What a ugly, boring brand of basketball. I have no idea how can anyone prefer this junk over NBA.

SMH.

Least talented? Thats quite a statement, most teams are at or near full strength, doesnt happen very often.

This is another untrue US sports media talking point. US sports media always claims that, and most of the time (almost always actually) it is not true.

Many of these teams are missing numerous important players. It is definitely not a tournament with most teams being at full strength. It's in fact a watered down tournament overall, just like the recent EuroBaskets were.

And not only are plenty of teams missing key players, and the tournament missing the European champion (which is absurd), the talent pool just isn't the same.

The US at full strength woudn't be what they were with the Redeem team, much less when they're bringing a C team. Spain is not even close to what it was 10 years ago. Same goes for Argentina, who was fantastic with Ginobili, Nocioni and Scola at their primes. Russia, Lithuania or Greece aren't going through their best years either. Germany was a much better team with Nowitzki. I would say even France with Parker was better a few years back. The only teams that are clearly on the rise now are Serbia and an Australian team that is also missing key players.

Top teams are just not that talented right now. We'll see in 4-5 years.

I prefer this over NBA all the way. NBA is often just trading baskets interfered with 3 minute long timeouts, both boring, and unbearable due to stoppage time.

Agreed. I find myself enjoying these games more than NBA, and that was impossible 5 or 10 years ago.

Scola is only getting younger
Or maybe it's because he was playing like a 40 year old when he was 20 and I can't tell the difference LOL

This is BY FAR the worst FIBA has ever been!

The presidents of FIBA and all that are from countries that know nothing about basketball. Apparently all top quality refs who ref in euroleague were dismissed here (You can guess why). Meaning we get to see really low quality WWE level officiating, probably the worst of this decade.

The qualifications are poorly done. Because of that we don't get to see countries like Slovenia, Croatia, Latvia, Mexico and many more who at least wouldn't get blown out by 40+ points every game

I really hope more NBA stars refuse to play in there like team USA did this year. FIBA is becoming a joke and detrimental to the future international basketball tournaments. They want to look like FIFA so badly, forgetting that soccer is a worldwide sports, basketball is still really bad in a lot of countries, and the proof is here in this poor 32-team tournament.

So everyone’s been raving about how FIBA rules are better and the refs are better than the NBA only for this to happen. lol

Bogdanovic on Serbian NT is starting to remind me a lot of Ginobili.

He's playing for the wrong team in the NBA. :P

Spain is toast. No firepower on offense. Rubio with no jumper and scoring game is their main point of attack, Gasol just hangs around the perimeter, doesn't even try to post up. Expecting a clean win by Serbia here.

Similar career arch to Manu, too. Joined the league at 25 as a sixth man after a successful Euro career that included a Euroleague title. Manu dominated an international tournament ('04 Olympics) after completing his second NBA season, Bogdan is currently dominating an international tournament after completing his second NBA season.

Manu was an All-Star in his third season, unlikely for Bogdan though since he plays for the Kings and not an established contender like the Spurs.

FIBA decisions lately have been all about making most money. Which is funny because NBA haters point out how FIBA tournaments are real basketball and NBA is a show business to make money...well touché this time.

When I saw the host China getting easiest possible group it was obvious where FIBA was going

I wonder how long until we get to see world cup in a country like Saudi Arabia.

I like this big lineup by Serbia. You have to play to your strengths, not just follow trends.

Spain still has an elite defense, they just lack offensive fire power with all those aging players.

Great zone defence by Spain, will be interesting to see how Serbia can adapt and counter that.

Best FIBA refs are euroleague ref ...

BTW, I like how FIBA said "ok they screwed this action, so they are suspended", where they could say "they did s*** all game, helped Lithuania getting back , and screwed the last free throw action"

This action was a scandal for refs, but like the whole game . France was really unfairly in foul trouble, don't forget it when you think only at the more critical action.
