Aside from the terrible nickname for Brunson, the whole premise of this thread doesn't make a lot of sense. It's not like Mitchell was a FA. He didn't get to choose New York. And I doubt he could have pouted his way to there either, like Ainge would cave into his demands to go to one market without getting the deal he wanted.

Ainge was going to make the trade he thought was best, and that was to Cleveland. And if the Knicks trade would have happened,
most likely three of Barrett/Toppin/Quickley/Grimes would have been moved to the Jazz, so who's to say they would have been that great anyway this year.

Donovan Mitchell

or

Quickley
Grimes
Barrett
UnProtected 2023 First Round Pick
UnProtected 2024 First Round Pick Swap
UnProtected 2025 First Round Pick
UnProtected 2026 First Round Pick Swap
UnProtected 2027 First Round Pick

Plus the Knicks wouldn't have been able to acquire Josh Hart because they traded their 2023 1st Rd for him, the other protected picks the Knicks have from Dallas/Washington suck, another playoff team would have snatched him up.

So essentially it's

Donovan Mitchell

or

Josh Hart
Quickley
Grimes
Barrett
UnProtected 2024 First Round Pick Swap
UnProtected 2025 First Round Pick
UnProtected 2026 First Round Pick Swap
UnProtected 2027 First Round Pick

Come on, what would you rather have?

Donovan shot 5 for 8 today, ouch!

Mitchell is a very very good #2, he isnt a #1 on a contending team. But with that said, not sure he's cut out to be a #2 either because that dude might be the laziest off ball guy I can remember. The second he gives the ball up, he just stands still with his hands above his head calling for the ball. If he can buy into a #2 role, he could be elite at it. Just dont see him being a legit #1.

I never understood the hype with Mitchell. He's like 2nd option / 3rd option

Mitchell could've made his trade destinations public saying he only wants to play for so and so teams, sort of what Melo did. That's on Ainge to honor his requests but would teams go after a player who doesn't want to play for them?

Maybe not, but at that point Ainge just holds onto Mitchell until he acquiesces. He was under contract.

It really is. I’d rank it a -2 out of 10.

New York should actually go after a big wing, someone who can guard the KDs & Tatums of the League
