What a world...
This rule isn't in place because of sex between two consenting parties. It's in place to stop situations like Isiah Thomas who end up costing the team $11m. If you let Ime slide the next time someone tries this maybe the woman (or man) isn't so receptive. Then you have a major problem. If you cut it off at the source you (hopefully) stop the really bad stuff before it happens.
Correct. To go a step further, if the Celtics know about their relationship and it wasn’t because of transparency in the part of the participants, then IT IS ALREADY A WORKPLACE ISSUE. This is not an action you take unless their relationship is influencing the environment at work. Clearly it is because they are aware in the first place.
They are left with no choice here. Even the appearance of impropriety is enough.

my guess is that they kept this on the low instead of disclosing it to HR.

Celtics do not care that Udoka cheated; in a workplace, you can't use your power to sleep with subordinates but why suspend him for a year and then bring him back?
1) very attractive women can be as annoying/abusive/dumb as everyone else. if you're with someone for years and you lose emotional attraction to them you will lose physical attraction as well. ex. Imagine meeting a very hot woman who you later find out is extremely racist. Don't you think that person would become far less attractive over time (obviously this is an extreme example).
2) men are really really stupid in the sense that they are controlled by biological urges. Ex. the 100,000,000+ times men have impregnated women they would have no interest in dating/marrying
3) relationships fizzle out. it doesn't matter how attractive either party is. physical attraction only goes so far

She’s still fine, but she’s not fine-fine. She’s 50-fine.
And they were together for 12 years or so. At some point, human nature starts to kick in. (We also don’t even know their relationship status)
On the flip side, the staffer he was involved with is actually married! And it’s to the guy she went to high school with.
“Human nature starts to kick in”
Lol what a trash post. As if marriages have some secret expiration date.
Moreover, some men just shouldn’t get married. Ever. Simple as that.

Uh, they do. Hence why more than 50% of them end in divorce — and I’m sure another large percent stays together because they’re basically forced to (kids, cost of divorce, tied finances).
Most people shouldn’t get married.
I only know a handful of people who are still married who I’ve known longer than 5 years.

Insanity.
There is DEFINATELY more to the story.
Boston would not go to this extreme if there wasn't real/credible and detrimental allegations.
RIP Bostons season.

You really should stop. The divorce rate has never been over 50%, peaked in 1982 (at something under 50%), and has generally been declining for the last 40 years. I can’t speak to how the pandemic years have gone (I haven’t examined the data), but generally speaking the entire foundation of your premise for marriage having an expiration date is wrong.

Hopefully people will learn that actions have consequences.
With that said they better ban miles bridges for life.

Re: Udoka in trouble?
This is extremely bizarre. Yeah workplace relationships can be tricky and potentially inappropriate but if it’s two consenting adults? Unless there’s more to the story this seems very excessive

This response is so naive & ignorant, that’s its not even worth responding to.
How can any person currently living think that divorce rates are LOWER now in the age of social media, dating apps & no-fault divorce?
Absolutely silly.

Re: Udoka in trouble?
Typically work place relationships are okay if one person isn't in a position of power over another or has the potential to be. I don't know what the Celtics upper management structure looks like, but if Ime was having a relationship with anyone on the team's staff that's a big no-no.

That actually isn’t the takeaway I’m hoping for. There’s a REASON these people risked it all. And I’d bet it can be traced back to some mental health issues. I’m hoping the lesson is more about us asking WHY these things happen in the first place, instead of just reverting to “men can’t control themselves”.

When I first read Woj's tweet, i thought he had assaulted Grant Williams. One year is pretty nuts based on the surface of this.

And yet, not only did you respond, but you did so incorrectly. Instead of actually LOOKING AT THE DATA for marriage rates and divorce rates, you doubled down. I’ve studied the marriage and divorce rates for years and the data is as easy to find as 5 minutes in a search bar.
To answer you question: simply because people are marrying later, with more to lose and are being much more careful about getting married in the first place.
This will be my final comment on this as it’s silly to argue something so easily disproven with actual data, and not anecdotes like “I don’t hardly know anyone who has been married longer than 5 years”.
