I hope this happens; the league would be better for this happening.

Just a thought...

Trades of...

Trade 1:
Orlando Trades
Vince Carter
Michael Pietrus
Marcin Gortat
Rights to Fran Vazquez
2011 Unprotected First Round Pick

New Orleans Trades:
Chris Paul
Emeka Okafor
2010 Second Round Pick

Trade 2
Orlando Trades
6.3 Million Dollar Trade Exception

New Orleans Trades
James Posey

New Orleans would have about 24 Million coming in and 33 Million going out...saving 9 million this year alone.

Next summer, VC's 18 million comes off the books. Peaches could be looking for a new contract and opt out.

There is another 23.3 million in savings.

So the trade could potentially save the Hornets 32.3 million dollars instead of spending an extra 33 million in paying Paul, Okafor, and Posey.

That is a 65 million dollar swing.

What team can offer better?

You're just sour because we're talking about your star leaving. Don't worry, it happens. After two or three, you just get used to it...

See, I never felt that, because we never had stars here. Ricky Williams, Deuce McCallister... then Drew BRees, and he's still here.

Baron Davis quit, and as a result got us Chris Paul. I can't cope.

Lol, not happening anyway.

If Chris Paul went to Orlando, Dwight Howard would have a career year. Not to mention, any defensive liability Chris Paul might be would be covered up with Orlando's excellent team defense. Contenders for sure.

Though, on another thought. I think the Magic would need to get a new, less conservative coach, because this team would flourish as a high paced team.

You realize Chris Paul was NBA All-Defensive 1st Team this time last year right?

You know why this trade makes no sense? Because New Orleans would STILL be on the hook for 17 million dollars to VC, AND have to pay Jameer Nelson for the next 3 years for an average point guard that would steal minutes from Collison.

Every team with capspace this offseason would gladly trade that capspace, putting New Orleans on the hook for 0 dollars, to get Paul, unless they have a shot at LeBron.

So yeah, this is a nice rumor and fun to think about from the super team angle, but totally unrealistic.

If the argument is Orlando has the assets, no, they clearly don't. Many teams have superior assets.

If the argument is Orlando saves them more money, no, they don't. They can trade Paul for NOTHING and owe NOTHING, not to mention that Dampier contract that is unguaranteed.

I know, it's your first star. It's OK. It's like Toronto. They just leave. Even non-stars, really. Damon Stoudamire, Marcus Camby, Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter... Mike James, Rafer Alston... and now, probably Bosh too.

You just get used to it, man.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa...

We're not the Cavs.

I know that... but you don't have enough to get Paul either. People are saying that the Hornets want to save money while get decent talent in return. What can the Magic possibly offer outside of Dwight to come up with the best offer out there for Paul? I just don't see it.

Great contribution to the topic.

Care to expand?

What team can offer more relief+talent?

Also, just because I throw it out there doesn't mean I even think there is a .0001% chance of it happening...because it won't. Just throwin out the option that is there to the supposed rumor.

+1

Only way it happens is if there is a 3 way deal. Not happening between 2 teams. Pointless.

I'm a Magic fan, and would do almost anything to get Paul in Orlando, but in the end it's just wishful thinking. Paul isn't coming to Orlando, and most likely Paul isn't going anywhere. He loves New Orleans, and New Orleans loves him. After everything that happened with Hurricane Katrina, Paul became somewhat of a savior for the franchise as well as its city. Those kinds of players you don't see going anywhere, especially since the Hornets IIRC now have a billionaire owner who's willing to spend to build a contender.

We have some pieces that might be good for trade bait, like Vince's near-expiring, but why would the Hornets trade for VC when they can trade Paul for an even better expiring piece such as the DUST chip?

But man... just imagine, Chris Paul throwing perfect lobs for Dwight Howard alley-oops, and Paul gambling for steals as much as possible because he knows there's the DPOY who's got his back. That would be unfair for the rest of the league.

That is a disgusting deal for New Orleans. Would go down as the worst trade in NBA history.
