Cryptocurrency is useless apart from being an investment and making illegal transactions. Does nothing to liberate people as many claim, if anything contributes to inequality. A distraction hyped exclusively by people who wish for the price to go up. Total waste of electricity...the last thing humanity needs right now during a time of unprecedented environmental crisis.

Would be pleased to see Crypto.com go bankrupt one day, especially if it happens before the naming rights expire. Would that be a first?

A little off topic but it’s story time
I always hated the name “Petco Park” where the Padres play. Then when my wife and I moved to San Diego and we went to the gaslight district and had to park at the Petco park parking lot, she asked if next time we should bring our dog Charlie to walk him at Petco park. I loved the name Petco park ever since.

lol. How dare they sell the naming rights to Staples Arena.

And another lol for historic. That arena is barely old enough to buy beer.

I don't care how old the arena is - it's a legendary name. All you have to say is 'Staples' and everyone knows what you're talking about

Yeah, an office supply store.

Yeah, an office supply store.

More people would think of the arena - especially in LA. Trust me

Yes. Nobody knows what a staple means in LA. There is no real work done in LA. It's all movies, parties, and fashion events.

Again, the Lakers don't own the arena and have no say in the naming rights.

Corporate arena naming rights deals are the way of the world now - no one likes it, but to get angry about it is to risk being an old man yelling at the clouds. Of course I'd rather all arenas had names like 'Chicago Stadium' or 'Boston Garden' or 'The Summit' or 'The Omni' or 'The Spectrum' or whatever, but it is what is is.

But man, there are more subtle ways to give your arena a corporate name. Like my Bulls' United Center, or back when the current Vivent Arena was the Delta Center. Everyone knows United and Delta are airlines, but those words have other meanings and so they actually work(ed in the case of the latter) well.

I still think the greatest corporate naming rights deal I can remember is when The Forum - home of these same Lakers we're talking about - made their deal with Great Western Savings & Loan. I was a little kid when that happened, so when a seven-year-old me heard about games being played at 'The Great Western Forum' in the early 90s, it actually sounded kind of epic. I was a kid and didn't know anything of how the world worked, so it just sounded like a cool name.

Corporate arena names don't have to be awful. This one is awful.

I'm sure it's happened several times. About 10 years ago Power Balance signed a deal for the naming rights to the Kings old arena before it was Sleep Train. Power Balance filed for bankruptcy less than a year later.

i wonder if there is anything to gain financially from naming your arena something legendary. like why hasn’t MSG sold its name for some extra coin.

Heat went with a crypto name also recently- FTX Arena.

Money talks. It is what it is. I still say AAA in casual conversation and I'm sure Lakers fans will do the same with Staples. Hell, I still call Hardrock Stadium Joe Robbie. Old habits die hard.

If I receive an invitation for an event that will take place at Crypto.com, I would assume it is a streaming event.

I just can't imagine anyone saying "Lets go down to the Crypto Arena. Most people are probably going to keep calling it Staples Center for a long time.

Phil Anschutz of AEG owns the arena, and he already sold his Lakers shares to the current Dodgers' owners.

Unbelievably bad.

I understand the revenue stream but have some class. Even if someone offers you a billion dollars, you can't name it Sex Toy Center or Kentucky Fried Chicken Forum. You just can't.

Even in this day and age of people literally doing anything for any reason, it's still wild they chose to go with this name. And "The Crypt" doesn't work as a nickname. Condolences to anyone attending events there. Real shame.

This is probably one of the most ignorant posts I've ever seen regarding crypto and blockchain. It's literally changing the entire landscape of our financial system. Tokenizing assets provides huge benefits to the middle and working class, who otherwise would not have access to high priced assets like real estate. Crypto provides an alternative to citizens in economies with devastating inflation (Venezuela, Turkey, Iran). It's one thing to say crypto will fail (it might), it's ignorant (and very privileged) to say it does nothing to help people.
