i don't think that it's an absolutely bad trade for Portland. Veteran presence is highly valued these days and especially for teams wanting to contend.

Simons is supremely overated. So they didn't want to pay holiday but will not go and give Simons 30 mil a year? The guy is a horrible defender.
This doesn't really move the needle much for Boston in my eyes.

Both teams might flip the players. Celtics are far away from getting under the second apron, and I believe they will like to get below the luxury tax, but they can remedy some of during the season.

I would understand this if Portland could flip Holiday for something, but they need to attach something to get rid of him.
Trading younger player and probably better in the future for older on worse contract and adding picks to make the deal happen? Thats some next level stupid ****.

No trade they could have made was going to move the needle for you if you're ignoring that they made this trade because it saves money and gets them off a bad Jrue future contract. Good chance he isn't even on the team this year anyway, and I think they know what his defense is.

I watched a little bit of Portland this season. Simons is an empty calories guy imo, inconsistent and inefficient, and a negative on defense. Definitely talented as a scorer, but guys like him are a dime a dozen at this level. Their offense and overall ball movement looked better when they let Avdija run the show.

I didn’t watch a whole lot of Boston this year, is Jrue washed?

Portland was good down the stretch so maybe they’re feeling ambitious. Got another move in them?

I like this trade for both but Portland should be getting the seconds or one protected first. Not giving them up. They gotta move Ayton or Grant now. But I really like that team now a lot of good defenders. Jure will help set that culture there for them. Love it for both.

Holiday might surprise many next season. He dealt with a shoulder and finger injury all this season. He does so many things that add to winning. I'm very sad to see him go. Simons is ok, Boston can try and teach him to defend and if he doesn't learn, he's expiring.

They're still not a great team but Simons was standing in the way of what Billups is trying to do there. Blazers were a substantial net negative with him on the court. They lose some offense with Holiday but maybe gain some cohesion.

Still think they're silly for giving draft capital. Sounds like they approached Boston with the idea and were treating Simons as a liability.

i think u are wrong with the roster. Scoot and Ayton will be there only until they are traded. With your logic, u should also put Grant in as a starter. I mean, that can be a rotation, but only until. Just like they traded Simons, they would want to trade Scoot and Ayton (Grant too)

Haha, I wrote this on May 16th:

Chuck Everett wrote:An Anfernee Simons for Jrue Holiday trade would shave 5 million off of Boston's books (plus Simons is expiring). Holiday could be a good vet mentor for the young Blazers backcourt/team and still help them win games, even as an expensive backup/spot-starter.

Regarding Porzingis... I honestly don't know. But he is an expiring. Maybe Ainge will do them a solid for John Collins, if they add a pick (which would save Boston another 4 million).

If they wanted a bad contract there was no need to give up draft capital in the process

On a good side your tickets dropped by 10$ a game

I can’t imagine they gonna feature Holiday and raise the prices

You guys are crazy, Jrue is a great get for Portland. He's the type of vet you want on a young team because he's a true professional who also gets after it on the defensive end.

Bingo.

And a leader for the young guys.

Billups is too far removed for that???

Yes. Billups is their head coach and too far removed to relate to them on that level. The other vets in the locker room were Ayton, Thybulle and Grant. Grant is the oldest at 31.

Yeah, in no world is Billups starting Scoot over Jrue next season. Billups will have too much respect for Jrue to do that.
