Spanoulis is maximizing Giannis. No other coach had. No coach for Greek NT and no NBA coach the Bucks had has ever used him as well.

Even Itoudis, who the European media calls a coaching genius and all time coaching legend didn't know how to use Giannis.

Spanoulis is using him perfectly and Doc Rivers sure does not.

Greece had this same luxury of having Giannis for over a decade, and none of the coaches until Spanoulis could figure out what way to use a unique player like him.

Or is the argument that Giannis just started to understand the game when Spanoulis became the coach and it's all coincidence? That Giannis even though he had 2 NBA MVPs and a finals MVP was just totally clueless about how to play in FIBA before Spsnoulis?

He averaged 29 ppg and was literally EuroBasket top scorer in 2022 without Spanoulis, but sure, "totally clueless"

The team's offense was horrific under Itoudis. All the other players just stood and watched. Giannis created nothing for any other player.

The offense was so stagnant and no players had any rhythm to shoot and everything was just stand still and throw up a 3 pointer.

Giannis had no connection to the rest of the team. The only player that could function like that was one dimensional Dorsey, that only shoots jumpers.

And on defense, the team had no system, no identity, no cohesion, no communication, and Giannis was out of his spot on defense and missing assignments, failing to rotate, and making mistakes all over on switches.

The team's coaching under Spanoulis is light years better than it was then, and so is Giannis' performance.

And quite frankly, any claims to the contrary are massive trolling.

Latvia , Litueva or Israel with less talent are much better teams.

Latvia and Israel are eliminated and Greece, with its such a bad coach, is still alive.

But we have some claims here that Ioannis Sfairopoulos or Andrea Trinchieri are better coaches.

Giannis did nothing on offense that entire tournament but play one on five. He either tried to get fouled, got fouled, forced a missed shot, got a layup or dunk, or made a teammate standing still at the 3 point line shoot a long jumper at the end of the shot clock, out of rhythm, after a badly timed and inaccurate pass.

On defense, Giannis was out of position over and over and over, that whole tournament. He was making bad plays on switches constantly and he was slow to rotate to shooters over and over and over.

Itoudis just let him roam around and do whatever he wanted on defense. And it was a huge disaster in the game against Germany, where they just absolutely torched him all game long, with hitting jumpers in his face, because he wasn't in the right place on switches and closeouts.

No knock on Jokic who played amazing, but I have to give Doncic and Giannis a ton of credit for doing what needed to be done fore their teams to advance. Whether it was Luka dominating the ball and scoring 50% of his teams or Giannis shooting 85% in an elimination game, they simply got the job done.

True. But Jokic probably gets the gold, if Bogdanovic didn't get hurt.

But then again, even without Bogdanovic, Jokic still had one of the best teams in the tournament, or at least, he certainly had a much better team around him than what Markannen and Doncic have around them, even without Bogdanovic.

Giannis on another franchise could have been more successful.

The Bucks (mostly Budenholzer) have used Antetokounmpo perfectly for so many years...the best proof of that is their championship with him as a Finals MVP. And don't forget his 2 MVP seasons. He is already a living legend.

This is a short tournament with an easy road for someone as great as Antetokounmpo. He would get tremendous numbers with any coach, but it's true that he is doing it with Spanoulis on the bench. Good for both of them.

Wow, saying that Trinchieri is a bad coach(or not a great coach) is just as bad as saying Spanoulis is a bad coach..

And to be fair, this is the best team Giannis has had around him in Greece(or let's say the best fit for him, by far)
