just reminding people that a win against the awful rockets tomorrow does not bring "it" back.

I think the "it" he was referring to was the Boston Celtics' "Swag" (Read: Swagger).

Yeah, the roaming helps him disrupt plays, but it also helps him conserve energy. He's not exactly some super energetic help/team defender even when he's on (or should I say "off") Rondo. Fact is, it's easier to play 15 feet off and loaf around the court covering an area than it is to apply ball pressure, cut off passing angles and alter desired plays, and deny penetration.

He is doing those things... just not to Rondo but to PP and KG (mostly KG). It's not like he's just sagging and playing zone. He's running around disrupting the C's offense. That's why Doc called Kobe the greatest help defender since Pippen.

It's also a gimmick because no other team, and more importantly no other Laker, plays Rondo the same way. And it's not because Kobe is some super elite team/help defender, though I'm sure you'll say that's the reason. Fisher is the best team defender on LA, actually.

LOL at Fisher being the best team defender this season. He and Farmar have been complete sieves. I doubt you've watched any games this season based on that statement. The best team/help defenders this season have been (in no particular order) Kobe, Ariza, Odom, and Bynum. Everyone else is so far behind they aren't even worth mentioning.

Oh yeah, nice try on the pre-empting the "Kobe's an elite team/help defender" thing. I didn't say that but many other people clearly have... including the Celtics own coach.

Anyway... other Lakers don't guard Rondo that way because they can't. Fisher is completely useless as a second defender on KG. Kobe's got about 6 inches of height and even more length on Fish. I do believe Ariza would do a great job playing the Kobe-roamer role though.
"I'm sure they'll jump off the bandwagon. Then when we do get back on top, they're going to want to jump back on, and we're going to tell them there's no more room." - Kobe in March of 2005

LOL just as the Celtics were on fire about to go on to have the best record of all time when they were at 27-2...two former members of that 72-10 team - Phil Jackson (Lakers) and Michael Jordan (Bobcats) give them two crucial losses.

Randy Brown (Kings)

it is the starbury ****. You guys don't understand how big of a cancer he really is. Just the mere mention of him going to boston has killed their team and entered Rondo into stage IV. Rondo was playing great, and now he has to worry about that crackbaby coming in and taking his spot, while dropping 8 assists and 8 dimes.

And I'm sure you believe that...

Individually, yes, but team-wise Fisher is the best team defender on LA. He's constanty drawing charges, getting his hand in on penetration from the wings to disrupt drives, stripping/harrassing post players when they make their moves etc. Don't tell me -- I watch the games.

I doubt you've watched any games this season based on that statement.

I've actualy watched at least 20 Laker games this season, and it's pretty easy to see.

Oh yeah, nice try on the pre-empting the "Kobe's an elite team/help defender" thing. I didn't say that but many other people clearly have... including the Celtics own coach.

Yes Bilge, Kobe is the best hep defender since Pippen. I also have a bridge to sell you if you're interested. Kobe's help/team defense has always been the weakest part of his defensive game. Most non-homers know this.

Anyway... other Lakers don't guard Rondo that way because they can't. Fisher is completely useless as a second defender on KG. Kobe's got about 6 inches of height and even more length on Fish. I do believe Ariza would do a great job playing the Kobe-roamer role though.

This is sophistry. Whether Fisher would or would not be able to be as good a "roamer" in that situation as Kob is irrelevant, because the fact remains that he could still easily do, and it would at least have some effect (since there's no negatives, as Rondo can't shoot); but he doesn't do it for some reason. Neither do Farmar or Sasha when they happen to guard Rondo. It's not hard to play 15 feet off a guy and roam around. And it's not because Fisher can't recover to contest shots either, since Kobe is seldom even within 10 feet of Rondo when he does decide to shoot it.

On topic, the Celts have been terrible since the Christmas day loss to LA. They're 2-5 over their last 7 games (many of those losses against poor teams) and are clearly a team that needs to find their identity again. Where's the leadership?
