Trae should be no where on this team.

actually these dinosaurs like steph and lebron shouldnt be on the team

let the young guys shine, players shouldnt have to kiss up to klutch and nike to secure a roster spot

They had a chance last year and failed. Now oldies has a chance...But in reality it isn't 1992 anymore. You must have balanced roster and 12 all-stars aren't working.

C Davis/Bam
PF Tatum/Banchero
SF Brown/Bridges
SG Booker/Edwards
PG Hali/Holiday
+ big 3/D (maybe Turner)
+ guard 3/D (maybe White)

Cs - must be first defence with 20/10
Wings - mix of defence/size/scoring/shooting/rebounding
SG - attack mode, best scorers in NBA
PG - First playmaking guys + scoring or defence

He still believes Trae is a superstar and should be team USA. Whenever NIKE rumors are true and they heavily forcing NIKE athletes, it doesn't matter, the idea of Trae young on team USA sounds a bit ridiculous, the last thing they need are on ball heavy defensive liabilities, like seriously.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't this exactly the reaction that most American posters in this forum had after the US didn't even medal in last year's World Cup? Endless paragraphs were written on this very forum about how the USA doesn't care about the World Cup.

They still don’t. Their Olympics has always been the redemption arc/opportunity after every World Cup failure. If they do manage to win gold in Paris, they are redeemed again and Americans will care even less about the World Cup, where they should send Team B/C again since all is right again.

Right but that doesn't change the fact that it's hypocritical to call out someone for "not caring" about something after busting everyone else's balls about how much you didn't care for the past 12 months

PS: And, obviously, the hypocritical part here doesn't refer to you, durden. You're not the one making that claim.

I could not even comprehend what Edrees was saying, because it sounded like he makes fun of Americans rather, who trully are the only fans in this sport who "don't care" when they lose. I cant believe you can use such point aimed at US opponent in basketball, its not hypocritical even, its just beyond zero self awareness.

Germany looked great to me, they are a real threat

We need Durant back, really hoping he can get healthy. The trio of Lebron/Curry/Durant will be nasty paired with bigs like Davis and Bam. Shame Kawhi was gimpy, add him and it would have been a wrap. Now I think we are looking at a dog fight against a few of these teams.

:jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop:

I'm shocked at how horrible of a take this was. It wasn't just wildly incorrect and ignorant, it was insulting as ****. Also, it's funny that the clown next to him said how he didn't recognize anyone from South Sudan's roster even though JT Thor is a current NBA player and Wenyen Gabriel was a rotation player for LA last season.

These people are simply scum, and the fact people watch them is sad. South Sudan is just the name of a country that sounds funky, a lot of their guys actually have NBA or other high level experience, that team aint even bad, if you just compared South Sudan to Italy or Latvia for example, its not even that much worse.

How is even a take worth a damn that other guy couldnt recognized anyone from opposing team? Does the idiot sound like he would have recognized prime Diamantidis or Papaloukas? I didn't watch the clip, but I wonder? They dont know or care about anything that is not about themselves.

This is second ignorant and racist Paul Pierce take I have heard of posted here, and he is still on TV, its acceptable in that country. First one was about Euros and French...

Group B
France: -200
Germany: +175

Germany bet is good, didnt France lost last 4 games, just friendlies, but still. Add to the fact their meltdown last year, not sure why they are still such favorites.

Also, Brazil has worse chance finishing top in group B, than Puerto Rico in group C, where is the logic there, Spock?

It's not hypocritical if you have evidence to back up your claims. Germany sent their best players to the Olympics, so it's presumable to think they care. There is no evidence that "germany doesn't care".

USA did not send their best players to the FIBA world cup, they did not even send their 20th best team possible, so there's a good argument to be made that the USA doesn't care.

It's not hypocritical to use an evidence based arguement. If my criteria is " teams care if they send their best players, and they dont care if they dont" then it's using a single standard. How is this hypocritical?

If Germany sent their F team to the Olympics and lost, THEN I would say it's hypocritical if Americans to call them out for not caring, because then the situations would be identical.

the situations are not identical in the least.

To make the claim that Americans DO care about the Fiba world cup is denial and you don't even believe that yourself. Just look at the roster they sent compared to the roster they sent to the Olympic and in good faith can you honestly tell yourself they even attempted to win the former?

To make the claim the Germany don't care about the Olympics has no evidence to support it.

