OKC is tied for the best record in the west. SGA is like 5 years older than Chet and only turns 26 this summer.

Theo Maledon was getting stats on an awful OKC team. If you don't understand that stats are going to be lower on a good team, you don't understand basketball. - Also, Chet doesn't seem to be a stat chaser.

People, these guys are both at the beginning of their careers. Chill the eff out. Houston, congrats on getting Sengun. He's a great player. But these takes are a joke.

OKC, congrats on getting Chet. He's a great fit with this OKC team. His stats won't be on the level with Wemby, and maybe not Sengun, but he's perfect for what OKC does and maximizes their chance at a title.

In answer to the question, I'd rather have Chet. I think he's a better defender, and I value his floor spacing more. But I wouldn't be upset about getting either guy.

Edit: And to all the people who say OKC could have had both. No, they couldn't have. If they had taken Sengun, there's no way they would have gotten the #2 pick in the draft to take Chet.

Yea, they should think about the fact that any team would take Chet right now. It doesn't matter who he is playing with currently. He is a blue chip prospect regardless. Not that Sengun is bad or anything, I'd happily take him as well.

Wanted to bump this after missing the game but watching the highlights with Alpy putting up 45pts 16rebs 3asts on Wemby

Alpy is doing phenomenal as a number one option, he doesn't have the same luxury as Chet who relies on SGA taking pressure off him.

Yep, I prefer the skillset of Chet, but just like with Wemby over Chet nothing is fully set in stone despite whoever got the best recent news here. Everyone can improve, its a matter of who wants it the most, some circumstances, timings/opportunities etc, despite physical advantages of Wemby to Chet or Chet to Sengun.. and it goes both ways as Wemby will not be able to move as fluidly as Sengun without truly elite gym trainers/work/knowledge etc. Will be fun to see the future battles.

Being over reactionary is seemingly in human nature, and I catch myself on it a few times as well. The future is unwritten. Maybe Wemby gets injured, gets complacent, Sengun grinds every day and seeks knowledge like a madman obsessed, and finds the perfect balance of post playmaking, post scoring and spacing/attacking off the dribble at an elite scoring volume and playmaking? A more athletic Jokic? Who the heck knows, but that sounds like someone that can be better than Wemby and Chet to me, even if he can probably never be as good/impactful defensively because of his lack of length, you gotta work with what you got and a lot of performance is mentality, team play and making the best out of your skillset (Jokic) so nothing is 100 % certain despite homer takes here and there, mine included.

Do you have any stats to support your assertions here?

From his rookie year to this year, these are his advanced stats on defense (Per basketball reference):

Defensive Win Shares: 1.3, 1.8, 3.2. (Good for 9th in the league, just below Chet, just above Wemby)
Defensive BPM: 0.6, 0.4, 1.8 (Good for 14th in the league, exact same as Chet, just above Gobert)

His VORP is 3.3; which is good for 17th in the league, above both Chet and Wemby.

So, explain exactly how he's a "Novelty" again?
