They are in denial that we have a problem. It's so hard to get tested. Pretty much all businesses are still open.

The United States has a death rate of 1.4%, which is close to South Korea level. That is very impressive for the United States considering how few tests have been done. More tests would mean the death rate would be much lower. That is a bit of good news, but we have to continue with the social distancing. We are into our 2nd week of it and you usually don't see results until 2 or 3 weeks after the fact.

I agree with him 100%. I think sometime in the middle of May we might look at where we are. I expect all of April will be spent inside for most of us.

Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro says coronavirus crisis is a media trick
Far-right president has resisted strong measures to stop spread of what he calls a ‘little flu’

“The people will soon see that they were tricked by these governors and by the large part of the media when it comes to coronavirus,” Bolsonaro said, as his own health officials announced 25 deaths and 1,546 cases of coronavirus in Brazil.

The people living in the favelas are pretty young in terms of median age of population, so hopefully it doesn't do that much damage.

Most of the data outside of NY is kind of useless. NY is actually lower at 0.75%. That's about what I would expect as long as the healthcare system is not overloaded.

The issue in NY is going to be hospitalizations - they just started releasing the data 3 days ago:

So far it's:

1,603 - 3/21
1,974 - 3/22
2,635 - 3/23

That's completely unsustainable if it continues even short while longer.

Keep in mind that we have poor data because of limited testing, but as of this post....

351,731 Confirmed Cases
100,430 Full Recoveries
15,374 confirmed deaths

Current fatality rate is at 4.37%

That's a horrible high rate

That fatality rate is definitely not accurate lol

There is hundreds of thousands who are infected but haven’t been tested and are still alive with mild to no symptoms .

Keep in mind the fatality rate for closed confirmed cases 14% have died vs 86% recovered. So the rate probably will be over 5% even taking into account those that aren't tested.... Which is horrible

I'm usually pretty half glass full kind of guy, but I think we (the United States) are totally going to bungle this.

They're converting the Javits center into a hospital, the issue in NY will be ventilators, but there's talk of doubling up on them.

Read on Twitter

Ventilators will be our biggest hurdle, the only positive for now is that hospitalizations are going down in percentage (13%).

To be clear that is the CASE FATALITY RATE. By definition it's accurate (other than reporting errors).

It's not the INFECTION FATALITY RATE, which is much harder to estimate (and can not be directly measured like the CFR)

NY is lower because they have have been provided more tests than any other state. I imagine the real death rate is much lower than even the 0.75%. That is very good compared to many other nations. Like I said, even the reported death rate is on par with South Korea, widely considered the Gold Standard.

Only time will tell. We can really only control what is in front of us with the social distancing. Not everyone will do it, but I think as a whole this country has done a good job.

FEMA is distributing 8 million N95 masks and 13.3 million surgical masks, with NY and Washington getting a larger share of them. That is great news as masks are something that is badly needed on the front lines.

Yeah he wasn't there yesterday either. Kind of disappointing because he's been the main reason I watch these.
