Brook Lopez is the favourite for DPOY. He is as slow as Jokic, but longer and 5 times the better rim protector when he is being targeted. He has the best help defender at his side to cover for him and the best perimeter defender to fight over the screens when he drops deep. The Bucks are the best defense in the playoffs the last 4 seasons.

And despite all that he is still almost unplayable against specific teams and types of offenses. If he plays against those teams he is targeted relentlessly and the best defense in the nba collapses.

If it's that hard for Lopez and the Bucks imagine how hard it is for Malone and the Nuggets especially since he can't just bench his MVP to fix it.

Joker's defense has definitely plummeted in the last two games. If he would have played defense like that in the whole season, it definitely wouldn't have been smoot sailing for him as far as leading the MVP race. What's weird is that he played an excellent defensive game against Memphis, then two very weird one for him, wonder if maybe he has some kind of physical problem, because that's probably the first two games where he really looked terrible this year on defense.

Which sounds the worst?
A: a 3x consecutive MVP winner who never made to the finals in those three years;
B: a MVP winner whose team won at a higher rate without him (9w-4l; 69%) than with him (34w-18l; 65%);
C: a MVP winner who has already missed unprecedented 14 games when there are still 16 to go. All previous winners in the past 30 years missing no more than 11 games.

B and C are facts and A is what we are worrying about.

It’s not like they came into this season ready to give him a 3rd mvp. The expectations for him winning a 3rd went up. I don’t remember what his odds were to win mvp prior to the season.

I got him preseason at 10:1. I think Luka was the preseason favorite at 6:1.

Lol Zack Lowe going off on the conversation around the MVP race. He doesn’t like what it’s turned into. Starts at 16:40

I love how Lowe mentions defense, and says Jokic is no better than average, but then still doesn't care, even though the other two candidates are defensive stalwarts. Somehow Jokic's offensive stats still trump being amazing on both sides of the court? Just lol...

Can't tell me there's not a media agenda.

In what world at all does this post have to do with MPJ?

Read on Twitter

Average defense with a +19 impact on offense >>> good defense with a +4 impact on offense and that doesn’t even get into all the extra games Joker plays.

Should have a traded a bunch of picks for Gobert and played Jokic at the 4. That’s how you win in the modern NBA.

That same terrible team that has already beat Embiid this season.

Let’s also not act like the 76ers fans wouldn’t be praising the hell out of Embiid if he put up that stat line regardless of the opposition or if it was a loss.

yup, 100%

def (another) bad loss the Nuggets have dropped quite a few to weak teams, especially on the road
they have a tendancy to play down to their opponent

However, when Jokic takes 8 shots he shouldn't be MVP, when he's dominating he shouldn'tbe MVP either
sounds like some folks are just circling their target and then fire their arrows and not the otherway around :)

it's still unforgivable that didn't bring in a couple of good players to give themselves a different look. even if it'd be irrelevant for some matchups as you say - it'd still be relevant for other matchups

they should try playing Bryant and Jokic together, Bryant has been unplayable off the bench anyway
Nnaji is always injured, it's def their worst mistake. they have the assests, they are already committed salary wise to their big 3 - just inexcusabe

Jokic fell all the way to 28:1 about a month into season I believe.

Yeah screw it. Embiid doesn’t deserve it but let’s give racism a chance. Team Perkins!

I was thinking Embiid has overtaken Giannis. But nah. Difference is too big still in record.

Jokic is 43-16
Giannis 39-13
Embiid 35-18

You didn't see Kendrick Perkins' rant that all white MVP winners only got the award because of their skin color? One of the most blatantly racist things said on tv in recent memory.

I doubt this guy's comment was directed at you because as far as I know you just think Embiid is the best player in the league and aren't racially motivated in your choices.
