The media and us fans get excited when the offense looks good, and coaches are instantly appreciated for that.

All JJ Redick has done is juice the Lakers offense at the expense of their defense. They're a top 5 offense and a bottom 4 defense. Last year around this time, they were a top 10 defense, and a bottom 10 offense. They currently have a -0.5 Net rating. Last year after 16 games, it was +0.3.

The Lakers are the same. Redick simply move his food around on the plate and told mom: look I ate more, can I have dessert?

EDIT: I think the Lakers were pretty solid last year. I'm not saying they're bad or were bad.

Funny to call an actual recent NBA basketball player an analytics nerd who thinks sports are played on a calculator. I think his offensive system has been pretty good. He's been very successful doing the things he said he was going to do: using AD as a hub, getting more playmaking from different guys, being less Lebron-ccentric. I think he's been fine so far.

I have strongly felt over the past couple years that the Lakers are solid but not that good, and struggle to be able to play offense and defense at a high-level at the same time. Coach's don't make something from nothing, so I don't have mega criticism for JJ. I felt opposed to his early season hype, but I don't think he's a bad coach yet.
