Its not a horrible deal, but the thing is the Knicks can afford to wait.

Melo wants to be a Knick, just wait another season. The Knicks wont have to gut all their assets in the process.

Everyone knows Melo wants to be a Knick, and every one knows he wants to get paid the full amount. Do you guys think Melo would be pissed at the Knicks for NOT trading for him when there was an offer on the table from the Nuggets?

The Knicks will just wait and sign Melo as a free agent. That's where he wants to play. Why give value for him, especially when you have not even started discussions on a long term extension?

And other teams will shy away for feat that Melo won't want to commit to them long-term.

Once again, the Nuggets have completely botched the negotiations, first by turning down the Nets offer and then by demanding way too much from the Knicks. It's laughable, really.

Very bad deal for the Knicks, IMO.

Chauncey looks like he wants to stay in Denver, so he'd likely void his deal this offseason and go back with a new contract.

That means the Knicks give away: Gallo/Felton/Landry or Chandler/Draft Picks/Expiring Contracr
for 25 games of Melo and Chauncey. Weak.

If I'm NY I stick to Eddy Curry/Gallo/filler for Melo. That's more than fair for Denver and is realistic in terms of the fact that Carmelo is going to be in NY next year regardless of what the Nuggs do with him this year.

Why would the knicks pull the trigger on this, and give up Gallo when they are going to get Melo via free agency anway? Although Chauncey sweetens the deal the Knicks have never shown interest in him anyway. They’ll very likely get Melo in free agency and maybe have a shot at Chris Paul.

Some of the recent rumors and comments from melo, sure make it sound like he is not happy that the Knicks do not think him getting an extension is a big deal. Truthfully I am not so sure this does not back fire on the Knicks.

Once again
THE KNICKS DONT HAVE THE CAP SPACE FOR MELO!!

To get the capspace they need to trade Randolph (okay, plausible) and renounce the rights to Chandler....and then MAYBE they will have max capspace. But then Melo still loses millions for not signing with the team with his bird rights. And at that point, who knows what happens. Maybe the Nuggets strike a deal with the Laker or Bulls for a sign and trade and Melo cant turn down the opportunity for more money and a better chance at a championship.

And if the Nuggets bring it down to the last minute, the Knicks would risk losing both Randolph and Chandler for nothing in the offseason in order to create the capspace for Melo.

Who said that they would have settled for only Bynum? The rumor I heard was that Bynum was the key piece, and he is more valuable then any 2 of the pieces they would get back from New York.

The center that plays 40 games every year? I don't think we're on the same page here.

Felton is a deal breaker.

Losing Randolph and Chandler is better than losing Felton (our starting PG) , Gallinari, picks, etc.

I would do Randolph and Chandler for Melo right now. It would essentially be a trade.

The Knicks could even trade Randolph and Chandler for picks and that would just solve everything.

Yeah I saw that. Thats why I say they probably should have done it.

I dont see any other option that doesnt have the Knicks sort of gutted next year to accommodate Melo.

What they want to happen is Gallo, Melo, Amare, Felton, Fields, scraps, but I really dont see it happening.

Even if they do, they would be completely tapped out in terms of flexibility.

You forgot Turiaf who has to be gone as well.

AN Injury prone young big man is much better value then a SF with a horrible ankle injury, or a poor mans peja with a bad back. Especially when that young big man is capable of being dominant, and the Nuggets need more bigs.

Denver still trying to get Noah I see (as they are focusing on Chicago and NY on a trade). Must give it to them they are consistent and are not wavering on their demands.

LOL Bynum had one 82 game season. The rest: 46, 35, 50, 65. And only 31 games so far this year. With that contract of his, good luck getting Bynum to play healthy in one season.

The poor man's Peja with a bad back played 81 games last year and 47 so far this season.

People are still hung up on Bynum's potential. I don't see the dude ever being healthy at all throughout a season. You're just a hater.

They can work a sign & trade built around draft picks, like the Cavs did with Lebron and the Raptors with Bosh.
