Re: Should / would Boston consider a Isaiah Thomas and Kyrie Irving trade?
I know the contracts dont match up so it wont happen. But say somehow they found a way to do it financially. Kyrie is the younger and better player (in my opinion) so I assume Boston would have to ship one of their 1st round picks as well, obviously not the Brooklyn pick or the LA pick, so lets just say one of the Clippers or Grizzlies picks (or both if you think that would make the better deal). I think it would benefit both teams. The Cavs get their one more year to try and win with Lebron, plus they got a pick or picks to help build for a rebuild. For Boston they get 1 more year of not having to worry about maxing out their PG, they get younger which fits better with all their young talent theyre bringing in. Plus I think more people would feel more comfortable giving Kyrie the max over IT.
But I dont believe their contracts match up and I dont see either one of these teams dealing with someone in the conference especially since both teams are looked at as the #1 and #2 teams in the conference.

The Celtics are just fine with IT. Adding assets on top of that for Kyrie would be dumb. Kyrie is taller and younger than IT but that doesn't make him better. I'll take my chances with the 30ppg scorer who led his team to the ECF as the sole star of his team.

Rather have upset Kyrie for 2 years than Thomas for one then have to give him a max contract.

Had IT not been coming off of a hip injury and it were actually a possible trade then I think the Cavs might accept that. However IT is coming off an injury and this trade isn't possible anyways. Boston would need to include another 6.5 mill in salary for it to even be possible, and the only player they could include that would is Crowder, or Morris and Rozier, and that is just too much to give up for Boston.

Eh. He's fringe top 10.
Off the top of my head -
Jordan
Wilt
LeBron
Kareem
Shaq
Magic
Bird
Duncan
Russell
Olajuwan
Roberston
All have claim to be better than Kobe. Personally, Kobe would be 11th or 12th for me.
Oh stop. As if there will ever be a definitive list. All I know is Lebron's career will end with three rings, so keep thanking Durant for it...keep those hate threads coming
The reality is Lebron is fringe top 10. He's got too many losses, too many mental breakdowns in finals situations. And e's going to decline now, and as he declines people won't think so highly of him. It's just the way sports is. And why in the world would anyone put Lebron over Kareem or Magic? Let me guess, Lebron is better because he lost more, and ring chased. This is such a Lebron-forum.
There there guys, it will be ok. Keep pretending Lebron doesn't need to win more though to come close to the top 5. Even Barkley said Lebron isn't up there with Kobe yet, and Barkley pretty much hates Kobe.

It would be pretty pointless to resign him if Lebron books it. So wouldnt be nice to get a slight downgrade from Kyrie to IT for one year and make one more run at the title, then once Lebron leaves, let IT walk and you got 1 or 2 1st round picks or a 1st round pick and Jaylen Brown to start a rebuild around.

Cavs should rather try to get Bledsoe + possibly some other pieces from Phoenix.

If LeBron is leaving in a year I make Kyrie put up with LeBron for another year then let Kyrie be the man like he wants. Since it's much more likely LeBron is in Cleveland for awhile i'd need enough that the Celtics wouldn't be able to trade for another star to swap Kyrie and Thomas.

Re: Should / would Boston consider a Isaiah Thomas and Kyrie Irving trade?
I will be called a homer but I will say that Boston would not consider a straight swap, never mind having to add extra assets. Thomas was better last year and received the accolades to prove it with 2nd team All-NBA and 5th in MVP voting. Statistically Thomas was more efficient (PER, TS%, eFG) even though he received a higher defensive focus as teams focus to defend LeBron not Kyrie. They are both poor defenders and had the same DRtg, though Kyrie had a higher DBPM. But, clearly Thomas is the better offensive player as evidenced by a higher ORtg and BPM. The argument for contract is misleading as Thomas is making a lot less this year and Kyrie only truly has one more year on his contract. Both are likely to request/demand a max deal. Even if Thomas were to make 30 million the year after next, he would still make less money combined for the next two years (36 mill) than Kyrie on his current contract (39 mill). Finally, you have to add in how much Boston has invested into Thomas off the court in terms of team identity as he is the face of the franchise.
The argument for Kyrie devolves into age and height. The former is valid though Thomas has not shown of breaking down yet and is only 3 years older. The height argument has no value to be argued. Being taller has not made Kyrie a good defender which is te main knock on both of them.

Pfft, can't wait to see the 180 you pull if LeBron comes to town and brings the Lakers a ring or two. Your franchise really doesn't deserve him with all the super Kobe stans you have.
Btw, rings are not the end all be all of a player, you seemingly forget that. LeBron's game is one of the greatest ever, rings or not.

I thought Kyrie was in the perfect situation for his skillset been to multiple finals appearances...but if he wants to be the man so be it.....just hope he dont turn into Jamal Crawford...I feel he can be greater

How can Cleveland get a PG like Dragic, as well as a nice, young wing prospect for Irving?

UTA

I think Irving is overrated on this board. The necessary pieces like Crowder etc to balance the salaries would make it an overpay.

I thought the Clippers did that by trading Paul to Morey.

I meant that had Kyrie made it known he's wanted out for some time now, the Cavs would have floated the PG swap earlier rather than sit by

It actually makes sense for both sides.
Kyrie is younger and better than IT. Cleveland will be able to replace most of Kyrie's production and get another asset.
Boston shouldn't want to give IT a max contact anyway.
Kyrie for IT and the Lakers pick.

I can't blame Kyrie from leaving. Lebron is a prima donna and Lebron likes to pad stats at garbage minutes.
