Eh it's funny that people are hating on Blake just because he's on the Lakers. The truth of the matter is that Blake came correct and Gilchrist got what was coming to him.

Dude really came off as a fool with his backpedaling. If you're going to turn tail and run then don't start something in the first place.

Who says Gilchrist was starting anything? Didn't look that way to me. Blake looked foolish, you don't punch a guy like because of a game. Cheap shot at a 18 year old, nice.

This happened in 2002, Blake was also 18 years old. Anyway, it's impossible to know why this happened, but Gilchrist message where he apologizes, suggests to me that he did something too... If he didn't do anything, only defend himself, why apologize? Who knows, maybe they always hated each other for reasons. Still, you shouldn't punch a teammate at any circumstances, well, unless he hits on your women, that's probably a must one.

To be humble. I honestly don't see where Gilchrist was at fault here. Other than that he shouldn't have exchanged blows after Blake sucker punched him here, but it was Blake that escalated matters when it shouldn't have gotten that far.

pretty ridiculous that no one is even mentioning that this clip was obviously edited at the :25 mark, so we don't know what actually happened beforehand or who was at fault.

...Are we really about to make an issue outta something that happened damn near 10 years ago? They got into a little scuffle....Blake lost his temper, Gilchrist was just trying to defend himself. I'm sure they patched it up after practice 10 YEARS AGO.

Though it was funny Blake never made contact....

*After watching the video again...Gilchrist caught Blake GOOD with that jab

I dont know if you are watching the same fight i did.....but only One person landed a clean hit.....and it wasnt Steve Blake.

As Someone mentioned above...they both got 10x tougher when they had teamates in between them.

But again this was what???? 9 years ago.

i doubt Steve Blake was 18 in 2002. Im pretty sure he was a senior on Maryland's national title team which would put him at least 21 or 22 years old.

Actually the lead up to the fight probably wasn't recorded in the video. There must be some kind of animosity or background to this because there's barely any contact for Blake to react the way he did in that video.

Yeah, we don't know if Gilchrist got a few cheap shots in there during the scrimmage. Anyway, nothing to see here.

Seeing those other videos of Blake getting into fights off of miniscule contact exchanges, him starting a fight off of that one thing would be consistent with his character.

Just speaking on the Mavericks fight Blake had...that wasn't miniscule contact. JET pushed the hell out of him. I'd of gotten up in his face after that as well. You can't let people just throw you around like a lil bitch.

Blake really comes off as a punk back then. Got this "how dare this freshman play physical with me, I'm the star of Maryland" attitude. The audio indicates if anything Blake was fouling Gilchrist throughout the game. Blake clearly thought he was some tough guy, turning around and swinging immediately...such a cheap shot. Gilchrist somehow dodges it, without realistically being able to expect that kind of instant reaction at all, and then proceeds to let Blake think hes some hot shot boxer throwing wild punches while coming at Gilchrist. Gilchrist plays it smart, letting Blake be the aggressor and gives him a nice right to the chin that buckles Blake good considering how casually Gilchrist threw it.

You can then see Gilchrist at the end when both are being held back, after some of the expected trash talking, holding his hands up saying something like "steve what are you doing man wtf was that all about be reasonable."

After watching the video I then see a different more recent video with Blake saying he trains in MMA. I get the feeling that altercations like these with similar results weren't uncommon for Blake in his younger days.

I just lost respect for Blake after this. I can't believe he turned around and punched the guy in the face.

I enjoy basketball fight videos like these, no matter how weak they are.

I'm pretty sure this happened recently not 2002. Gilchrist is like, what, 18/19 years old right now? That would make him 9/10 years old if it was 2002.

It's a contact sport, obviously there will be some pushing and bodying. Sheesh.

Blake caught Gilchrist clean with the first punch. Just listen to the audio. He definitely caught him. Gilchrist dodged everything after that though as well as landing a clean shot of his own.

It's John Gilchrist, not Michael Gilchrist.
John Gilchrist was supposed to be the second coming of Steve Francis for Maryland, which he was in some aspects. he was a very talented headcase that didnt amount to anything.
