In basketball, first there is Michael Jordan... then there is everyone else. 8-)

You numbers are way off:

MJ: 38279 points scored in 48485 minutes gives us 0.7895 points per minute.
LBJ: 44157 points scored in 62559 minutes gives us 0.7059 points per minute.

Jordan looks better, but not to the ridiculous degree you just showed.

KAJ: 44149 points scored in 66297 minutes gives us 0.6659 points per minute

Oops, in my hurry to reply, I only used the minutes for the regular season instead of adding minutes for the playoffs.

Your numbers are correct, however, they actually make Jordan look better than mine though!

0.93 - 0.85 = 0.08 / 0.85 = MJ scored 9.3% more per minute than Lebron, using mine.
0.79 - 0.71 = 0.08 / 0.71 = MJ scored 11.3% more per minute than Lebron, using yours.

The difference is now double-digits. :D
Why only look at points scored per minute? Lebron assists more. When you take assists into consideration, who comes on top?

Because this is a thread about points scored, duh.

Assists are also boring when a player makes his teammates stand around like muppets saying, "go wait in the corner to create space for me because I do not have the skills to beat double-teams nor the vision to play a quick, movement-oriented game... and if I still can't do anything with all this space you've made for me, I'll dish it out to you for a three".

We could instead talk about Titles Won, MVPs, Finals MVPs, All-Defense selections, Scoring titles... or compare their peaks by looking at a combination of things like WS/48, PER, BPM, VORP, etc. That will be a pretty short convo since MJ wins handily in every one of those categories, despite Lebron playing in an era (post-2004) where rule changes were introduced to make the offense more free-flowing and for players to draw more fouls. So perhaps, we could talk about how one guy engineered moves to surround himself with other stars as well as role players that fit his desired playing style to a tee, while the other guy made do with whatever he got and could have won a whole heck of a lot more if he'd engineered moves too... like if he went and got himself a Hakeem Olajuwon in the 1980s when they were both win-less and competing against the stacked Lakers, Celtics, Pistons, 76ers.

In an alltime draft its hard not to take him 1st i will say just because of how few weaknesses he has and how many different style of play you can use .

People will hate him from now on but Kobe respected him. That's all you need to know as a true fan.

The fact is MJ did more, so there is no getting off a high horse for that. Lebron is your favorite of all time. that's an opinion. You can stay up on your high horse for that all day long.

Most influential player in maybe sports history. How many were part GM.

My criteria is championships would be the greatest player if he won as many as Russell or undefeated like MJ. After Cleveland the 1st time he formed his teams

Oh sorry Mr. Historian. No matter how you look at it, no one has scored more points in NBA games. This is kind of big whether you like it or not. The reason you don't hear about this record is because no one has even gotten close until LeBron just passed it. Just comes off as extreme salt from people like you. You see this stat and go "WELL HES NOT GOAT", No one is claiming this made him the GOAT, but the insecurity from MJ "stans" or whoever is hilarious. It's like every time LeBron breaks a record you guys get threatened or something.

I like what Kareem said about all this GOAT stuff. It’s always going to be an opinion, never hard fact. I lean towards Russell, but appreciate the merits of Wilt, Kareem, Michael and, yes, LeBron for sure. Throw Duncan in there as well, and the Magic-Bird combo.

When LeBrons face is your avatar - you are pretty much disqualified from calling anybody else a Stan. We get it though, you idolize the guy! Obviously hearing someone say ANYTHING that puts your hero in a bad light (like the fact that he is by far the worst player ever when it comes to losing the ball) cause you great irritation.
Believe it or not, it's OK. It's OK if LeBron is extremely clumsy with the ball. It's OK if right now the Lakers are a joke because LeBron messed up in putting together this team. It's OK if LeBron will never match Jordan's record. It's OK if LeBron's hairline keeps coming and going. It's OK if LeBron might have to go play in China if he wants to play on the same team as his son. It's OK whatever people say about him and you know why - It doesn't really matter! It doesn't really affect you! Lebron, like all the other athletes in the NBA and other sports are simply guys who get paid to play a game. Guys who have unique talents and abilites that they get paid for. Guys who honestly have no actual influence on our lives (well unless you gamble a lot, then maybe they might affect you - but that's a different topic). So, relax, take a deep breath, and don't let what anonymous posters say about a guy that doesn't really affect your life affect you so much - really - It's all right!!!!!

Again, it's the people like you who see this and hate LeBron, so you get insecure about it. He has the most points in NBA history, that's what this thread is about. People like you freak out and say HES NOT JORDAN, while this thread isn't even about Jordan. "HES NOT THE GOAT WAHHH", no one is saying this stat just made him the goat. It's just more insecurity lol I don't even have LeBron as the GOAT or better than MJ, so whatever nonsense you have to spew to try and discredit what LeBron's longevity has done isn't going to work on me. You got the wrong one.

I actually went back and read the rest of your post and it's exactly what I thought it was. A bunch of nonsense that has nothing to do with what this thread is about. He's still the all time leader. All the extra stuff you have to say that have nothing to do with the topic are your own issues with him. Work on it.

