.

So yeah you can bring up some guy who busted but material facts of the two bear no resemblance to one another.

On almost any facet by which you want to judge a prospect (except health) Embiid is elite. Elite physically, elite athletically, elite skill for his position. A high impact defensive big with offensive skill and athleticism - a unicorn on the basketball court. And a funny guy with loads of personality.

It's not just 76ers fans that need him. The NBA will be a much better overall product having him around acting as a spokesperson for them and putting up crazy highlight plays.

Excellent footwork and mobility for a 7'2 Center. And oh me oh my, what great shooting form and great touch. Definitely more skilled than Shaq, hence the Olajuwon comparison. But this guy looks bigger than The Dream, so I think he will be a more physically imposing player than Hakeem.

Not impressed by the video at all. He looks rusty in some of the moves. Once he gets pushed around we will see what he is capable of. Nobody sees him as a possible jumpshooting big? Lafrentz on steroids or somethin, blocks and j's
