I guess based on this post people either loathe or love them.

Anyway, seeing as how they play Ottawa at least one Canadian team is guaranteed to advance.

Yeah. Leafs were winning in ancient era when there were only a few teams. Canadiens have a greater tradition of winning. Oilers' dominance and wins in the modern era just seems more impressive to me.

Leafs milked their rabid fanbase and rested on their laurels without trying to build a winning team for decades. They are the richest team in hockey. like Knicks or Lakers, just prints money regardless of losing seasons. And the owners never made a serious effort at building a team. It was always a gimmick hire at coach or big name trade or free agency to keep fan interest but not real team building. Fan base finally got sick of it and in the last 15 years the owners have attempted to build proper way. But they've lost me. I'm cynical. Something is lacking with these teams. It's like heart or the ability to shine in big moments.

They won't impress me until they win one.

I'm always down for laughing at the leafs...they are what people accuse Knicks fans of being...but the 60s were two decades after the end of WWII.

It's way closer to WWII than it is to 2025!

How can he be robbed when the award is completely based on stats. Hart wasn't even in the top 5.

Just riffing on the description: "The award honors a player who makes the effort plays that do not often appear in the box score but help determine team success."...having a completely stat based award with that description seemed silly to me.

They've been even less successful than the knicks since their titles, which were longer ago, despite the NHL not having a salary cap for a long time...but a much bigger chunk of their fanbase is still entitled in a way that has been beaten out of most of us, despite being the "mecca" of our sport as well.

So I get laughing at the Leafs sense of self importance, but we can do so without validating Leafs' fans persecution complex.

They do have an entertaining team. they just don't have the "stuff" to get over the hump. I heard about their choke jobs in recent years. It just shows a lack of the intangibles on the team.

Yeah, they're like a not-quite-as good or tough (mentally or physically) version of the avs. A lot of talent but just not enough to be one of the best of the best, especially with way the NHL handicaps skilled teams in the playoffs.
