This was definitely made by a GM who is starting to feel the pressure lol. I like Bane though but I hope there’s another move in the works to still get a PG. Hopefully Suggs can get healthy but keeping him, AB, & now getting Bane is not a bad, young trio. They need to make another move for a PG & draft a cheap center to round things out.

Four firsts on the basis seems a lot, but one of them is our pick in this years draft, which we would otherwise presumably be using on a guy who isn't going to be seeing much time on the floor, and 2 of them are in 2028/2030 where we would still (hypothetically) have Franz/Paolo playing at a super high level.

Completely understand as to why some may balk at the “four firsts” headline but I think this is an excellent move. Maybe I’m just delighted that we finally made a trade. Who knows?

Completely agree. Instead of just a knee jerk reaction of "4 1sts", people should think about what those picks actually amount to. It's the #16 and likely 3 picks in the 20s. Magic still have their pick in '26 and '27 with a core built around a 22, 23 and 26 year old. This was a solid move for them.

All of those players and picks combined don't equal AD alone. And then a young 2-way wing like Max Christie on top of that. Gimme a break.

In theory. Sadly NBA trades aren’t like real estate. Much more volatile market. It ain’t what a player is worth it’s what you can get. Think of it more like poker. Who’s got chips and can you draw them out. Memphis found a whale.

It really feels like this trade was a reach. The Magic's grasp may have exceeded their reach. I think they short armed this trade. I'm not sure they armed themselves with enough knowledge to properly assess this trade against the long arm of time.

Orlando couldn’t afford another max contract player. So, this is probably the best option outside of an all star.

However, I HATE that the Phoenix pick swap next year was included. That’s 90% a lottery pick.

Teams are playing for 2030’s when a new CBA will probably be more lax than what it is currently.

The market is basically set now

Obviously, everyone's opinion in here is just an opinion, but don't act like this isn't a risky trade by the Magic. GM's lose their jobs by overpaying like this.

Oh I know it is. I also think they overpaid for Bane but I respect the aggressiveness from the FO to at least show life and attempt to go all in.

Bane slots in super well. Literally all my man is gonna have to do in Orlando is shoot 3s.

Feels like an overpay but I'm not whining.

With 25 NBA teams with playoff ambitions, looking to add talent, expect high prices as teams try to outbid each other.

Buckle up for more expensive trades this summer!

Two of the picks being framed as unprotected is a bit shaky lol. 16th pick this year (we have 25).

Next year's pick is the most interesting because it can be great, or Phoenix can just be middling and be meh. It's unprotected but not our own in a sense.

The ones to watch will be in 2028 and 2030.

To me though, if the Magic fail to compete in the next 4 years, they'll be trading one or two of Franz/Paolo/Suggs for a haul anyway.

Bane is also on a deal the next 4 years which is an underrated aspect (compared to the Mikal deal or Gobert needing to be extended.)

I think people are overreacting here. This reminds me of the thread when Brunson signed with the Knicks and everyone was going off.

Picks tend to be very overrated. I think people in general need to go back 15-20 years and sift through the draft picks for a couple decades. See how many picks are just nothing. If it's not in the top 5-10 it's a complete crapshoot. The major swing factor here is where does that Phoenix pick end up. I don't have a good feel for what they're going to do. I don't think they'll blow it all the way up, but I could be wrong, and do we know how Booker feels? I haven't heard. If that pick ends up high in the lottery, this may hurt.

Otherwise you have Paolo (22 years old) - Bane (26) - Franz (24) - Suggs (24) and Anthony Black who I liked a lot when they picked him and this *should* be a very good team for several years. So their own picks should be late, which makes them much less valuable.

Plus last year they were dead last in 3 pt FGM, and 3 pt FG%. Bane is going to help there quite a bit. This team was BOTTOM 3 in points per game, and still managed to be .500. If they can get to just .... average offense, and stay a problem on defense, they just improved quite a bit. Imagine, still being able to win half your games while being dead last as a shooting team in this era.

*EDIT* Also in a year where it felt like everyone they had got hurt

I feel like Orlando definitely overpaid…I’d have tried to turn Cole into Coby White and kept my ammo for someone else…but I like Bane a lot for them. He should work well off Paolo and Franz, letting Suggs focus more on leading the defense.

On paper looks like a crazy over pay for Bane, but in recent years 3 or 4 1st round picks are now just the norm for trading for 3rd or 4th options for teams.Yes the Gobert & Bridges deals where also over pays but in away worked out as both made conference finals after their trades which prior they hadn't in 20 plus years.

For the Magic they should be in the mix next season along with the Pacers & Knicks as legit contenders out East, but this core is going to have a short window of two seasons or so until Banchero MAX deal kicks in and you'd likely have to move one of your core four just based on the hard cap i.e. Suggs would be the odd man out but likely could with the current market land you multiple 1st round picks as well that in turn helps off set this trade for Bane.

For the Grizziles think it's more TBD in terms of what they are doing. Are they going full rebuild and shipping out Ja and or JJJ ? Or possibly using these picks along with other guys on the roster to trade for and all star caliber player to team up with Ja & JJJ and make a run in the West.

2028-2030 is Orlando’s window. Look at the age of their stars. Masterclass roster building, Bane will be the missing piece to push Orlando into contention with Wagner/Paolo/Suggs

And they said the bridges trade was bad

Bane 19/5/6 on 48/39%

Bridges 18/4/3 on 50/36 and we didn’t even run plays for him and had a godawful offense

4 unprotected 1sts and two solid role players? Okay then

Obviously a great fit next to Franz and Paolo but yeah trades like this for bane and bridges are setting the market up to cost for players around that. I swear like 20 percent of the league will be owning majority of teams picks soon.

I bet they could have used half of these assets to trade for Coby White instead.
