Why don't we see people that tall outside of basketball then? You think every giant plays basketball?

You can see tall people in volleyball, handball...even goalkeepers and some central defenders in football are very tall. Meaning tall people are doing sports, where being tall is advantage. Being tall is of course crucial especially in basketball.

Not all tall people go into sports. A lot of them are clumsy and uncoordinated, and not talented to play. I'ts very rare that football goalkeepers are 6'8'' or taller, even though height is a requirement for that position.

It was a bull call on Giannis for the 5th foul, but he wasn't exactly lighting it up, either. Good to see Satoransky playing well #Bullsintheplayoffs

Well deserved Czech Republic, good to see more countries playing well. Greece doesn't have a balanced roster.

Sure, that’s way 6’8” tall people are playing basketball. But you won’t see very small goalkeeper either. They are all taller than population and that’s not because playing football makes you being taller than normal. ;)

No it isn't. Even in FIBA rules you can't grab the rim, which is what gobert did and why it should have been a violation.

he didn't grab the rim, he played at the ball and made simultaneous contact grazing the rim, so this confirms the sore losing

the spirit of the law is when players touch only the basket or backboard to shake the ball off

Aha. Nothing but sore commenting here...

It means both.. U r not gonna grow from 5'9 to 6'5 if u start playing basketball, but u will gain at least 1-2 inches, and probably 2 or 3

Absolute nonsense. Otherwise we would be seeing millions of 6'5+ Filipino basketball players around but we don't now do we.

No, because there are no millions 6'3+ Phillipinos outthere

Giannis could been ejected earlier also. Pretty 50/50 call gonne his way in 3QT on offensive faul.

Their squad is pretty bad.. and Giannis has too many weaknesses to carry a team on his own. I don't understand how people thought they were the greatest threat to the US. :o

Tall people have a huge advantage in sports so they are more likely to pursue it from an early age. Its much easier to become a pro when you are 7ft tall than if you are 6ft2 in sports where height is an advantage.

You see giant people in handball and voleyball quite regularly so its not only in basketball. The theory that playing basketball somehow makes you taller is laughable.

Yeah, I never understood that either. Even the bookies have made them the second biggest threat to USA behind Serbia. They have some good players, but bad fit, and Giannis just isn't that scary in this type of competition.

They didn't. This very thread has a poll that's asking this exact question and Serbia won by a landslide. 54% of the people that voted (202 votes) said that Serbia is the biggest threat to the US. Australia was second with 42 votes, Spain was third with 39 votes and then France and Greece were tied for 4th with 26 votes.

We didn't deserve to advance based on our overall performance, Czech was a more balanced team overall. Today our players gave it all, but we missed too many FTs, we had no help from our HC as usual and we lost Giannis for large parts of the game because of a couple of bollock balls.
