Kyrie looks like the X factor for both Luka personal and Mavs as a team achievements. For good or bad.

Kyrie looks great on and off the court in Dallas. He and Luka have great relationships. The only problem was he missing so many games in first half of the season, exactly when half Mavs' roster was injured.

Defensive fit is still not perfect, but Kyrie being used to being a 2nd option doesn't hurt. As for missing games it's more the norm than the exception. Same for a lot of other stars though.

Problem is, it wasn't only Kyrie injured a lot.
Mavs played with 33 starting lineups and the most used Mavs lineup played 112 minutes together. That's not normal.

Roster Mavs are playing at the moment is few levels better than it was in majority of the season. And it shows. They have won last 10 games with Luka playing.
The only bad thing is Luka needing rest desperately, but Mavs just can't afford it at the moment.

They're now putting Luka's picture as #2 even though Shai's numbers are better. The numbers are very close.

Jokic 31/21/22
Luka & Oscar = 5 x 27/8/8
The Brodie = All-out energy

I just perused the clutch time stats at NBA.com. Irving is not only the Mavs' best clutch time closer, he is arguably the most effective clutch time, closer in the NBA, though he probably wouldn't qualify for leader for reason of not playing enough games. The Mavs are 14-3 in clutch time games when Irving plays, while Irving is averaging 3.8 ppg on 77.1 TS%.

Someone asked about the third straw poll.

Last year it came out on March 30, I believe. So my guess is maybe this Monday.

No offense to any Wolves fans on here but I’m glad this place is better than the chatter on Twitter where there are unironic arguments by many that Anthony Edwards is the actual MVP this year. Not in the running or a young guy with a ton of talent who will be in the running in the future, but should win.

I mean honestly I haven't seen anyone notable except for Perkins (who I even doubt is saying Ant should be MVP but just props up Ant) is even talking about it on twitter. Even no Wolves fan I follow on twitter is saying Ant is MVP. But I do think Ant's impact on Wolves is being understated. Not even having Ant here in this list in the 6-10 range is criminal -

He should be in that 6-10 range imo.

OKC nearly beating the red hot Rockets and then demolishing a team that had just beaten the Nuggets without SGA was not on the cards.

Who stepped up to fill SGA's shoes?

Efficient balanced team effort. Cason Wallace stepped up.

But also the schizophrenia of looking at games from one day to another. Not always apples to apples

SGA and Luka kinda nuts here. The 2000s iso players could never.

Edwards should be higher than Sabonis, KD and Booker at the very least. Him and Tatum are close to me.

More dribbles you go, less players you have on the list and eventually only Luka will remain. ;)

This season really feels like a Jokic redemption MVP season. Basically whatever happens Nikola is MVP! Also feels like Luka has somehow become the bad guy with voters fatigue for an award he hasn't won.
- Shai beating Jokic 3 times. NIKOLA MVP!
- Denver goes 11-2 after the all star break. NIKOLA MVP!! Dallas goes 10-1, the only loss to OKC without Luka. MEH...
- Dallas having far more injuries than any other MVP candidate... Poor poor Nikola, had to play without Murray. Luka BALL HOG, doesnt want to pass to his GLeague teammates.
- Look at the standings! the Mavs are a 6th seed, the NUGGETS ARE 3RD!!!! NIKOLA GOAT!
- Jokic plays 2 games with a small wrist injury, Nuggets lost - poor Nikola, he's a true warrior and that's why deserves MVP. Luka plays with achilles soreness, clearly banged up and limping on the court, won both 2 games on the road - LUKA BUM has dropped off, can't even walk normal.

Also the Mavs finally have a lineup that played more than 100 minutes this year. Doncic-Irving-Derrick Jones Jr-PJ Washington-Gafford have played 112 minutes together and have a net rating of 22.6, and a 97,5 defensive rating, pretty good if you ask me. For comparison, the Nuggets starting five is at 895 min, the OKC starting five 770.
If you ask me lineup consistency is a huge factor with on/off numbers, especially with your starting lineups.

And what happened so that Jokic should not be MVP? He has 8 more wins, statistically better season, and is a better player than Luka.
