If the Pelicans were to become a winning franchise, then no one would have a problem with the name.

It's like people used to hate on the name OKC Thunder but i don't hear anyone complaining about the name anymore.

Same with my team the Knicks. We were named after freakin' pants! I'm sure it didn't get such a great reception back in the day but the Knicks became a proud franchise, well at least before Dolan took over.

Winning solves everything!

The Pelicans name is starting to grow on me. I do like the logo, but it would have been nice if they avoided the "angry" mascot. The colors are also uninspiring. Too many red/blue teams in the NBA. I really like the UCLA style colors in the mock jerseys a few posts back.

I hope the gold is a dominant color in the Pelicans jerseys.

Honestly, they could be called the baby rapists for all I care, I'm just glad Hornets is available to come to its rightful home. It's certainly no worse a name than Bucks, Nets, Pacers, or Wizards. Honestly, the whole league is pretty much dumb names that have grown on people.

The colors look like Cav's ripoffs, so I'm not crazy about it but they look fine.

People dropping "Carolina Flight" as a new name for the Bobcats, please stop. How am I supposed to cheer on a team named 'Flight?' "C'mon Flight! Get a **** rebound Flight! Play some damn defense, Flight!" It's a mode of freakin' transportation.

Gayle Benson, Benson's wife, told Fox Sports New Orleans recently her preference for new team colors was navy blue, red and gold.

Well that explains it. P-whipped owner = lame colors.

These Color are uninspiring since they are pretty much the same as the Cavaliers and on top of that too many teams already use Red and Blue.

The Jazz name ORIGINALLY made lots of sense. Same goes for the Lakers, originally they were in Minneapolis, nicknamed City of Lakes. Magic is inspired by Walt Disney World. There weren't many choices for Orlando, basically Mouseketeers or Magic lol, and one is copyrighted.

I've been a fan of the name and am really happy they stuck with it. Pelicans are underrated as birds and a name.

I dont understand how the league approves something with Blue and Red, but not BLACK and Red. I cant think of any teams but the Nets and Spurs where the black really stands out.

Gold and Black would have very nice. I am also happy they went with the same gold as the saints.

Still don't like the name, but appreciate the choice given its ties to the area. Very cool colours and logo.
