Re: 2018/19 ROY/Rookie Discussion Thread
Collin Sexton with another great game as Cavs beat Houston. I'm not saying he's ahead of Doncic or anything but Sexton has to be in the top 4 on the rookie list. He's been unguardable the last 2 nights.

Doncic is the 2nd player in NBA history with 325+pt, 115+rb and 70+ast through first 17 games (1st Oscar).

Was really sad at what happened to him on draft night with Philly moving him from his hometown team, but seems he's found a good fit for him individually.Young gun 6 wrote:gaspar wrote:

Re: 2018/19 ROY/Rookie Discussion Thread
This draft looks like it has one of the deepest lotteries ever. It might not end up having the top level talent of 84 and 03, but I could see it producing more multiple-time all stars. E.g., Lottery player X could end up being a multiple all star and not even be considered a top 5 player in this draft.
It's crazy to think that the lottery already looks ridiculous, meanwhile a consensus top 3 pick prior to the draft in MPJ hasn't even stepped on the court yet.

His shot is really improved from last year. In RM he missed most of those step back 3s, which lowered his overall percentages and led many people to think he is not a good shooter.

No he didn’t. The difference is that more or less all his shots in Europe were pull ups and step backs and half of them in last seconds of possession. And he had 1 impossible half court attempt per game. The problem with his shooting was invented by people, who have never watched him played full games and just saw stats. Other difference was D. and pressure on him. In Europe every game was like playing playoffs in Nba. Many like finals.

Re: Ayton who?
No need to hate on one to prop up the other.
Luka's in a better situation overall right now. He has more veterans on the team, an established coach and an already strong scheme in place. Ayton is playing for a rookie HC who's still trying to get his scheme down, no PG to consistently get him the ball and a bunch of young players still trying to establish themselves.

Not hating at all I like Ayton and I think he deserved number one overall pick, but geez Louise Luka is 19 and his understanding of the game is like 6+ year vet. I really hope they build around him I’m not a fan of DSJ

This is one ridiculous pass and assist by Doncic.
Everything Doncic does now is magic. Also probably there is a new statistical category because of him - a pass, which is not the same as assist.

Forgot to quote you lol. I agree with your assessment of their situation though

We should have new statistical category for Ayton too. Hides in D. Double digits in every game.

The games I watched in EL he missed quite a few of those step backs. It was a common discussion on message boards too. In NBA games I have watched he has done better. I agree about the defense played on him though.

Eh, you couldn't resist such opportunity to bash Ayton, did you ?
It's funny to attack the defense of another player when defending Luka.
While I have already stated I like Doncic, the media hype is unreal. And I was just making fun of the 'pass and assist' part in above post.

Let’s see about media hype, if Dallas makes a run for the playoffs.

All that is true, but most 5s in the league impart their impact mostly on defense. Not only is Ayton not an impact defender, but worse he’s a poor defender who’s a negative on that end, just like the criticisms of him in college said he would be. That’s not mostly scheme—Ayton just doesn’t have good defensive instincts nor motor.
He does a poor job of making rotations, isn’t a deterrent at the rim at all (opponents are shooting 5% BETTER from under 6 ft against him than against the rest of the league, and so on. Almost ALL impact defenders at the 5 were impact defenders right away. A 5 in today’s game isn’t going to have a high ceiling as far as offensive impact goes unless he can create for others like Jokic, and I don’t see Ayton doing that. Ayton has done well offensively and the suns are much better offensively with him on court, but there’s a very low ceiling for offensive impact as far as bigs go.
Meanwhile, Doncic is doing what he was supposed to do though he hasn’t gotten to run the entire offense. He’s shooting better than people expected. He’s right on track to be the offense creating wing that many thought he could be. Meanwhile, Ayton is so far has been the motor lacking, non-defensive presence many thought he could be.
