everyone whines about star players not playing defense, too many three point shots not enough midrange- shai is the closest thing in today's nba exemplifying the "golden age" guards of the past and still people need to hate on him. comparing him to james harden in particular is idiotic.

People complain about the foul baiting which happened like three times in the third quarter. Nobody wants to see stuff like that. He’s better than that nonsense.

he's a 90% free throw shooter, like just about every other super star in the nba the last 30 years he should do what he can to get to the line. his free throw rate is not egregious.

Nobody is complaining about that midrange game that Shai went to like half a dozen times tonight. Or the other half dozen drives into a sick layup package. Let's celebrate that, the blocks, and steals, while still being furious about the 3 foul bates!
He does so much to appease everyone looking to celebrate or cry about something. The real MVP

Yeah that was a big game for SGA, probably seals the MVP

That game wraps up the race for me as well. Just a dominant display by SGA in an important head to head matchup. Puts the nuggets 12+ games behind the thunder which is a irrefutable gap for even Jokic's impressive stats to cover

How do you know he's winning if he's not your pick?

Luka has actually taken his team to the Finals. When has Harden ever not shrunk in the post season, let alone make it past the second round?

Re: 2024-25 NBA MVP Discussion Thread (Pt. 3: Son of daughter of MVP thread)
If you want to promote SGA to the MVP you keep talking about team achievements even though the trophy has a history of not needing the #1 or #2 spot. One could still try to maintain a minimum of integrity and admit that the OKC get away with murder on one end called "great physical defense" while SGA on the other end baits and flops like a fish for free throws. Not pleasant and not respectful to the game, even if some guys in here say superstars "have to" do that. Well Jokic doesnt, and earns the league respect i'm sure.
Also whoever watched that game and cant get himself to admit that SGA is being carried by a super talented team taht does not allow for him to be double teamed, while Jokic has to deal with the complete failure called Jamal Murray and the guy who never shows up in the 4th called MPJ is just not willing to have a real discussion.
I repeat. Jokic does a herculean carry job with this denver nuggets team. SGA is basically cruising with a low key superteam on both ends. What do you think would happen if they swapped? SGA would probably still get good numbers (even though he would suddenly be double and triple teamed like Joker) but he is not a floor raiser as Jokic. So who is more valuable of the two?

Harden was an ill-timed CP3 hamstring injury away from very likely winning a Championship and FMVP in 2018.

Just because I view Jokic personally as MVP doesn’t mean I’m not grounded into reality enough to know how the voting will play out.

The defensive attention on Jokic contrasting with the attention on Shai was striking this game.

Shai basically MJ without elite Athletic ability. Also in midrange, attacks the basket like a mad man, low Turnover rate, Efficient, plays defense and can block shots at the guard position.

Funny how in past years all these impact stats were the reason Jokic was the best but now they don't matter when he's not clearly the best
I’ve never had anything against Jokic but yeah.
Shai MVP voters - “he’s leading a team to a historic net rating, team is winning by 18 points when he’s on the floor, advanced stats are 1A or 1B, what an amazing season!”
Jokic MVP voters - “How DARE you suggest ANYONE is even CLOSE to Jokic as a player. The gap between him and everyone else is GIGANTIC. Everyone knows Denver is a G LEAGUE TEAM and Jokic is playing at THE HIGHEST LEVEL BY FAR. He’s OBVIOUSLY the BEST and there’s frankly NO DEBATE”
Hm…
Yeah it’s fine if you think Jokic is having a better year certainly very arguable! But it’s neck and neck between the two, we are witnessing two legendary seasons. If you think either of them has a clear edge you’re being silly. SGA has a clear edge in terms of historical voting standards sure but I’d never be silly enough to say he’s separated himself individually. They’ve been extremely close in impact stats all year it’s quite a historical race.

Even 2 years ago Shai averge 30 before his team got this good has the main offensive force