BTW I called him a "stan" in quotations as a joke because he said stan. I think it's a dumb word either way. Anything else?

Actually, yeah, you're pretty funny! You represent the LeBron stans to a tee (and you don't even have to like the word stan to be one!). My original statement was a harmless joke comparing LeBron's new "record" to another "record" of his (you know the whole butterfingers thing). Now, most people would see that, get a quick chuckle out of it, and go on with life. However, a true LeBron fanatic would take that statement, get extremely outraged by it(AAAAHHH, you dared to insult the Great One AAAHHHH), go on a tirade (or 2 or 3) about the insecurities of others, and feel justified in having defended their idol (without even realizing how much of a stan they are making themself out to be in the process)
Just for a little clarity, I really don't care one way or another (I suppose you could say that I find it interesting). However, freaking out is not something I plan on doing, because again, I really don't care about this topic enough to let it affect me. Now, I do enjoy making jokes about it (you know, because it is rather humorous, the whole LeBron and his inability to hang onto a basketball) and I dont' mind seeing a Lebron stan or two get the hackles all riled up, but that isn't really my goal. My goal is to enjoy reading threads about basketball (of which, this is one). Should I happen to make a comment, it isn't because I'm all up-in-arms or freaked out about it, but rather it's because I feel like saying something (in this case I felt like it needed to be pointed out that Lebron does indeed have the record for the most turnovers - again funny).
So, now your it's turn - commence with tirade number 4!!!
As for another point of clarity, I don't believe neither LeBron nor Jordan is the goat, but that's not really what's imporatant here.

You came off as condescending. Apologies if that was misunderstood. I am also unaware of the butterfingers thing, so maybe that's why. You weren't necessarily clear in your original post and I believe I have been more than clear in this conversation. If you're going to come at me for being a stan while I'm coming at someone else for being a reverse stan or whatever you wanna call it, just try and mind your business next time to avoid this

People can insult LeBron all they want, and I still don't think you have the capability of understanding my points here. This is kind of a cool record, that's all that it is and we have crybabies saying BUT THIS DOESNT MAKE HIM THE GOAT WAHHHH. I just think it's funny that they have to defend their man, like you are claiming I am. This is clearly a defense mechanism to defend Jordan because he doesn't have the longevity stats. And this is fine, Jordan is still the GOAT, but I find it funny. I'll also wait for your tirade #3. Pot calling kettle black and you don't even see the irony in your posts. Try again.

Let's just all agree that we use our own criteria to make subjective judgments on who is the GOAT, including myself. James fans, MJ fans, KAJ fans, Russell fans, etc... . All of us pick and choose our own stats to fit who we want as GOAT. All of us have inherent biases and discriminatory views. Period.

this was the point i wanted to make but couldnt elaborate. every single major metric mj destroys lebron the gap is too big the all time list is really MJ and then a bunch of dudes including lebron, kareem, etc they can fight 2-10.
but there is one lethal weakness he retired twice and played college a lot of yrs so his total points scored sucks despite destroying lebron in terms of points per game.

i can already tell lebron's masterplan for his goat campaign is surpassing him in total points which is indeed one of the greatest accomplishments. this is why lakers are tanking and russ stats are plummeting at the expense of lebrons stat padding. lebron is desperate to score 30pts per game but even with his 29.1ppg it seems he needs at least another season or two with his body already betraying him he has already abandoned defense his impact might be closer to a fringe all star. total points is probably the only legacy left with 0% to win a ring lebron probably murmurs '30ppg or failure' in his sleep and practice.

lebron stans can deny all of this since he hasnt said it yet, but this is the only scenario possible to brainwash future generations who never witnesssed MJ. lebron will likely start his secret operation once he surpasses kareem so stay tuned.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

Kinda surprising that there are this many people that would rather embarass themselves continuously than simply......not post in a thread about a player they hate to their very core.

If a player I hated this much broke a record, I wouldn't be anywhere near their thread if I knew I couldn't muster up a congratulations.

Re: LeBron has now scored more points than anyone in NBA history

And he's not even close to being done because he's going to play into his 40s so he can play with his son.

Bron is going to put the scoring record even further out of reach than Kareem did.

I don't know about the rest of you but when I was growing up the idea of anyone surpassing Kareem in scoring was considered unrealistic. We had seen the greatest scorer of all time - MJ - make a run at it and he didn't even get close. It felt like it was going to be one of those old records that never falls.

We can get into GOAT arguments but that's personal preference. There are about four or five guys that belong in the GOAT conversation and any one of them would be fine choices, but LeBron is absolutely one of them.

For my money Bron is the GOAT.

Think about it, noboby has ever lost the ball more times than LeBron. That's pretty bad.

No one said this made him the GOAT, but it seems that you might think it gets him closer to it. You’re projecting some major insecurities

then whats the point of bringing this meaningless stat nba historians do not care about? lebron is going to exploit this stat in case he cant surpass kareem rs total points but will still stat pad because this is not even the official record. nobody except lebron and his stans care about it. he was already an all time great in terms of points even yrs ago.

So the stat doesn't make you GOAT, it is meaningless? It gets him closer to GOAT and adds another layer of support.
