Barnes is actually underrated as a scorer tbh.

Cade and Green are deservingly in the spotlight here, but people who thinks Barnes as a scorer is a role player are criminally underrating him if I had to go by rookie year. He's up there with those 2.

Cade: 21/6/7 on 53 TS% with a 29 USG% (6-11 team record)
Scottie: 17/8/4 on 56 TS% with a 19 USG% (15-7 team record)

Scottie played 5 more games, had similar numbers (less scoring and assists because his usage was significantly lower) and he contributed to Toronto going on a big run to claim the 5th seed. It could have gone either way. Cade wasn't "hands down" better.

Hilarious when the stat rounds down to .9 to make it fit

How else do you think one finds these stats other than entering exactly what the current player put up and seeing who else matched it historically? It's averages of points, rebounds, and assists. Not exactly obscure, cherry picked stats.

Usage was lower but so was the amount of offense he had to create for himself. He also played more mpg and had a far lower ast% regardless of usage. Cade had the better March but if they bunched in April then thats why he didn't get it.

Didn't Lebron win ROY on almost exactly those numbers? Better revoke his trophy!

lol it's not even inefficient. Somehow Cade is an "inefficient chucker" averaging 23ppg on 1.18 points per shot, while Scottie is the GOAT efficiency rookie at 16.6ppg on 1.21 points per shot for March-April. That's ignoring that Cade creates his offense out of nothing and is at the top of the scouting report every night...

But anyways, it is what it is. Cade got punished for the fact that his team was obviously trying to tank the last week or so.

there are definitely cases to be made for either guy's situation being easier or harder. scottie plays on a really good team where he has a lot of support and options. cade plays on a crappy team where he has to do everything himself. on the other hand, cade has the freedom to do whatever he wants without real consequences whereas scottie is playing 36 mpg guarding top players in the league fighting for a top 5 playoff position and so there is a lot more pressure on him not to screw up, which he hasn't, as proven by the team's great record recently. i can def see why you'd be pissed after Cade was so impressive but i gotta go with the guy who had only slightly less impressive numbers but is doing it with so much more on the line and such a much smaller margin for error.

Honestly though, the biggest criticism I see for why Barnes shouldn't win ROTY is.....because he was drafted by the Raptors.

In this logic any rookie that was drafted by us shouldn't win either, if Cade, Green or Mobley was drafted by us they shouldn't win because they were drafted by the Raptors.

If they were drafted by us, they'd be the 3rd option as well because Siakam is still here and Fred "I want all the awards" Van Vleet is very very shot happy.

In other words they'd take the bulk of the shots regardless on who we'd draft. Even if was Cade or Green.

If inefficient high usage is a good thing, then why don't we just put Antoine Walker in the Hall of Fame?

i don't know why kuminga isn't getting more ROY hype. he checks off all the boxes:

- team won MORE than 50 games
- markedly more efficient than other top rookies
- 99th percentile defensive versatility
- despite injuries to key warriors, kuminga kept them winning
- consistent throughout the season
- it's not his fault for his role on the team, the same would happen to any other rookie

Kuminga didn't really get solid minutes till Feb. If ROY only took half a year into consideration - I'm sure many more rookies would be included in the conversation!

he didn't get gifted minutes early because his team has lots of depth... don't think that should be held against him. his play was consistent.
