Needs to be corrected, because there are some people in society who really believe it's possible when in fact it's not even close to being possible.

And it really disrespect/ignores just how good even the end of bench guys or guys who get invited the training camp but are cut within a week. Guys who this board consider to be "scrubs". You have to be an UNBELIEVABLY good basketball player to get invited to an NBA training camp, even if you're one of the guys who gets cut the first week.

These "scrubs" absolutely would WIPE THE FLOOR against the best women's players in history .........and it would be the same for soccer, hockey or basketball.

Name a random scrub who got cut 5 years ago from an NBA training camp. Unless that guy is now totally out of shape or physically crippled, he'd destroy Elena Delle Donne or Diana Taurasi or any other woman who's ever played basketball.

If she could play in the NBA, she would play in the NBA.

She isn’t playing in the NBA. That’s your answer.

I won't say that no woman will ever play in the NBA but I seriously doubt any of the current WNBA will be the one to break that wall down. Quickness, strength, height all play a factor - the right woman may some day appear.

Nobody. The Williams sister got destroyed by a no-namer in Tennis:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Sexes_(tennis)#1998:_Karsten_Braasch_vs._the_Williams_sisters

1998: Karsten Braasch vs. the Williams sisters

Another event dubbed a "Battle of the Sexes" took place during the 1998 Australian Open between Karsten Braasch and the Williams sisters. Venus and Serena Williams had claimed that they could beat any male player ranked outside the world's top 200, so Braasch, then ranked 203rd, challenged them both. Braasch was described by one journalist as "a man whose training regime centered around a pack of cigarettes and more than a couple of bottles of ice cold lager".

The matches took place on court number 12 in Melbourne Park, after Braasch had finished a round of golf and two shandies. He first took on Serena and after leading 5–0, beat her 6–1. Venus then walked on court and again Braasch was victorious, this time winning 6–2.

Braasch said afterwards, "500 and above, no chance". He added that he had played like someone ranked 600th in order to keep the game "fun" and that the big difference was that men can chase down shots much easier and put spin on the ball that female players can't handle. The Williams sisters adjusted their claim to beating men outside the top 350.

That story is pretty hilarious and epic

And non pc, but most importantly factual. Men and women are different and that's not only OK, it's actually a good thing, despite what our Marxist Gender Studies 101 professor tries to tell us.

To make an NBA team, a player (male or female) does not need to be the best jumper or strongest rebounder or best shot-blocker. To make an NBA team, some players fill in a niche. We have seen male players that were shorter than some of the females in the WNBA. We have seen male players that have been derided for their lack of quickness. The one attribute every NBA offense needs is people that can hit an open three. I suspect there are women that might now or will soon be able to meet that need. The same is true of ball handling. Jokic is derided for his lack of quickness but he plays point-center and does a decent job. He's not the best point in the league, he's just different. It's conceivable that a woman could do just as well at ball handling/starting the offense. I don't see that woman --- yet.

The biggest problem for any WNBA player wanting to make the NBA will be on the defensive end. The first woman in the NBA will undoubtedly be a guard (but you never know). That woman will need to be able to maintain lateral quickness and be able to fight through picks and do a reasonable job when switched onto a forward (hopefully not a center). But this is an area that some men struggle with also.

As I said, she'd need enough quickness to move laterally on defense and strong enough to fight through picks and defend in the low post (because some guards are good at low post offense) and she'll probably need to be over 6' --- then again, we've had more than a couple men that were well under 6' that played quite well.

Whether you are speaking of WNBA or Olympics or any other athletic endeavor, women have made great strides in increasing their abilities - in some sports, they have closed the very wide difference when compared to men.

I'll challenge you to use critical thinking, logic and reason to explain why it would be impossible for any woman to ever make the NBA.

P.S. I'm not so certain the NFL will ever see a woman play offensive tackle though.

Its easier to throw a smaller ball into the same size basket. I'm not saying you give Della Donne an NBA sized ball she would shoot in the 60s, but without a doubt it gives a boost to the percentage by some degree.

Why do people always jump to the NBA with questions like this? How about starting with a lower level professional league first? Even if you want to keep it NBA centric, we should be asking about the G-League first. You should be asking about a top division 1 team first even. You answer those questions and it answers the NBA question.

Men and women are different, athleticism matters at a minimum level. The unathletic NBA player is a super elite athlete for his height in the WNBA. Women don't have the bone structure or muscle mass to be quick, fast, strong, etc enough at 6'4 to 6'5 in order to be able to keep up with NBA players.

Defensively she can't guard anyone. Offensive shots that used to be open shots are now contested. Contested shots are now heavily contested or getting blocked. Drives would be impossible, rotations are coming too fast compared to the WNBA even if she gets by the first defender.

Didn't read through, but I'm not really sure what you guys discussed for 10 pages. It definitely helps to understand talent levels when you've played with more levels of basketball players.

You have to reach a minimum level of physical ability, strength and size. The women who might have good enough speed and quickness, etc are just too small, the ones with the size just aren't athletic enough.

There'd be zero positions in the NFL suitable for a woman, not even kicker or punter. Baseball? Nope, hitting requires speed and power. Hockey? There was a Canadian goalie who tried to play men's professional hockey and failed miserably:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manon_Rhéaume - check out her Goals Against Average playing in the women's leagues, something around 2.0 which is very good, on the men's side it's like 4 or 5 goals against per game, more than double lol. And this was a position where you just have to move sideways a couple of feet each way.

NBA? No chance. Jokic is not only a smart player with good skills but he's got good agility and brute strength as well, there's no way Big Bertha will ever have his combination of size, strength, agility and skill. Elena Donne, Lisa Leslie or Cheryl Miller wouldn't even make a men's Division 2 team imo.

ehh, not to sound too insensitive, but it's not a hard decision, they're more than welcome to identify as they please and I respect that, but that doesn't mean we have to warp reality and millions of years of evolution to accommodate it. plastic surgery and hormone adjustments don't change the fact that biological males are born with different bone density, muscle mass, different cell and skeletal structures, etc.

and again, allowing biological males to participate in women competitions only undermines the biological women themselves who have been working their entire lives at that particular sport.

this is a new study which explains it further:

"Science demonstrates that high adult levels of testosterone, as well as permanent testosterone effects on male physiology during in utero and early development, provides a performance advantage in sport and that much of this male physiology is not mitigated by the transition to a transwoman," she says.

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/07/190723092111.htm

Ya I don't think it's a hard decision at all. Should a man be able to transition and compete in women's mma? I don't think that is a tough question at all, absolutely not. It's not just an unfair competitive advantage in a sport like MMA, you're putting women at serious risk. Other sports like basketball, tennis, soccer and so on, there is no major physical risk (on the same level as a physical sport like MMA). But there is a reason sports are separated by gender, there is a clear biological gap physically and athletically. Just because someone identifies a certain way, it doesn't change their biological advantages. Even when they take the hormones, it doesn't make it an even competition.

This is why I said that i'm glad I have nothing to do with making these decisions. I respect transgender rights, but if you asked me if a transgender man should get in the ring with a cis man at the same weight class in a boxing match or MMA fight I would say hell no. And I think this is a conversation that needs to be had in terms of sports and the inclusiveness of transgender athletes. We have to acknowledge and accept physical differences between genders regardless of what people identify as because we have conclusive data and evidence that says that outside of certain sports, men have an advantage over women in terms of strength and athleticism. I hope that it can be done in a way that is respectful to all parties involved.

Because men are biologically stronger, faster and more athletic than women. That is not offensive, that is a fact. Science does not care about our feelings. If we begin to put political correctness above factual correctness then we are doomed as a society.
