Actually last year's all star game was even worse. At least he is starting this year, last year he went all out as a reserve. I guess all star MVP is that important for somebody's CV huh. I think my avatar says everything.

Eh he has fun in these games. Not sure why you don't think he plays hard in all his games?

"That's not true" = "I don't think he plays extra hard in all star game just because he only has one motor regardless of situations, sometimes you need to take a couple of gears off because your season is on the line it's not worth going 120mph all the time. Providing entertainment value to the fans is one thing, you should also let the game come to you not to force anything especially like the all star game 2015 when you played as a reserve jacking up 28 shots which was almost equal to the starting backcourt Curry+Harden combined, in just 25 minutes."

if you aren't going to play defense for much of the entire game, then double PG just to prevent the record, that's kind of a dick move. Pop is a douche.

All-star games in all sports are an obsolete relic of the days before cable TV, satellite packages and online streaming. Back in the day, they were special because they were the only chance for the leagues to showcase all their stars for a nationwide audience.

Now, with the novelty factor long gone, there's no reason for any of them to exist anymore besides ad revenue for the networks. That's why we have boring-ass games like the one we just sat through. Honestly, I'd be fine with getting rid of All-Star Weekend entirely and just giving everyone a week off.

Somewhere Paul Westhead was watching the Western team and had to cross his legs to cover up his excitement.

I think the game would be fun if they took some of the more recent retirees and sprinkled them in.

The game was hard to watch, but everything else from the weekend was great, so I don't want them to drop it entirely.

This. x1000.

Does anyone actually seriously enjoy the ASG any more? It's not a contest, it's players we all see every single day, that are available worldwide. We can watch highlights packages of these players at the touch of a button.

It's antiquated, pointless and really holds no weight. The dunk contest and some of the other things can be fun - but there is simply no need for the ASG. I really can't understand how anyone can enjoy watching non-competitive basketball.

I stopped watching it this year completely, and i'm not even sad. 196-173 is a disgrace. I thought maybe kawhi-butler-green type of players coming in would make it more competetive but i was wroooong. I saw durant-green double teaming paul george off the ball just so he cant break the record and it was to me the end of ASG. They should just get rid off it now. Old records are pointless.

Players like Kobe Bryant are what makes the NBA great and having one last chance to see him in an AS game is far more important to the fans, and other players, than having a marginal AS player like Isiah Thomas in the game. Is' too bad you can't appreciate how significant something like this is to the game.

It's because he's a Celtics fan obviously lol

Uh no, I'd say say the same thing if Pierce and KG were voted in.

The West attempted 80 threes, WTF. Isn't that game supposed to be more about dunking than shooting? When even Westbrook takes 17 threes and has only 4 shots at the rim, you know nobody is taking this remotely seriously.

If the league wanna ban hack-a-player tatics, i think they should set a limit of 3s a team can make in a game.

Next season's ASG will be West 240: East 220

I didn't watch it either. and won't in the future...I knew it was going to be more no-defense BS...of all the major sports ASGs, the NBA All-Star game is the most boring and totally worthless...those of us who value defense know we aren't going to see ANY in the NBA ASG...I think unfortunately more of this kind of unbridled, undisciplined nonsense is going to turn more fans off to the game in the future. I'm a big-time fan, and it makes me cringe to watch it, even with my guy Paul George lighting it up.
It also confirms my belief that if the NBA is ever going to be more than an afterthought to the NFL and the college game (both FB and BB) it needs to get serious about reforming some rules to bring some defense back to the game...the hand-check ban, for just one example has been IMO a disaster...offenses have run amuck.

I know everyone always does the whole "back in my day thing", but seriously, it never used to be this bad. Even going back 5 to 10 years ago.

I was actually at the ASG this year. We all know that the ASG is a glorified practice of sorts with no defense. And I love all the guys in the game but the evolution of the emphasis on the three pointer actually makes a game like this unbearable.

When guys are being lazy and playing defense and then adding lazy to walk up to the three point line and jack a shot you actually make the game look bad. It's a trend to watch and could be worse in these games going forward.

Curry made a half court shot.

Damn, did he just pull up or was it just like a lob to beat the buzzer or something?

No one's put it up? Then here it is...

People don't get that players aren't going to risk hurting themselves playing hard if they don't have to, This years game got out of hand so the late lets get that win stuff didn't happen. Add to the fact that players are much better shooters nowadays, you will get these high scoring events. People need to stop expecting players to play like this game means anything. Its not the playoffs and it has no value beyond simple fun. The players themselves seem to enjoy themselves. You sticks in the mud are the only dudes who have this massive problem with the game. And for people who didn't watch it, you sure whine loudly about it.
