Giannis would be dreaming about a coach at his level, instead of Doc Rivers.

But we have some claims here that Ioannis Sfairopoulos or Andrea Trinchieri are better coaches.

Let's just hope all the claims Spanoulis is a bad coach here are just trolling.

Wow, saying that Trinchieri is a bad coach(or not a great coach) is just as bad as saying Spanoulis is a bad coach.

I never said Trinchieri is a bad coach.

They were third in odds and some NBA players didn't even make their roster.

But it is true that this team might not be good. Are guys like Risacher and Coulibaly good? I know they play in the NBA, but that does not really make them good right now, they are young, they also players who were just role players on mid Euro teams year or two ago. Talented sure, but are they already good? We know guys like Francisco, Shengelia or Yabu are good, they are seasoned and proven, but this France has a lot of guys who are just starting to figure out stuff and it showed a bit. This is still an old mans game quite a bit.

The team construction was awful since the beginning, especially after they lost Strazel and then the last nail on the coffin was Sarr's injury of course.
Going to the euro with 2 true C, one of them being a rotation C in Euroleague and not at all a rim protector/mobile one, + no real backcourt defenders = you can't win anything.
Fautoux wanted a backcourt that could "create offense and its own points" so he selected guys like Okobo who can't D and has 1 move which is dribbling the air out of the ball until he tries an elbow mid-range.

Combination of both above factors resulted yesterday in at least 7 straight layups drives on half-court for the Georgians and 3pts chuck fest.

No other plan in offense than move the ball left and right in the backcourt until you launch a 3 with the 20th team in 3pts %.

Francisco was nice on this tournament, one of the only one to be able to penetrate and disturb defenses to open things a bit. Maledon could not hit a shot and it seemed that he had no specific directions to organize the game which is something he might be able to do for this NT.

To me the real issue that should have been addressed by the coach was the lack of hierarchy and the constant foul trouble.
Some guys were asked to pressure too much and to sacrifice themselves, resulting in silly hand fouls, forcing the coach to play them 2 to 3 minutes and then be sub again because they are in foul trouble.
You can't get any kind of rhythm when playing like this, which results in no confidence and shots not falling.

The coaching staff has carries the biggest part of responsibilities on this disappointing loss.

Maybe Fauthoux thought that Maledon was some kind of EuroLeague star or something, because he had numbers on ASVEL.

The thing is though, the best player on ASVEL could be like the 10th to 12th best player on Oly, PAO, Real, Barca..

Hopefully for their national programs, it won't be a fluke, like North Macedonia.

You're jinxing us. No one on Germany can guard Luka. He's capable of scoring 40 to 60 points which is mentally draining, as an opponent.

Since 1935, there has only been one 60 point game. Since it has already happened before, it's obviously possible, but that it happened once in thousands of games, should show what the odds of it happening are.

OT F1, but I am watching Monza GP and Max is driving first, while Tsunoda is last. Seriously WTF, I know red bull car is hard, but come on, we have never seen such disparity between teammates. Seems like there is only one man on earth who can drive that car or Max just seriously GOAT.

His current USG% is 41.1 and he plays some of the best defense he ever played, so I think it is good.

Daniel Theis, a guy who plays a lot, it is not 3 minute sample, but his current offensive rating is 153.8, and his defensive rating is 89.8.

That said, a lot of Germans have similar stats so far.

I don't think it will be. North Macedonia's success in 2011 was largely due to one player, Bo McCalebb. When it's just one guy, you aren't really able to grow a grassroots program that leads to sustained success. Finland and Georgia have multiple good players and they have also been working on their grassroots level for a long time now. It just seems more sustainable to me so I doubt it goes the same way it went for North Macedonia.

Listening to No Dunks today and they mentioned Finland scoring on Jokic with their 5-out, so I went back and watched the 4th quarter scores.

Almost every single field goal scored in the 4th was on Jokic. Jokic had that one block on Little and forced the miss on the Markannen drive, but the latter was a putback anyway. And he had 4 fouls to begin with.

Love that No Dunks cover Eurobasket. Jokic really struggled defensively, but Fins really singled him out because they wanted to tire him and just foul him out of the game.

I suppose at this point they're likely considered the strong favorite out of the 8 teams remaining, which is fair as they've been on a tear (mostly).

It's not inconceivable that either Greece or Turkey could beat them (or even a major upset by Luka and Slovenia), but I don't think anyone is going to be surprised if Germany wins it all.

And my prior post was tongue-in-cheek because it seems like a monthly tradition that "___________ has been exposed" thread pop up about various players or teams.

As this tourney has shown so far... there is no such thing as cruising... even GER got a big scare unil the 4th quarter..

It took 1/24 from 3 from good shooters for the game to be close, once 3P% adjusted it was a total blow out.

Exactly. As those who played ball here even in amateur/weekend tournaments can attest, there are some nights where every circus shot you take will go in and there are some nights where even your layups get vomited out. Who is to say what will happen in any given game.

So who knows if their game Schroeder might go 2-15 but his hero mentality forces him to chuck some more or maybe Luka goes 0-9 from 3pt land.

So who you picking for today's games, TUR-POL and LTU-GRE? Turkey seems like a clear favorite in the first game, but I have a feeling LTU-GRE will be a really close one, and I'm picking Lithuania.

If ya have to explain the joke, it isn't funny.

In hindsight, it sorta is but I missed it. Nice, tho.

However as Lithuanian, I've seen god tier performances from our team in the championships and then a choke job in the following games :).

Turkey vs Poland, looks like a Turkey going to semis. We also saw two Turkeys, the one vs Serbia and the one vs Sweden, if we are going to get an average of these, Turkey should take it.

Lithuania vs Greece...

I'd like to think that Sweeden game was a wake up call for us and the team will be ready to face Poland. It's exciting for us since it is our first quarter finals since 2009. I believe in Coach Ataman's experience and self trust will reflect to the players.

Finaldn vs. Georgia will be a fun one to watch since two upsetters face each other.

I am always an admirer to Lithuanian Basketball so even thoug Greece is the favourites, I'll be rooting for Lietuva anyhow.

My heart wants Poland vs Lithuania semis, but my head says it will be Turkey vs Greece.
