Porzingis is firing the court so far. Blocks are hot.

Slovenia has no depth. It's simply a 3 man show and even the 3rd man (Randolph) is overrated. He's still the exact same old Anthony Randolph, making same old brain-farts ... Slovenia had depth in the past (at one point 5+ NBA players combined with several Euroleague stars; incredible for such a small country), but they had no true star so they struggled in knockout stages. Now they have a true star (Dragic), another upcoming star (Doncic), but then after you add Randolph, there's a very steep drop.

Dragic isn't going to be able to dominate vs. top teams because he's not a shooter. FIBA can be very hard for penetrating guards because of the rules, even more so when they can truly concentrate on him.
jptremblay wrote:Nope, but he has Slovenian money, which seems to work better.

I don't think they're paying him anything. That doesn't mean he doesn't have financial incentives, though. He's going to benefit from having EU passport, meaning he's not going to count as a foreigner anymore, so his team (right now Real Madrid) is going to be able to sign another foreigner (most likely another American). I'm sure he's going to get a nice bonus from Real because of it.

He also thinks he's going to benefit from being additionally exposed to the scouts (that are going to be watching Doncic closely, obviously), although I think that's a bit delusional. NBA teams know everything about him and it's not like he truly improved, as I mentioned above.

Slovenia has no depth? Yes there are not many stars, but there are many soid players... Dragič just showed us that he can win games on his own. The others just had a bad game.
Dončič had a bad game(poor shooting), Randolph had a bad game, Prepelič has many reserves, so do Muric, Vidmar, Blažič and Čančar.
For example Rebec, that didn't play a minute yesterday would be the 1st PG in half of the other countries(even Croatia).
With one player having a good game and other 11 with a bad game, Slovenia still managed to have control the whole game and take the win(even if it was against Poland)

Slovenia has an average team and almost no depth. Prepelic, Muric, Vidmar, Blazic and Cancar are the players you mentioned... Those players can be nothing more than a role players on an average EC team. Thats it. Cancar has the talent but he is not on EL or NBA level yet. How can you expect those guys to suddenly start contributing regularly if they werent able to do it in prep games against mostly bad teams?

Dragic is not able to win games by himself, he never was a closer. Yesterday he did well against a poor Polish team, he will not be scoring 30 against France, Greece or even Finland for that matter.

Rebec would be the best PG on half of the teams?? Are you serious? LOL
The guy is a streetballer, he is 6ft tall and has a bad attitude. You are delusional if you really think that about him.

Slovenias max is quarterfinals, that is it. If they dont improve, they will be knocked out even sooner. They havent shown anything to tell me they are capable of anything more than that.

We also face the Kings twice in the near future. I think it's time Yabu pays back some of that free money he's been given his entire career and bounces Fox for a nice 2 week ankle sprain.

nice overall game for latvia. Porzingis really has to work on getting open, ball handling and playing against double teams. Serbia really limited his impact by playing him physical away from the ball.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Westermann wasn't bad. He played good defense on Koponen. That said, Jackson was as good defensively and better offensively so he could have played more.

a-French-Fan wrote:Finland defended pretty well tonight, but France needn't anyone to force it to commit turnovers and ... Missing easy lay-up!!

That may be true but defense has always been a sore spot for Finland. Finland doesn't really have a defensive stopper (Shawn Huff is probably the best defender the team has) and a lot of its players are undersized for their position. They are a scrappy team but today's defense was much better than expected.

Westermann wasn',t bad but VERY bas on the last defense!! Watch it again (best play of the 1st top 5) and especially looks the way he tried to steal the ball instead of keeping bands up (for Wilson's shot). That not what do you expect from a professionnal.
Otherwise I agree with you, Finland's was notre expected so high and congratulations fort them. But missed lay-up and stupids turnovers were notre each time result of défense, but also France screwing up without any help :p
LA 2028 (Starters):
Francisco - Strazel - Malédon - Traoré ?
Coulibaly - Fournier
Risacher - Cordinier
Yabusele- Hoard - Essengue/Penda?
Wembanyama - Lessort - Raynaud / Beringer /Sarr?

These guys simply aren't good enough if you really want to go far. Prepelic & Blazic both think they're much better than they actually are, they keep forcing things, taking bad shots. Maybe if they were role-playing team players, but they're not. Cancar has talent, but he's raw. Muric and Vidmar are OK, but nothing special ...

The supporting cast is good enough for group play, but they're going to be a major handicap vs. top teams. For Slovenia to go far, they're going to need a couple superb games from their top 3.

Porzingis was lucky, there was no Jokic today to drop 40 on him again :)

I expect Finland to get tomorrow their second win vs. Slovenia and Salin to shut down Dragic.

Yeah, Westermann was very bad on that last defense on Wilson. But other than this defense he wasn't bad. He was much better than Heurtel on that end, for example.
