Cuban and the Mavs are morons.

Davis is nice but an aging #2 option not a #1.

Cuban isn't in charge anymore. That's why he's a moron

I think we should remember who are we talking about, what he has actually achieved in his first 6 years while joining as a teenager:
- we have 5 active players with at least 5 all NBA 1st selections: Lebron (40), Durant (36), Harden (35), Giannis (30) and Luka (25!!)
- the only players with 5 All NBA 1st in their first 6 seasons were Timmeh, Bird and then you go back to Oscar, West, Pettit and Baylor. Who all started older
- he had his best regular season last year and, even if injured, he led his team to the finals dominating the WCF

Really, there must be a closet full of skeletons hidden somewhere to justify a move like this. This is not the kind of move that can cost a career, it will cost Harrison's name to be remembered in infamy for decades and decades. King or Khan had it easy, in comparison. This is something that you can't justify, if you're wrong.

If he's 270 pounds from an exclusive human baby eating diet, this may be a good PR piece to go with the trade. Going to guess not tho.

They are pretty dumb if they are thinking this run without Luka was that legit.

There is no run w/o him, they lost 13 of the last 20 w/o him, including Hornets, depleted Grizzlies and Pelicans...

Overweight or not this trade was still a bad idea for Dallas. They've sabotaged their future. You're being gas-lighted to believe this was a fair trade. "Conditioning concerns"

Luka was drafted just a year before and played in 422 RS games so far - 350 games since Zion joined the league.
Almost twice as many games.
+ 50 postseason games.

I think you can have two separate opinions on this trade:

1. The Mavs didn't get enough and basically gave Luka away.

2. Luka is a younger version of James Harden and won't be winning a title at any point because he doesn't take care of himself and he plays no defense. His lack of taking care of his body will catch up with him as he ages and this will be his peak.

Those are not mutually exclusive opinions to have.

I think Luka might be the only player in NBA history to get 5x first team all NBA in first six seasons. Kobe, Jordan, LeBron, Kareem and Russell did not achieve this.

Edit: found one other, Bird

Timmy as well.

The thing that is amazing is that he was younger than them.

He had arguably had more eye catching moments in the playoffs than both of them which says a lot about his greatness at the respective ages.

Mbappe is about the same age as Luka and is still arguably the a top 3 striker in the world, many would argue he's the best

I mean, if that's him not trying to get better..any team would be happy to have a world class player

Besides, I don't buy into Luka not being competitive or competitive enough. he may not be professional enough but that's different than competitiveness

5 years ago Mbappe looked like the next Ronaldo/Messi tier GOAT contender, who would be in a tier of his own with Haaland for a decade+. Now he's not even Real's key man. He's still an amazing talent, but he's just one of the best right now along with Wirtz / Musiala / Haaland / Bellingham / Vini / etc.; not running out ahead of the pack.

Not saying I think Luka will become Zion, but I do wonder if he'll ever reach an even higher level or if he won't become more mortal.

Luka going to the Lakers just gives me Mbappe finally going to Real vibes.

This is not a good example brother. It's obvious Mbappe doesn't look as good because he went from competing in a mediocre league (France) to arguably the best one in the world (Spain). It's obvious he would not look as good.

Luka is staying in the same league and joining a team with the exact same calibre of help surrounding him. He WILL be the key man because he's a top 5-10 NBA player based on his appearances this season and top 3 in most of his recent seasons. Lebron and Kyrie roughly equal at this age as 1B's. Role players average on both teams. Luka's just gonna Luka. First fat, then he'll drop some as he plays, then he'll drop some more this summer. Just like that.

Everyone's going to say "but you weren't sure he'd do that" but I am sure he will and you wouldn't bet against it. I am also 100% sure that a mental health professional could have sorted his conditioning issues for Dallas - it's not that big a deal to fix, you just can't hope the person does it on their own sometimes. It's common knowledge. You don't have to trade him for 36 year old AD and a useless pick.

You can downplay the ligue 1 titles PSG won, but Mbappe dominated at the CL and NT levels as well, and he's just has not been at that same level the past couple years, which is why even the French NT can't rely on him like they used to. He could get back there...the ability hasn't gone, but the fire to make the most of that ability isn't there anymore.

That's why this isn't about the level of competition, this is about Mbappe feeling he doesn't have anything left to prove and it's ok for him to ditch his team to go partying in sweden. Luka hasn't won as much as Mbappe, which is the main difference, but if Luka wasn't as hungry to win as Kylian when they first came up, that may not be that meaningful.

Not trying to justify the trade and I don't care if Luka has a dad-bod, just my gut reaction to this trade was similar to Mbappe finally going to Real.

"Luka is lazy! Luka is out of shape! Major Zion concerns!"

Post#177 » by Handlez » Mon Feb 3, 2025 3:14 pm

Can you believe the utter BS narrative they're trying to spin?

Lol.

5 time first team ALL-NBA. Scoring champion. Averages 31, 9, and 8 in the playoffs. Highest career scoring average in the current league. Led team to finals last season. Absolutely destroyed the favorite Suns to make the WCF.

At 25 years of age. Not even in his damn prime.

I agree.

Sure, Luka may have some conditioning issues and needs to monitor his weight better, but he regularly plays 70-80% of the games every season, and shows up in the playoffs at an elite level. Not to mention Luka is regarded as a great teammate and leader.

Zion literally can't walk properly, has chronic knee issues and has missed majority of his career. Zion is also regarded as an awful teammate and leader.

Luka had an issue that could be easily solved just like Kyle Lowry solved his weight issues...you can't solve Zion's chronic knee issues and the way he walks.

Luka also had the type of game that would be effective well into his 30s because he doesn't rely on athleticism/explosiveness which makes this even more perplexing.
