This is just PR to try and justify the trade, we all know its BS.

The Mavs are in for a rough period with there ownership & GM.

Couldn't you post this in the one of the other 17 Luca trade threads?

Dallas is probing to be the most classless organization in the league. What a strange way to treat your fanbase

Luka literally just took the team to the finals and has been a perennial all-NBA player. This is nothing like Zion.
I agree, it's all just spin. Mavs' owners didn't want to pay that next contract but also wanted to stay competitive in the present.

It’s a legit gripe, but not one to trade him for peanuts. I really hope this motivates him and he does get ripped.

LMAO.

Just wait. That team is FINISHED.

No. AD, Kyrie, Lively, Washington, Thompson is too good of a squad and works.

Not saying I think Luka will become Zion, but I do wonder if he'll ever reach an even higher level or if he won't become more mortal.

Luka going to the Lakers just gives me Mbappe finally going to Real vibes.

This is not a good example brother. It's obvious Mbappe doesn't look as good because he went from competing in a mediocre league (France) to arguably the best one in the world (Spain). It's obvious he would not look as good.

Luka is staying in the same league and joining a team with the exact same calibre of help surrounding him. He WILL be the key man because he's a top 5-10 NBA player based on his appearances this season and top 3 in most of his recent seasons. Lebron and Kyrie roughly equal at this age as 1B's. Role players average on both teams. Luka's just gonna Luka. First fat, then he'll drop some as he plays, then he'll drop some more this summer. Just like that.

Everyone's going to say "but you weren't sure he'd do that" but I am sure he will and you wouldn't bet against it. I am also 100% sure that a mental health professional could have sorted his conditioning issues for Dallas - it's not that big a deal to fix, you just can't hope the person does it on their own sometimes. It's common knowledge. You don't have to trade him for 36 year old AD and a useless pick.

You can downplay the ligue 1 titles PSG won, but Mbappe dominated at the CL and NT levels as well, and he's just has not been at that same level the past couple years, which is why even the French NT can't rely on him like they used to. He could get back there...the ability hasn't gone, but the fire to make the most of that ability isn't there anymore.

That's why this isn't about the level of competition, this is about Mbappe feeling he doesn't have anything left to prove and it's ok for him to ditch his team to go partying in sweden. Luka hasn't won as much as Mbappe, which is the main difference, but if Luka wasn't as hungry to win as Kylian when they first came up, that may not be that meaningful.

Not trying to justify the trade and I don't care if Luka has a dad-bod, just my gut reaction to this trade was similar to Mbappe finally going to Real.

I don't watch football anymore, but fact of the matter is French League is just easier than Spanish league. Just ranked a bit lower. I don't support either of them. I'm not against either of them. That's an easier league. He probably benefitted from the easier games.

So just based on that you should expect Mbappe to not perform as well. The stress and competition for minutes is higher.

It's a different thing. I'm sure Luka is happy to be in LA, I don't think it has much to do with him though.

It is absolutely a legit gripe, and we discussed it a lot on the Mavs board, but the character assassination he's going through by the likes of Windhorst and MacMahon just screams how classless this FO is.
While he can be better and he did miss crucial games due to injuries caused by his conditioning, what he provided to the franchise very few players in history provided in a similar time frame.
Just shameless to put these things out there, and hint them in a press conference.

Not going to defend a person who can't stay in shape when they play a sport that should require you to stay in shape.

I gained 40 pounds during Covid. If I can lose that weight with no trainers or chef then these guys have no excuses.

Get in shape your job literally requires you to stay in shape.

Luka and Zion get no sympathy from me. They are just lazy and immature. Maybe a change of scenery will help both get in shape.

1. The Mavs didn't get enough and basically gave Luka away.

2. Luka is a younger version of James Harden and won't be winning a title at any point because he doesn't take care of himself and he plays no defense. His lack of taking care of his body will catch up with him as he ages and this will be his peak.

Those are not mutually exclusive opinions to have.

This take is mutually exclusive with being smart.

Mavs are just following the franchise tradition of trading HOF/All-Star PGs in their prime.

Kidd was the first "big 3" to be traded, when everybody expected him to be kept.
Nash was gone, because Mavs chose Dampier over him.
Brunson was gone, because they didn't sign an extension.
Now it's Luka's turn.

Fair enough lol. But I wonder if Luka is dysfunctionally competitive enough to continue getting better or if he will be another Mbappe, who peaked in his early 20s when he reached the top and no longer felt like he had to prove he was a magician. Especially now that he's gunna be living in LA.

Mbappe is about the same age as Luka and is still arguably the a top 3 striker in the world, many would argue he's the best

I mean, if that's him not trying to get better..any team would be happy to have a world class player

Besides, I don't buy into Luka not being competitive or competitive enough. he may not be professional enough but that's different than competitiveness

Dude Mbappe and Luka aren't even in the same situation. Mbappe went to a team where their attacking trio all play at their best from the left side flank as their starting point. Is it a coincidence that Mbappe has been beasting whenever Vini has been out?

Luka is going to be the main offensive hub on this team Lebron will play a lot more off ball. In theory this duo is gonna be great.

Fact of the matter is ever since the Bilbao game where he missed the penalty Bappe has been clear the best player along with bellingham for a good while now.

Vini will probably be on the move.

And bappe not playing with the natonal team is clearly because he refused to play in that crap friendly tournament Nations league.

Bappe has had like 22 goals or something in all competitions and we're half way through the season. He's fine.

Yeah, he could've. But where's the fun in that?

I'm laughing at how the 'reasons' for trading him are getting more and more outrageous. I'm thinking the Mavs' will float rumors that he's gonna get deported soon.

Yeah the Mavs FO and the media has been gaslighting viewers. Today I heard Brad Daugherty in the Cavs broadcast say both the Lakers and Mavs benefited from this trade.

Luka is 270lbs
Conditioning concerns
Defense wins championships

Keep em coming with these BS reasons.

Lol.

5 time first team ALL-NBA. Scoring champion. Averages 31, 9, and 8 in the playoffs. Highest career scoring average in the current league. Led team to finals last season. Absolutely destroyed the favorite Suns to make the WCF.

At 25 years of age. Not even in his damn prime.

All these BS narratives are being used to convince us that a truth is actually a lie and a lie is actually a truth. The propaganda machinery is in full flow. This eerily reminds me of narratives Israel has used against Palestinians to grab their lands and commit horrific crimes against them, and still be consider the suffering party. And lo and behold the new owners of Mavs are hardcore Zionists. The tactics are being recycled.

Lmao, how deranged do you have to be to bring up the Palestine situation in a thread about Luka Doncic.

I mean these aren’t made up narratives whatsoever.

Everyone ripped Luka in the Finals last year for his lazy defense, for being out of shape, complaining to the refs etc. He was out of shape.

These are all legit criticisms. Just not legit enough to actually trade him.
