LeBron deserved it, I could have seen Melo getting it, but watching both teams LeBron did way more for his team.

I forgot how good melo was as a rookie. A shame he never really improved to became anything more than a second tier star.

Brand/Francis
Kidd/Hill

should've been Melo/Lebron

Can it be noted that the Nuggets only added Andre Miller. Unless you want to count Camby getting more burn and Nene improving as "adding people to the roster". Vashon Leonard could have easily been replaced.

Lebron imo, had a better supporting cast with Boozer and Big Z. McInnis distributed just as much as Miller. Only thing Melo had was a coach.

7 more wins in a tougher conference, including winning both h2h matchups against Cleveland is pretty darn good. Melo had a lot of nights where he could have went for 40 as well.

What does it matter. ROY equals media, and media favors statlines. Lebrons assist number gave him the edge.

lebron has had the better career overall, but Melo deserved the award, and it was as clear then as it is now.

Unlike MvP. Roy doesn't care about team success.

Of course he did, just like Kevin Durant deserved to win. It would have been a joke if Al Horf won it over Durant given how their careers have turned out.

No, it should have been Melo.

Lebron has been better every year since, though.

I agree with this. They had virtually the same PPG numbers and while Melo's team did better Lebron had less talent. Lebron put up 5 assists against Melo's near half that number. Just for the sake of comparison...

Andre Miller
Jon Barry
Melo
Nene
Camby

VS

Jeff Mcginnis
Lebron
Eric Williams/ Newable/ Ricky Davis/ Darius Miles
Boozer
Llgauskas

Jeff Mcginnis was a terrible PG, the SF situation (Lebron played SG as a rookie if I'm not mistaken) was pretty inconsistent, and Boozer was just becoming himself. Denver was a more cohesive unit that fit well together whereas Cleveland had 2 big holes in its lineup at PG and SF (I mention SF b/c they wound up trading Davis and Miles and had to start a bunch of misfits there).

No, and we can stop talking about this. If melo was deservedly better, then he would've gotten the award

Funny enough, some other rookie took over as the best by the end of the season... LeBron deserved the ROY though.

Not a too shabby top 3 rooks for this year ;

LeBron 39,5 mpg 20,9 ppg 5,9 rpg 5,5 apg 1,6 spg 0,7 bpg 41,7 % fg 29,0 % 3pt 75,4 % ft

Melo 36,5 mpg 21.0 ppg 6,1 rpg 2,8 apg 1,2 spg 0,5 bpg 42,6 % fg 32,2 % 3pt 77,7 % ft

Wade 34,9 mpg 16,2 ppg 4 rpg 4,5 apg 1,4 spg 0,6 bpg 46,5 % fg 30,2 % 3pt 74,7 % ft

Playoffs ;

LeBron N/A

Melo 4 games 35,8 mpg 15 ppg 8,3 rpg 2,8 apg 1,2 spg 0 bpg 32,8 % fg 18,2 % 3pt 80 % ft

Wade 13 games 39,2 mpg 18 ppg 4 rpg 5,6 apg 1,3 spg 0,3 bpg 45,5 % fg 37,5 % 3pt 78,7 % ft + 1 gamewinner!

At no point was Wade the best rookie, don't try to lump him with Bron or Melo because he doesn't belong

Melo seemed more "shrewd" than LeBron, like he was more ready to lead a team. LeBron improved quicker as their careers went on but Melo always seemed more NBA savy in their rookie years.

To Melo's credit his team has never missed the playoffs.

And again, what arguments do you have against this? He clearly took another step by the end of the season, he was more NBA ready (older) than them and it showed in the playoffs. And guess what, he became a superstar the next year as well.. he clearly belongs, go lump your CP3 face off somewhere else.

Yeah, you can say he was closer to his ceiling already. LeBron was just getting warm...

The year before I remember Amare Stoudemire winning ROY and a main reason was that he helped get his team into the playoffs.

Melo deserved it more for sure...
Go Knicks!