Again, I want to stress, nobody claimed that the players on Team USA didn't care during FIBA World Cup. They are saying USA as a whole doesn't care, therefore they did not even send their best players. I am sure, and others are, that the players who showed up, and the coaches who participated, did their best to win each game they played.

In THIS case, people are claiming the German players on the team don't care to win the game or that the coaches did not attempt to gameplan to win the game. That's an entirely different argument.

In last years thread, we discussed Basketball popularity in Germany, and shared this German poll.

Image

Thats what been said, its not about German federation not caring, its about the fact country barely cares about the sport at all, its kind off a stretch to use word care, when the sport is 22nd. place, way behing Triathlon and stuff, so hello, thats what been said.

Basketball in Germany is far less popular than Soccer is in US, far less...

And that country still produce a team that defeats USA, but Americans then have gut saying they are the ones not caring. Hello dude?

Also, just like most contenders, Germans were missing some of their best players, Hartenstein, Da Silva, Kleber, Weiler Babb if I remember missed that tournament, and probably someome else I forgetting.

Every 5 pages theres a new fool reminding how USA didn't send their best players, but according to them, other teams did. Yes, USA's list of missing players is probably the longest, but Lithuania missed like 8 players from A team, Germany at least 4, those countries still beat USA. Top players miss World cup all the time, how we need to remind this every day to new ignoramus? but its really no one elses problem other federations have bigger success at recruiting at least half of their top guys usually. Every federation tries to recruit best posibble team every year, its their job.

The big question pre-opening day is why are the Americans still favored by 15 points despite the recent "struggles" in the friendlies. LOL

So i trust Vegas here and say they are fine and no the panicky American (and critical international) fans. i think they cover easily. Maybe not as easy as the friendly game but that covers is a good lean is my bet for now.

What is their opening game? Betting odds are based on betting public perception, so obviously that people who think sky is falling for the Americans are the monority. Friendlies didnt seem to impact most odds, thats why I find France being such favorite against Germany, a bit strange. Germans can easily finish top in that group, I dont think it would even be surprising, and I know its in Paris, but France are far from lock there.

Of course... Hopefully Euro and Serbian fans back Serbia on opening day (USA -15.5 vs Serbia) so that my (potential, still a lean, might change mind depending on mood gameday. LOL) bet on USA would be easy.

Here's the complete odds for Day 1. Vegas is never perfect obviously and there will be "soft" lines but obviously those odds are still 50-50...

Australia -4.5 vs Spain
Germany -16.5 vs Japan
France -13.5 vs Brazil
Canada -6.5 vs Greece
Puerto Rico -3.5 vs South Sudan
USA -15.5 vs Serbia

KD being injured the entire time, and they still don't wanna replace him. Kawhi was playing well during the scrimmages, and they sent him home lol

B- team talent wise probably, but it was an ill-conceived roster. JJJ was a disaster at C and Kerr wouldn't play Kessler, the only true center on the team. Just absolutely crushed on the boards...

That, I can agree with. You definitely needed more big bodies.

I think Canada covers, not sure USA does. Its first game, Serbia can afford to lose and if USA gets a bigger lead, Serbia could just start resting and looking ahead, but I sm not sure that happens, should be a close game I imagine. Not sure what to root for, usually root against USA, but I am not a fan of current Serbia.

According to team USA, Clippers forced Kawhi to withdraw. But according to the Clippers, they did not. So all the clues lead to the idea we all suspected - Kawhi had no interest to even be there, he took team picture and called it a day. But USA wanted Kawhi, why wouldn't they. He is one of the major stars that would fit in a role, at least in theory.

I don’t know if you had a chance to watch, but if Dennis Schroder didn’t lose his damn mind late in the 4th, Germany wins. Just wasted about 4 of their possessions calling his own number.

Preposterously awful shot selection.

As someone said a few pages back, you’d have thought he was in cahoots with Jontay Porter.

That was me. I thought there was some shenanigans going on but when i watched the replay, i fpund out it was the audience fault.

KD likely out against Serbia according to Windhorst. His return date keeps being pushed back, I'm not feeling optimistic about KD chances to play in the rest of the tournament.

Honestly, replacing KD with Jaylen Brown would help. The 4 Celtics playing together would have chemistry and play defense.
Replace Zinger with AD. Profit.

Brown has shown he’s not afraid to play big under pressure (ECF and Finals MVP).

They won’t though. This is probably some stupid Kerr PR, guilt, and try to ‘make up for it’ / “yeah, we’re all good even though he left!” kind of stance.
