Out of curiosity, how tall do you think Embiid is, barefoot?

Joel Embiid is seven feet and two inches tall.

Barefoot?

Joel Embiid Told Brett Brown He’s 7’2” Now

Brett Brown wrote:I get a text from Joel a few weeks ago in the middle of the night that said: ‘Guess how tall I am.’ And so I guessed seven-foot. Two minutes later he texts back ‘You’re wrong, I’m 7’2″.’ I text back ‘How do you know this?’ He texts back ‘Doctors. I’m 7’2″ in sandals.’ And when you stand next to him, when you’re around big men you understand the difference between seven-foot and seven-two, and he is 7’2″.

Kristaps Porzingis was 7'1.25 in his socks. Do you think Embiid is taller than 7'1 without his famous sandals? I think he's 7'2 the same way Kristaps is 7'3... aka, adding the media friendly extra 1.5 to two inches that all teams like to do. Do with that whatever you will :dontknow:

I don't know, do I? Sandals definitely add less height than basketball sneakers, the only height that matters.

Point is, Philly had a bunch of national games last year and they all used his measurement from the draft. He grew two inches after that.

I need them to correct their error, that's all.

Maybe he did, color me skeptical though. Every team claims their star grew two inches... and maybe they did, and maybe that's why I can't tell the difference. Our guys pump Davis' height up all the time. He'll be 7'4 by the time he turns 27.

Fascinating. You seem to be suggesting that player heights are a matter of headcanon and not subject to official rulings.

Very interesting, indeed. I look forward to your fanfic version of the 17/18 season where every player is 8 inches shorter than their listed height.

Oh, “official ruling” as in “heard it from the team beat writer on twitter.” As if teams and local guys have no interest in propping up players to create excitement when the team is tanking and their stud prospect is riding the bench for two seasons with injuries.

Nah, I like to go with the measurements that happen in front of a ton of people(the combine) because the ones from both college and pro teams, and from the players themselves always vary wildly, and fans, teams and players have way more of an agenda than the rulers do. Players can grow. But most don’t grow another 2-3 inches after the draft.

But since you’re suggesting Embiid is taller than Porzingis, I guess that makes it so, even though he, you know, isn’t. Maybe Porzingis also grew 2 inches though.

Also, all smart assyness aside, I bet measurements vary a lot depending on the person, because I doubt some of the people measuring even hold the tape in the same spots and such. There seems to have been a lot of discrepancies with standing reach at the combine.

Getting back on topic, I can’t wait to see which teams favorite prospect gets the first “has grown 2 inches, and gained 20 pounds of muscle!” Thread next summer

If mkg, Batum,Marvin, or frank is out for an extended period of time Miles Bridges will get opportunities. I am confident in his ability to produce right off the bat.

You all are sleeping on Harry Giles. The dude is going to pair with Bogdanovic on the pick and roll or the high ball screen and start the redshirt debate all over again.

He may not win because no one watches Sac but he will be among if not the top rookie.

I certainly hope he's in the convo. I really want Harry to do well, kid has been through a ton as far as basketball setbacks go.

I’m excited for Knicks fans. Gonna be watching some MSG games cause their rookies interest me.. I wonder if Philly would have taken Knox if e had dropped to them?

I think Miles Bridges seems a lot like Tobias Harris to me.

I'm not sure if Doncic is going to have the most gaudy stats in his first year or the best teammates to make a roty prediction, but I think he'll ultimately be the best player in the draft, and I especially think the Kings severely messed up by passing on him. I don't see anything particularly special in Fox, he seems like a 2nd tier starting PG at best. Doncic seems to me like a top tier creator, efficient 18-20/8/9+ player. He has all the skills of a SF and a PG. He's got the footwork, the change of direction, the touch around the basket and the high post, good shooting mechanics, and legit top-level PG skills at 6'8 220+. I would absolutely shocked if he didn't become a perennial all-star. There's no way, in today's game no less, that Bagley or Ayton can have a greater impact than Doncic if assumed they all fulfill their potential and projections. They're not playmakers, they're not elite defenders, they're players who can score and rebound. That's nothing compared to be a good scorer, and more importantly, create for others on an elite level. Skill rules the day, players with Doncic's athleticism or worse, have made big impacts before, and that's enough for me to conclude he'll be great because he has the makings of having every skill in the book.

I will go with Doncic. I think he's a guy that's going to step in and immediately be the court leader on the Mavs and that will get recognition. Somewhat like Jason Kidd for the same Mavs way back when.

Ayton or another player might get the stats but Doncic will change the tone of that franchise.
